The only one that keeps coming to mind for me, is last year I asked everybody to send me money for Christmas and my birthday (in January) so I could add a Moluccan Cockatoo to our family.
Lily has been with us a year now (I got her around Thanksgiving as an early present) and she is a wonderful presence (presents!) to have in our home!!! 😀You could always just respond that you don’t have one, and have never listed one for sale on eBay. If they’re a forum member, they’ll figure it out; if not (if it’s truly phishing) they’ll probably drop it.
It’s been about seven years since I moved from Portland, OR, so I have absolutely NO sense of the job market.
I do remember that having moved from Chicago, the Portland living expenses seemed very reasonable. Rent was definitely cheaper than in Chicago (especially in the Portland ‘burbs), and there’s no sales tax on ANYTHING. The downside is that property taxes are apparently really high – but I never owned a home there, so had no personal experience with that.I’m with the folks who mentioned having problems with overly landscaped cities – that was a big prob I had with Chicago. I lived pretty much right downtown in Chicago, so the closest park I had available was the lake waterfront, and every tree had been planned and planted. It never felt right. Plus, I felt sooo sorry for the withered, stunted sidewalk trees crammed in between the skyscrapers.
So one of the things I loved best about Portland is, while it’s a big enough city that you really can get good city benefits (fun clubs, some culture, lots of artists live and work there, you can find open stores at 2am that aren’t gas stations), the city is surrounded and infiltrated by big, lush trees. When you stand on a hill and look toward the city, you literally can’t see the buildings for the trees, except for the few blocks of skyscrapers right on the Columbia River waterfront. And even going to the waterfront park, the city manages to feel “natural” somehow. Like a city kind of nestling and hiding in a forest.
Another thing that may be worth mentioning is local architecture. In Minnesota, for the most part the houses all look like they’re built to be huddled and snug against the cold winters. They’re kinda compact, with smaller windows. Here in Arizona, on the other hand, they sprawl out like a suntanning lizard. Nobody has basements (unlike MN, where EVERYBODY has basements), the ceilings are all lofted, and many of the houses have that stucco style walling.
In Portland, they have my favorite kind of architecture in houses: Big ole gorgeous Victorian houses, with all kinds of funny interconnected rooms and nooks and crannies and bay windows and turrets and stuff. They have character.
And I’ll cast my vote in with whoever mentioned how awesome the Columbia Gorge is. Drive 20 minutes from town and you are bathed in breathtaking beauty!!
(Must stop now or I will be tempted to start looking at housing in Portland 😳 )
YES! I heard about these updates yesterday. SOOOooooooooo excited!!!! 😀 😀 😀
Well, Kujacker, I think you already know all this from my end 😀
I grew up in the midwest, specifically Minnesota. I would never, ever live there again. Just because of the winters alone. (Though I am willing to visit in mid-winter. Just not willing to live in it full time.) Same deal for the 3 years I lived in Chicago. I felt like a hothouse flower that got misplanted in a sidewalk crack there.I loved living in Portland, Oregon the best by far. The smell of the fresh mountain/ocean air. The fact that a mountaintop and the oceanside were only an hour’s drive away in either direction. Seeing Mount Hood on the horizon. The deep green forests like something straight out of a fantasy novel. The fact that it would only snow a teeny tiny bit once or twice in Portland proper, but a 30 min drive could get you to a great sledding adventure in the foothills. And sure, it rains for days on end… but just for a little while, once a day. I could go on. I would move back in a heartbeat, if it weren’t for what is keeping me in Arizona.
Both the grandmas live in Arizona though. So here we stay. At least until the kiddies are a little older – or some really, really compelling reason to move elsewhere comes up.
Anyway, my vote continues to be 100% Portland!
Ok, I have a question about these. I ordered one each of the 2 different PYO dragons (smaller dragon, and Keeper). I was willing to sell my proverbial soul for the metallic teal eyes for both, but they weren’t available a month ago. I haven’t yet touched my pyo’s, much less their eyes, and now metallic teal is available for both of them. If I’m willing to pay shipping both ways, can I send my lavender eyes back to Windstone and have them send me the metallic teal eyes instead?
*crosses fingers, prays vehemently*Hmm, I think I would have vastly preferred enjoying this particular storm while seated on my covered patio…
Rather than experiencing it on a major roadway, with no shelter, in my car, with the kids in the back seat.
It was a bit more adventure than I was anticipating that day.
(Though it’s an excuse to get moving on trading our car in for something more family sized. Glass half full, right?)It was October 5.
I would know, because I just filed an insurance claim on it.
*pokes fingers in the dents on the car, and contemplates the cracked windshield*
I would like to put my name in the hat…. please?
and wow, what a wonderful idea. MG you are an inspiration for the season!
If there’s a Rainbow Fledgie in there, I’d like to bribe you into selling it… 😀
Good luck Lokie! 😀
Puffpastry and anybody else who didn’t get a Halloween egg:
If you’re not on it already, join the Dragon Cave Chat room. There’s a special chat room in there just for trades. I am absolutely certain there will be a TON of Halloween egg trading, and Free For Alls (where they just announce the egg, count down, and drop it for free).
You stand an excellent chance of finding a few eggs there. If you know how to catch an egg using its code, definitely take advantage of the Free For Alls. If you have a decent scroll with tradeable stuff, you’ll almost certainly get at least one or two Halloween eggs in trade. And remember – some folks take I.O.U.’s (where they give you the Halloween egg immediately, and you promise to breed, grow, or catch something for them later). Please feel free to PM me if you have questions about how to do any of this stuff. I floundered my first few weeks on the Cave and would be happy to save anybody else the trouble of learning it all on their own. Plus, this is your only chance to get Cave bred Halloween ’10 dragons, so I want to help make sure you get those eggs!
Awww, chute! I wish I’d seen these posts earlier – I was catching eggs for others! (“Catchers” don’t have to catch on their scroll and then punt the eggs to you, taking the chance the egg will get lost in transit. If you are trusting, they can sign into your account with a temporary password so they can catch for your scroll directly).
For future reference, I am happy to catch for anybody during holiday releases. Especially if you missed this one. In fact, I would be happy to put you guys first on my list, as Windstone priorities!! Just pm me (here or on the Dragon Cave forum, where my name is also jerusha. It’s jerusha everywhere 😉 ) a couple days in advance so we can work out the details.
Yay Pegasi!
I punted my 2nd gen pygmyXpumpkin and caught another PB as a free-for-all. So now I have 2 PB’s… with any luck they will cooperate next year and I can give out some 3rd gen purebred pumpkin love! 😆
(Plus I had caught another pygmyXpumpkin and gifted it to someone as their first holiday dragon. The first one I punted into AP also ended up one someone’s scroll as a first holiday. So everybody wins!!)

I **really** want a Purebred pumpkin (2nd gen). But I hear most pumpkin X pumpkin mates refuse each other. So I am wondering if I should just grab what I can get?
I would grab what you can get as I honestly don’t think you can get a purebred pumpkin.
Once my pumpkin is available to breed I’ll give it a try. I’m kind of wishing I hadn’t frozen pumpkin hatchlings last year so I could have more to breed. I’m also regretting not attempting breedings with my pygmies sooner because I had no time to get a new CB mate for my picky pumpkin girl who didn’t like my male pygmy.
Well, I stalked the AP and managed to grab a 2nd gen non-purebred pumpkin as it was passing through.
Then I hung out on chat a looong time and finagled a PureBred Pumpkin 😆 YAY!!!!!!!
