LOL! I have spent too much on new paint! I cant switch to pastels, yet, though it sounds like alot of fun! Nudist colony π I call mine “Naked.” π
Sure you could… just keep using the acrylics on them too. π I use acrylics to “base coat” the critter before I actually use the pastels.
See the lighter… “almond” color on the wolf? that’s acrylics base coat. π gives me a starting point other than WHITE. ^.^
And pastels are cheep! π one set of them… maybe… $5-$10… will last a good long while. π I’ve been doing this for years… and I think I’ve only actually bought two things of pastels? and that’s horses AND now PYOs. π though you use a lot… it still not that much when they are crushed. ^.^
skigod377 wrote:I thought about it, but I have $240 of unpainted stuff sitting around! π
Alright you know what… don’t EVEN go there! π
Lookit my Nudist colony…
Do you want to know how much $$ I have in Nudist horses right now!? and those are MINE! not the shelf of stuff I’m painting for other people! π
The large bugger just to the right of the pink one… is worth nearly $400 alone…
AND I have a Unicorn… a future pegasus… and a couple of others on anotehr shelf! π
So yeah… I’ll NEVER get to them all. at least not for a loooooooooong time.
Add to that the PYOs that are slowly collecting… π― MAN I need to get cracking!
skigod377 wrote:This and the grey wolf you did are what I strive for. They are both beautiful. How long have you been painting?
Thank you Ski. π I’m really glad you like them!
I’ve been painting model horses since… 2002? I think… no I’ve been painting them in PASTELS since 2002 or 2003… but painting model horses period since 1999. ^.^ I started out in acrylics.
MAN I wish my old website wasn’t defunct! I have some seriously OLD horses there. ::grumbles::
But I’ve only really started getting the feeling that I’m GETTING pastels and how to work with them in the last year or so. π
Don’t worry Ski! I will do s tutorial on pastels! just need to start a new Wolf! π
skigod377 wrote:I will never paint again. That is too lovely.
Oh no no no no no! π
Don’t stop painting because of me! YEESH!!!
Seriously! I’m not that good… π
Once again… totally crappy pics. ::grumbles:: I have GOT to get myself a photo cube and MORE room to photograph! π
Anywho… here is the brown wolf… all done and ready for ebay (or offers! :D)
And… an attempt to get the interference colors to show up on her wings… π you can kinda see it..
I’m actually really fond of her… π I hope that the next hazel eyes wolf I paint (an xmas present from my mom…) turns out as nice as she did! π definately liking the interference green with the bronze color π
And… as I said… she’ll be up on ebay tomorrow… OR… if you really like her… PM me with an offer. π
I LOVE it Cheryl! Very nice!
I especially love the gold toenails!! π
She’s sweet… and demure… she’s awesome! π
Thanks guys!
I’m glad his new owner (a close friend of mine) likes him too. ^.^ Now to just get decent pics that show him off… and upload them to my gallery. ^.^
asinnamon wrote:No kidding! You brush on the chaulk in a “dust” form? Do you mix it with anything to turn it into a liquid?
No… actually… I just dust it on… blend it till I like how it looks…
Then I take the piece outside… and seal it with a clear acrylic sealer.
So this medium is applied in layers… I think that grey wolf is… approx. 5 layers…
And I do it the same every time… dust… blend… seal… dry. then Dust again. π
Teh final step is applying the different acrylic paints… the interference colors etc. π Those are last. ^.^
Finally one last coat of sealer and it’s done! π
asinnamon wrote:Looks amazing! How did you do that? Oh, and what are pastels?
Thanks guys. π
These are pastels… Chalk pastels. π What I use on horses and these wolves..
And here is Enviado (the horse) waiting for me to attack him with those pastels in front of him. π
And these are the paint brushes I use to apply the pastel dust… though mainly the lower three on PYOs…
Those are my weapons of choice! π
SilverArrow wrote:Ladybrooklyn, did you paint that horse? It looks very nice!
Yup! He’s been the pain in my arse for the last week or so. π
Problems with his paint… crackling in his finish… not having time… then last night as I’m ALMOST finished with him… I run out of Matte Sealer!!! ARGHH!!!!! π
Fantastic! π
Count me in! Gotta know when the Gryphons hit! π
Yup… the brown wolf should be headed to ebay… maybe this weekend…
Unless you want to make an offer on her. π I’m always willing to sell off of ebay too… HATE their fees. π
Hum… good point…
well if they go on thin… but opaque they do sound good… interesting…
I might have to cruise ebay for some. ^.^ I just don’t want to pay the gamer store prices! ::hee hee::
