The black areas on my black gold male have a matte finish while the black on my BG fledgling is glossy. *shrug*
I wouldn’t be too concerned about tar. I bought a white male pegasus from a smoker, and it was so caked in smoke residue that it looked beige. But all it took was a five minute scrub with a soft cloth dampened with warm water to restore it to pristine white.
oops, double post
I am painting another batch of grab bag baby unicorns now. They are not normal horsey colors.
They are paint barf and magic mushroom colors.*reads, throws hands in the air and starts waving them wildly with glee*
Yaaaaayyyy!!!!! More uni babies!
As for natural colors versus fantasy, I love them both. I do think it’s a good idea to keep them to separate batches though, so that people who want paint-pukes don’t get bays and vice versa.
Definitely peacock repaints. But the seller has got them listed for $9.99 each, so it’s not like they’re over-charging.
I’m surprised they look as nice as they do, considering they have no paint detail. I guess that’s a real testament to how good Melody’s sculpts are that even solid color spray painted ones look good.
Personally, I like the slightly better color match and depth of the metallic eyes, but the regular eyes still match reasonably well and show off the markings better.
I think which eyes you should choose depends on what is more important to you: exact color match or prominent markings. Given that the keeper is supposed to represent a certain character, I would think that the markings are more important. Hope that helps. 🙂
I’m one for a moderate amount of patina. I find the new version doesn’t have quite enough, but some of the first version had too much. And it depends on the sculpt – the bigger ones can take more patina than the smaller ones, I think. I was so ready to get an OW or an Emp in copper patina!
THIS!
I too like a medium amount of patina; enough that there is serious green on there, but not as much as the first version. As for the violet accents, I could take or leave them.
A restock of CP emperors with more patina would blow my mind!
Ha! As soon as I read the thread title, that Homestar toon immediately popped into my mind. Fun times.
January 4, 2012 at 3:36 pm in reply to: just me being nosy, but curious if anyone knows this person's issue… #868128To me she sounds miffed that her pieces do not fetch the high prices that the test paint Windstones get. I can’t imagine why…
Oh snap!
My take on her little rant is that she used to collect Windstones and maybe tried to imitate their beauty with her own stuff, and failing that has become jealous. Probably angry about being (correctly) reported for keyword spamming too. How spiteful and immature. 🙁
Good to hear from you, Hannah, you have been missed!
Dark Cloud is a lovely little dragon. I particularly like the way the black of his face seems to continue down the center of his throat and chest scales. It’s a nice visual touch.
I see all the pieces listed individually on eBay now, so I guess the deal fell through. 🙁
Sigh. I give up. 4 hours of searching, no answers. I think the answer is in an older thread, but all the threads from 2007 and 2006 won’t open for me. Looks just like normal threads, but when I open them nothing more than the 1st post shows, none of the replies. So eother it’s somewhere I’m not looking, or it’s in the threads I can;t open. Maybe will find the next one.
But hey, when the answer is given, think you all who got it can show the rest of us how you found it?The first question mentioned that the answer could be found in old forum and blog entries, so I went to the blog, since it’s a lot smaller than the entire forum!
On page 6 of the blog, the blog entry titled “Grizzly bears” mentions Mark Hines Creations as being the name before Windstone editions. I found the answer to question 2 really easily too, but I can’t talk about that… yet. 😉
I think this is a very nice color scheme, especially with the deep blue and dark antiquing contrasting against the pale yellow. An emp in blueberry would look outstanding.
December 15, 2011 at 5:04 am in reply to: Wampus Dragons PYOs: 1st PYO, Taisho Sanke Koi Ki-Rin (in progress) #865674I love what you’ve done with the scales and hooves. My only suggestion would be to add a hint of antiquing to the white fur. Obviously, it would have to be super light antique, but just enough bring out the details.
For example, this ebay ki-rin has a trace of light blue antique in the fur.
Maybe you could use pale gold or really diluted orange on yours. Of course, it’s your call. 🙂
Last day, people! Sunset will be be going to a new home soon; will it be yours??? 😉
