There is a name for an actual unicorn horned donkey, but I forget the name. Medieval unicorns were often depicted though as donkeys, horse/deer or goats. I loathe the modern ‘horned horse’.
Did you see the mother unicorn that was on eBay? So pretty! Painted like a wild burro. I hope to see more in the future.
Every time I go through this thread, I think of a book I read growing up, “Brighty of the Grand Canyon.” Loved that book.
I’d never heard of the book. So I looked it up and happened to find that a movie was made from it. How neat is that!?

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameTo be honest, after drilling a broken tang out of a male unicorn’s forehead…I suggest flat back gems too. The gypsum can be unpredictable and once it starts to crumble it gets dicey. Small flat backs should work alright. I’ve only used the point backs in the nooks and crannies that already exist in a sculpt.
But, if you’re determined in what you want to do don’t let fear get in the way. Mistakes happen and if we sound worry warty, its because we all just want your project to turn out as best it can for you! Good luck! I’m sure it’ll be awesome!

If you don’t have a ready supply of point back gems (rather than flat back) in the right size I suggest an etsy seller known as MoonSpheres. Very friendly and has a wonderful assortment of colors and sizes available. If you plan on making indentations for the stones a point back might fit more securely than a flat back.
Also, for art projects you could always host your pictures on deviantART. Accounts are free to make and that’s where I host my pictures before I share them here.

The VF lap dragon I consider my Male’s mom and the Old Warrior is my mother dragon’s granddad. May seem bit silly but I love it regardless!

I wish Windstone could more easily acquire that paint! Did they ever make a sparkle lady cat? If so, you need it to round out that odd number. 🙂

And I don’t think I’ve seen any Keepers that anyone else has tried that with either. Where are you planning on adding the jewels? In between scales, on top of scales, on wings? It sounds like a neat idea. Would love to see photos after you’re done!
Edit: Also, starting out on minis and then moving on to one of these guys? I’m really interested to see your Keeper! When I changed how I painted these guys I went off of miniature painting guides…so my curiosity level is maxed out now!
