Honestly, the price hikes are not unreasonable. $10 is what, the cost of two Starbucks coffees? For a beautiful piece you can enjoy for years?
I am guessing that Melody/the production painters take at least an hour all said and told to paint one of these guys. Plus materials, Chessie’s QA time, eyes, gems, labor for the casters, packaging, boxes, bags, tags, etc…
I couldn’t say for certain what the profit margin is on these guys, but I can’t imagine it’s super high even at $60. Really, I can’t believe anyone thinks this is unreasonable for what they are and what goes into them.
I guess in January the I need to go on a quest for my remaining curlies. I have five left to get. 🙂
Susie answered this on the store page – the price of materials have in fact gone up and the labor on small sculpts is actually more than the labor on larger ones. Curlies have fairly complex color schemes in a lot of cases too for something that tiny.
I think it’s important to remember that an airbrush is not as precise as hand painting – so the more colors on a smaller area, the more time it takes to make it look good. 🙂
Megan –
I can never get photo bucket to work either.
However, flickr will give you nice, ready made code. If you have a flickr account (or make one) it’s MUCH easier to use.
Click on the picture you want.
Click “share” (right next to the FB and twitter logo above your picture)
It will default with “Grab the HTML/BBCode” open and set on medium – which is the perfect size for the forum.
Copy the code, past it to a forum post, and save your post.
Picture!
Dang it! And I was doing so well with not ordering a fennec too… 🙂
Pics might help 🙂
Anything still on the store pages could be restocked I think unless they specifically say it’s retired. So, that’s a risk we take if we want to get something that isn’t in stock, but also isn’t officially retired – we may end up paying a premium then see it go back in the store.
Rainbow for the curlies IS retired as far as I know (I think it’s retired for all sculpts), so I don’t think those will restock. Also, they aren’t listed any longer either.
I have seen it mentioned elsewhere that green and brown are short on paint so I don’t think those will be restocked (though Susie will certainly know for sure!)
I’d love to see gold and em pea restock (though em pea isn’t on the store page any longer) – both of those are still production colors, so it seems like they could easily do a run in them! Even if they don’t have COAs. 🙂
October 26, 2011 at 3:27 am in reply to: SOLD – Thanks for helping… Wanting to sell a Hatching Emperor Dragon (Emerald) #860917I know people were interested in it, but I think you were asking a little more than these typically go for. Wolfen usually has information handy on what a standard asking price is.
Good luck selling this guy!
There is a place in my area that has a new in box emerald wizard. If you’re interested, I can call them and find out the price. The one they have is the limited edition numbered guy.
PM’ed as well. I hope all works out. 🙁 I hate to hear people having to sell under these circumstances.
There were two GBY named Spririt? Sounds like a whoops.
I got mine, setsuna. 🙂 But thank you! The only signed curlie I’m after is the gold.
Sunscreen will remove permanent markers off your skin.
Especially useful for toddlers who draw on their own face before pictures or family outtings.
That sounds like a red flame, not a violet flame. The COA should state the color. I don’t think the violet flames were ever signed, but they do LOOK a lot like the red flame.
I haven’t seen a red flame come up on the forum, but a violet flame has sold for $110 – $225 (unsigned) recently.
There is also a place online selling rainbow mothers for $225, new in box. So that’s probably the highest you could sell yours for (my guess).
