Well, so there is such a thing as metallic clay. Shows how much I know! Haha!
In light of recent events…I needed a distraction and made a second sculpture. I think I work better in 3-D. Naming this one a “desert canyon drake.” Any critiques? It’s made with super sculpey original and medium. I haven’t baked it yet so I can still make changes. I haven’t decided on a paint scheme.

Turns out the manufacturing company my dad works for is not “going under”, but retooling and outsourcing. Of course the area my dad works in is the one getting outsourced, however, there was mention he could possibly be placed in another area of the company. He seems optimistic about it. Hopefully, it’ll work out for him. I guess we’ll see. They said it would be 2-3 months before he finds out one way or the other. Until then, I’m not getting my hopes up and making plans for the worse. My life as I have known for at least a decade has been torn apart these past two years. Everything is getting to be unfamiliar. Still, I’m trying to be somewhat positive that maybe it is indeed an opportunity to make a positive change.
Again, thank you for making an effort to say a few nice words. When I posted the news on Facebook, not a peep from any of my fair weather friends and family except for one family member who threw salt in the wound, taking the opportunity to criticize. Times of crisis show you, of your friends and family, who really cares. Sometimes it seems strangers care more than the people you know.

Found out my dad is losing his job after putting almost 20 years into the place. Despite the “booming economy”, which is clearly a lie, his factory is shutting down. It was a good paying job that allowed him to be able to support the both of us without too much of a financial pinch. He’s so old it’s unlikely he’ll get hired anywhere but walmart as a low wage greeter if he’s lucky. We’re both out of work and neither of us have savings and he doesn’t even have retirement to fall back on. Having burned my savings with all those health issues I had last year, which I’m still fighting with, plus losing my sweet dog, and not being able to find a job myself, I just don’t know what to say or how to feel. Maybe it’s a cliche to say this….I’m just…done. Things didn’t start out terrible this year and that’s when I became suspicious something terrible was around the corner. They say it’s being paranoid thinking like that, but it’s the reality as far as my life is concerned. My dad said, jokingly before this happened, if he didn’t have a job to go he’d problably die because he’d have nothing to do. I hope that’s not next. Having a job is what kept him going. Being alone in this world, I mean truly alone, is my top fear. I’m only one funeral away from that fate. I suppose it was best my sweet dog passed on last year. I wouldn’t have been able to afford her heart pills.
This is great for your first figure! It is very coppery and looks very much like what you were going for. The color, is that the color of the clay or did you paint it?
It’s painted clay. I used Plaid Folk Art metallic acrylic paints. If metallic clay exists, that would be awesome and I’d want!
