The name for the new dagon color,”Hybrid Emerald Peacock”, is too long. It doesn’t fit on lables, or the order sheets, or in the computer.
I’ve been asking around for ideas of names for the color, but we haven’t come up with anything really perfect for it. I would like a mineral, or something natural that is more descriptive of the green purple and blue colors…but short.
I came up with “Scarab”. Those are beautiful beetles that come in amazing metallic colors. Makes me think of dark cool colors, and symbols of ancient Egypt. I love scarab beetles, but do you just think- “yuck, bugs!!” when you hear that word?
We’ll probably end up with calling them “Hybrid”, but I don’t like that name very much..
        Tourmaline? Aquamarine? Abalonie?Neptune? spodimite?
Maybe these should be called “Green Flash”. Sounds like a comic book character.

I hadn’t though about that! Most likely, we won’t. We are trying to keep the variety of items we have to inventory under control! We are out of space to store them.

The Spectral eyes are the smallest size we can get, so I can’t make the heads of Spectrals any smaller than they are.
..and a slightly different topic: I was toying with the idea of re-doing the two spectrals with normal eyes.. that would mean re-sculpting the eyesockets a little.. any thoughts on that?

Any votive holder that fits will work. They are common items. Just go to a candle shop or craft place that carries stuff like that. Thrift shops are my favorite. Or, if all else fails, pester Karen for one.

email Karen, karen@windstoneeditions.com We must have more of those. Or just go to a thrift shop and find something similar to use. Did you use a candle that didn’t have a metal thing under the wick? That might cause the candle to burn down and not go out before it gets the glass too hot.
Be sure to have the candle lamp on a level surface too, so the flame doesn’t get too close to one side of the glass.

Hello! I’d like to ask if you have plans for ever doing any more dinosaur sculptures, Melody. With all of the feathered, big-eyed birdcritters they’ve been finding lately, I can’t help but think what an adorable personality you’d give them in sculpted form. I’ve also gotta say that the little ‘grin’ on your hatching T. rex’s face is too cute! Thanks for producing your original lineup of them! It’s hard to find dinos to decorate my shelf that aren’t made in China and of cheap vacu-formed plastic 🙂

Oh they aren’t all cheap plastic, I’ve seen some that are just beautiful!
No, I’m not doing any more dinos.
                  (A sabertooth is a dino?)
I’ve done lots of sketches for a sabertooth sculpture.. never got around to it, as usual. I would like to sculpt one with its mouth shut for once.
I would love to sculpt the archyopteyx (however you spell it; that bird-like thing, I LOVE those!), but the whole dino line sort of fizzled. We didn’t really sell that many of the normal dinos, just the hatchers.
                  A hatching sabertooth? hmmm..

Yes! Well, I have done sketches of such a candle lamp anyway, but never got around to sculpting it.
I always seem to say that, but really, it’s true! I have notebooks packed with sketches of ideas I’ve never gotten around to.
The dragon cave was the first candlelamp I designed, LONG before we started doing candle lamps. It was to be like the Wizard’s Retreat candle lamp, with the dragon lit by a candle from inside a castle next to it. I wanted to use fiber optics to light the dragon’s eyes.
It was a little too ambitious.

I just want to ask what your plans are for them on ebay…are you going to do the first ten like you’ve been doing with the golds, or are you going to be putting up limited editions or one of a kinds?? I ask this because I want to know whether to save my monies – griffins are my absolute FAVORITE and I don’t want to miss out on any special ones…I’ve been waiting for the rest of this family since I got my old tan male years and years and years ago. ^_^

My master plan is to offer the Fem. and chicks on ebay as limited production, in the retired or limited production colors. That means: Brown, black peacock, albino and pearl.. then we will auction the first ten of each in the new colors, what ever they are.. That is alot of griffins.. which color do you want first??

ok seeing that means I will just have to get new colors…..cause I’ll never afford limited production in the old colors….unless they are BIN Yeah , they will be bin. The new colors will be auctioned.

The reason I ask is that on Astral Castle it was showing that the Sea Jewel Mermaid was retired, but I hadn’t seen any posts about it. If this is true does it also mean that the Sea Fire Sconce will also retire? Sorry to bug.

Yeah , we retired them the way we do things: One day we realized we had sold out of them, and decided not to paint more. This is why we sometimes don’t manage to save samples for ourselves! I don’t know about the Sconce, you gotta ask Karen.

THIRTY FISHTANKS???? 😯 😯 You musta been rich.
How big were these tanks? I can’t immagine any room holding thirty! And the cost of filters… The cost of medicines.. And all that time cleaning… Fish are messy pets! I have two tanks, a 20 gal and a 50 gal. They give me several hours of work each week. I collect native Missouri fish. It’s fun, but they have to stay out in the shed. They get water everywhere, and the filters and glass need cleaning A LOT. Every time we have a power outage, I have to stay up all night and day replacing the water about every three hours to keep my babies alive. Dumb things get sick from everything too so I have to bust my account trying to afford meds. Thirty fishtanks.. That’s got to be a misspelling!

No, not rich, or exaggerating.I was a kid! People often gave me their old fistanks. I trash-picked them and bought them at yardsales. I spent my allowance on silicone goop to repair them. I had a couple really big air pumps that ran the whole thing with yards of tubing and valves in my ten by twelve foot bedroom. I was a master at balancing airflow. We kept our house pretty warm, so most of the tanks didn’t need heaters.
Other kids my age thought about sex and drugs. I thought about guppies.
I would buy just one pair of fish, of a type I wanted, and breed them! I bred all the easy egglaying ones ; barbs, danios, cichlids, gouramis, panchax( related to killifish <3), bettas and of course, all the live bearers like platys.
I think that tropical fish aren’t as messy and demanding as wild fish, or I couldn’t of managed that much water!!
I had some large goldfish , they were a real mess.

Is there not going to be a way to somehow recreate the master then? I mean… they’ve got to have lots of winged wolves hanging about. The Master itself is cast in the first place, isn’t it? The Master of the Lion Kirin was the greatest loss because it had a lot of work on it that was not backed up by the previous master it was cast off of. I had been working on that guy for years on and off.. I have the previous master that is the same sculpture, but lacks all the feather detail in the wings, and the details in the face and mane. I have photos of the stolen one on the Elfwood gallery, and I can carve him over again, to look pretty close to the original I think. But all that work lost… argh.
The large wolf has not been a lucky sculpture either..but I had less wolk into that one, fortunately.
I brought those sculptures with me to work on, but now, since my sculpting tools were taken, as well as my comic I was planning to work on, I am having a nice forced vacation!!

The large Winged wolf master(unfinished), the lion Kirin and a nice finished, painted Poad were what was taken, in addition to Chessie’s sketchbook and about five of my sketchbooks (which were mostly full of copies of art work , not originals). JUST IN CASE any one runs across a poad somewhere, that is the only one out in the world rright now. These were taken in Stockton, Ca.
