I know there’ve been posts about pretty much the same thing, I read them already. But I really would just love to hear from someone who can offer some helpful suggestions?
I am casting my small baby ball python sculpture. The mold making worked great, but I can’t get rid of the bubbles in the cast no matter what I do. I’ve tried two different types of plaster (with and without “bubble-be-gone” spray, made it thinner, made it thicker), I’ve tried a resin/plaster mix (this stuff expands- creepy!- and still has lots of bubbles in it), and just plain resin (I still get bubbles!?!). I really want to use plaster for the finished products if possible. Resin just feels so.. cheap. I also don’t get the finished texture I want for painting that I can get with plaster.
I’ve tried using the bubble spray. It only helps (a little) right where it sticks when I spray the plaster in. It sort of doesnt’ stay put on my silicone mold, just sprays down into it.
I’ve tried vibrating the plaster inside the mold (with, ehm, a vibrator) 😮 and tried vibrating the mold itself, I’ve even set the entire mold on a table with a sandless sander running full blast for about 10 minutes.
My mold is open, so I can’t really shake it. Any helpful ideas? Mostly I end up with lots (LOTS) of tiny pinhole size bubbles, but I do sometimes get big ones that are more the size of a sewing pin head.
Help please! Any artists out there already gone through the headache?
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I think a lot of us are having a rough time lately.
That said, I saw you had a peacock male dragon for sale. Is he in pretty good shape, no scuffs or damage? Can you send me pics? They are one of my favorite Windstones, and as I only have my poor little lonely griffen (painted for me in the exchange two years ago), and I’m selling the other two PYOs I kept for myself, I think he needs some company!
I’d love to give him a good home. Let me know. 🙂
Hello everyone. I thought I would let anyone who might be interested know, I put the dappled Arab unicorn and the black-shouldered peacock griffin up for sale on ebay. I’m asking $75 for the uni, and $70 for the griffen.
ThanksHere’s links and pics:

I’m starting the unicorn at $75 and the Griffen at $70. Reminder pics of both. More pics on the auctions.
Thanks

She is supposed to be a Shagya Arab/Appaloosa cross. She looks yellowy because of the lighting, but isn’t- she is a nice, soft gray with just a hint of blue coloring to it. Her dapples along her hips, hair, and spine are white, and they blend to a soft gray as they fan away from her spine. I’m working on better pictures (better lighting anyways) and will post them in the upcoming week. She doesn’t currently have any stones set in her mane and tail (I’d had ruby red ones planned if I kept her), and she has gold tone beads painted throughout.
I wanted to keep her, but I’ve just been moved to “indefinate” layoff, and so she must go. Hoping she’ll go to a good home. If anyone is interested, let me know. I’ll be putting her on ebay this coming week. For now, more pictures are on my gallery page. http://www.windstoneeditions.com/galleries/index.php?cat=10374
Here is some new pictures with better lighting (the blue and greenish spots that appear aren’t on her- my computer does weird stuff to my photos). More pics in my gallery:

*blush* really? thanks! 🙂
I just found out my “two-week layoff” (which has been going since mid december), has just been put to an “indefinate layoff” so I’ll have to sell her. If you’re interested let me know, otherwise I’ll put her up on ebay probably the middle of this coming week.

Yeah, the picture has been bugging me. I’ve taken new photos on my camera (my good cam, not my phone cam!), but I have to shrink em down before I can post them. Will try to have some up later this week.
February 26, 2009 at 1:27 am in reply to: NEW PICTUREAS ADDED! Dapples!! My first PYO Unicorn. #752762Here she is, my first PYO unicorn I’ve done. She’s a lot bigger than I thought they would be, but I loved painting her. She’ll eventually get ruby-colored stones set in her mane and tail if I keep her. I may put her up for sale on ebay but wondered if anyone would actually bid on her. 😕
She’s not yellowy like the lighting makes her look- actually a soft gray (that has just a touch of soft blue tones in it), and her dapples are white towards her spine and shoulders, and get a little more of a softer gray as they fan away towards her legs. She is painted as if she were a cross between a Shagya Arab and an Appaloosa. I named her “Night Sky” because of all of her white dapples. More Pictures are in the gallery.
Here’s some better pics of her color- more angles and the whole shot are in my gallery.
Ooh, a pheasant was the other bird I was deciding between when I caved and did my last Griffen as a peacock. Will still do one later, once they’re back in stock. 🙂
I’ll keep an eye out for your wolf, i’d love to see how it turns out. Plan on doing any interference paints on him?
Oh! And have you ever seen the black melanistic pheasants? if no, look them up- black feathers with an iridescent green shine. Gorgeous!
I saw the post earlier on where to find the crystals, but there was no mention on size to use.
For the crystals you add down the mane and tail of the PYO unicorns, what size is best? For those who have already done them, what size did you use? I like the smaller ones- not the bigger ones, but I’m not sure if I need 2mm, or 3? Smaller?
Anyone?

He looks cool…I realy like his wings… 😉
Where did you get those eyes for him…I LOVE them… 🙂Thanks, I do my own eyes for a lot of my sculptures and puppets and things, so this is one of my custom painted pairs. It’s very fun and terribly frustrating painting them some times, but I can’t always find the type of eye I want. And it’s uncanny how reflective that green is in person! The watered-down version of that green is the color I used for his wing feathers.
I’m getting ready to do a bunch of ball python eyes for a sculpt/cast of one I’m working on now. They’ll be really tricky. I’m so excited. 😀
I’ve been staring at a picture of a black-shouldered peacock wanting to make him into a griffen for so long, I finally caved and used my last griffen to make him. There’s a ton of interference paint and Pearl ex used on him, and copper/lime green eyes that really reflect light, and I really like him (he’s much prettier, and iridescent in person), so I havent’ decided yet wether to put him up on ebay or keep him.
Anyways, here he is. No name yet. Any suggestions?
He’s not quite as “smurfy” blue as he looks, more of a deeper blue with lighter blue and green interference all over. The green on his wings are very iridescent.
I know this was an old post, but I was curious if you found anything that will work. 😕 I tried the mould making stuff you mentioned, and I found it’s really better for small, and flattish pieces.
I’m working on casting a sculpture myself, and I’m going to attempt using the Alumilite brand H3 silicone rubber for the mould, then possibly using a resin/gypsum mixture to cast it in. Not sure if the hydrocal stuff will still give off heat (even though it’s mixed with resin) once you try to paint it.. Hmm.
Anyways, if you’re still stuck, I would look over http://www.alumilite.com. Check out their how-to tutorials and stuff. the H3 silicone rubber they sell is great for deep undercuts and negative areas. 🙂
Quote:She just got in today. Looks fantastic up close. The fur has a very realistic quality. Very nicely done.
Thank you! I had wondered if it was someone from the site who had got him- i hadn’t recognized the name though. Glad to know he ended up with someone who I know will appreciate him.
Thanks!
If this is in the wrong forum just let me know. i wasn’t sure if it should go here or in the Flea Market. 😕 🙂
I just thought I’d let anyone who might be interested know, I’m currently open for any commissions. I’m still offering the great $50 rate on the first two unicorn commissions (no matter how detailed a paint job!), as well as $35 for the first Muse commission. These prices include a statue AND the paint job, but not shipping costs.
If anyone has a Keeper Dragon statue to send me, I’ll be willing to do the painting for $35 (I need a finished photo for my website). Shipping costs are buyer’s responsibility.
Any questions please feel free to ask- message me here on the board or email is on the link below.
