That blue jay inspired baby uni? Awesomesauce! Nice choice of canvas Gina!

Yes! A lot of the time, I could care less for the baby uni’s. But this one, I tip my hat to. It’s patterning is great! I really like the placement of all the black markings. They form a nice delineation between the blue (very nice shade of blue I might add) and white. The spotting is just really appealing! Kudos Gina! 🙂

It’s very frustrating! I think some parents (not all because there are some parents out there that are just amazingly supportive) just don’t want to acknowledge that you’re an adult and maybe, just maybe you might know what you’re talking about in certain areas. They’re always going to see you as that little kid that doesn’t have a clue what they’re doing and are only playing pretend. -sighs- Sometimes I feel like my dad doesn’t approve of anything I do unless it’s something that makes money. Especially my painting and drawing. I always feel like what I do is so worthless.

It is! I understand that we are their little girl I their eyes but they also should understand we are grown up and we would also to be seen as adults and give us appraisal too! I also feel worthless, but then jut my chin up and say, “Hey I’m happy with I do and that’s all that matters, wether they approve or not!”

Very true! I am happy with what I do as well and even if my dad doesn’t support my interests it doesn’t mean I’ll stop or that they’re worthless or that I love him any less for that matter. I just have to come to terms with that and move on. It’s just difficult sometimes and it helps to be able to vent every once in awhile. 🙂 Thanks so much for listening and chatting too. It really helps.

Dunno if this is a whine or a complaint. Ever get that moment where someone asks you to paint something for them and then in almost the same breath says something extremely unflattering about your work (and I don’t mean unflattering as in criticism, constructive or otherwise)? Ever had that person be your dad? -raises hand- Yup, that’s me.

I really like how the head is turning out! And the choice of eyes is quite nice. Are you planning on covering up the pumpkin stem with sculpey too? If not I worry about it burning in the oven when you bake it. ^_^; Sorry for being a worry wart, I just wanted to make sure you’d be alright.

Edit: On smoothing sculpey. If what you want to do is get rid of fingerprints in the clay try using a paint brush (or fingers) dipped in 90% rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol has the effect of gently dissolving sculpey so its really useful for smoothing unwanted textures. Just take it easy with its application and be sure the alcohol dries thoroughly before baking. If you just want to get rid of bumps and unusual shapes, be patient and use your fingers (if you haven’t baked it yet!). If you’ve already baked it, use sandpaper.

                  Also, good luck! 🙂

I love hummus! Although, I only like plain or the garlic flavor. Every time I’ve tried a flavored one, I ended up not liking it. I don’t really favor a particular brand. Never tried to make my own, but maybe this thread will inspire me to try.

I have to agree on the plain or garlic flavor. Those are the best. Have you ever tried a little paprika sprinkled on top of the hummus before you begin dipping? I find that’s a nice accent.

The male dragon looks good in Oil Spot, but I’m not sure how I feel about the griffin. He looks a little too much like army camo to me. But I hope they both go somewhere nice!

Oh man, finding this old thread was difficult. It’s been a year and 10 days since I completed my last PYO.

This is an almost complete Sooty/Smutty Buckskin PYO Unicorn. The horn fell out, but that only made it easier to paint. Haven’t decided quite yet what color that will be… gold, copper, bronze ? Anyways, this paintjob started as an experiment with a new dappling technique. I won’t say it was an epic failure (that’s probably too hyperbolic), but it was definitely a mega HUGE failure. But I couldn’t scrap it, and basically have repainted most of it, covering the majority of the dapples. Still, I found myself loving his new paint job. Its very rich looking in person, and for some reason, my camera/lighting makes his undercoat look orangish, but it definitely isn’t.

This guy is exceptionally handsome. I really love the rich chocolatey browns (which to be honest, are some of my favorite horse colors). If I may say, I think an old gold or antique copper would be a lovely accent to him. Bronze is a good color, but perhaps it would be too dull for this guy? Anyways, beautiful job on him! I can’t tell he was salvaged from another paint scheme at all!

I’m sorry for your loss Kim. It is always painful to lose someone you care about. And it was good that you were able to be with her at the end. I’m sure it made things easier for her and at least she’s at peace now.

The first memorable art lesson I learned all on my own was…that a horses’ body shape looks kind of like a peanut with it’s shell. At 7-8 yrs it was a profound revelation for me. I don’t have any of my earliest artwork, but I think my mom has some of it though! 🙂

Horse’s backs look like canned pears. The rear end . From the top.

SO TRUE! The peanut with shell is only noticeable in the profile view of a horse’s body. I had thought poads looked like pears from above, but on reflection I think they look more like mangoes. 😉
