I can’t wet blend to save my life, I blend via a series of very thin washes. I intend on giving this shading with an all-over wash of Payne’s grey, then dry brushing back up the highlights.
Like what kind of paint? What you do first the base color of you just paint? What Lind of brushes?
I did a prime coat of golden cobalt black, then it takes 2-3 coats of paint to cover that. I wouldn’t usually use a black base for colors this bright, because I know I’m just making it harder, but the body is going to be darkish, and honestly once I shade all of this, it’ll be darker too.
My colors are all Reaper miniature paints. The only issue with them is that they are flat paints, but my Liquitex Slo-Dri glosses them right up.
Brushes, I prefer white or gold taklon. They clean easily, hold a nice point, and don’t seem to lose many hairs.
I want to go with a charcoal body, but I’m going to have to see how that actually looks with such bright plumage.
My PYOs have arrived.
I’m in love with these sculpts. It’s like miniature quality detail on a much larger scale…I can’t wait to get started.
Well, my concern is, I’m probably going to have to ship it to the person I’m giving it to, and I want it to arrive completely intact. I’m worried that flat backs might be more prone to falling off. I probably need to wait until I have the sculpt here to actually look at, maybe see how the jewels fit where I want them before deciding. They should get here tomorrow…I wish they were here now!
I’m really glad it’s recognizable! I believe that will be his name after it’s done. I do have a bunch of pointed back gems, I just think they will end up working better for me.
I do not know how to post pictures. Hmm.
Does anyone know the dangling distance for what the keeper is holding? I don’t have my statute yet, but I wanted to get started making his trinket.
Ah, thank you very much. Not at all the same kind of application I want to do, but it definitely gives me more ideas to work with. I may well just use my pin vise and drill some nice little indentations for my jewels so they sit nice and secure.
I’m so excited about this PYO, it’s a gift for someone very special and I want it to be perfect.
I think I want to use the very tiny (~1mm) rhinestones, and I want to put them on the small scaled areas. The legs, the tops of the wings, the chest…I may have to “carve” a place for them to go. I really want to give the impression of a starry night sky.
