  • in reply to: "Spirit Wolf" EVERYONE PLEASE read! I NEED advice #541189

Personally I liked this wolf and was oing to bid, but the only real thing stopping me is I’m geared for Ki-Rins and getting Ki-Rins from other painters and don’t want to stray out of that…that and I just bought one from Arlla. Otherwise this would would’ve been mine. I’ve still very tempted since I see all the awesome skill and work you put in, and don’t really understand why it did not sell. Maybe it really is the white on the face…maybeif that were changed a little it would be different? I know if you did a pinto-style KiRin like this with war pait in following with Native American themes…you know what, I’ll PM about that. Also, I hope you can feel better soon from your medical ordel. Sounds like an allergic reaction of some sort but definately get everything checked out and be on the alert.

I love okapis so adore this KiRin. For some reaosn I find the all-brown on the scales somewhat daunting though…only because I feel the scales of a kirin aren’t totally condusive to equine or other colors of animals in that nature, but this is very awesome.

Also, are you looking at Windstones when you should be watching video monitors? Lol, just kidding.

Those scales are killer, almost koi-ish.

Sorry guys, I saw it, it unusually struck a nerve with me and I just HAD to have it. I adore natural colors and unique styles. But no worries…she can make another exactly like it or close-to and she’ll post that one for ya’ll.

Actually, I am on the talent pool board. I am listed as the second top illustrator there based on experience if you don’t count the cover graphic desigher that’s up there as well. I have one more book they need to put after my name yet…I should call them on that tomorrow, but yes, that’s where 99% of my children’s book illustration gigs come from!

I am familiar with artists who live off the land. I was amazed to hear a story of one who used to live in a teepee, then made himself a hobbit-style home inside a hill and essentitally pays no real rent and such. It’s amazing to see people not living by what society deems a “norm” of exsistance and I would love to incorporate more of that into my life and getting rid of the major stresses of life. Never know.

Bergsma also has at least one children’s book series out now…did you know? She probably has more actually. I have them but would have to look up the titles but they star a dragon in one, and a wizard prince with a unicorn in another. Very awesome art.

I like what you have going so far. I’d too not use the blue…I’d replace it with pink (since it’s a color already used), brown, or silver if you do silver hooves. I say silver because that would match the color you got when blending the black to the white and having that little marked silver area. Otherwise, looks pretty cool.

Glad you liked the scratching dragon cavern, BTW. Just had to do a little dragon PYO with semi-matching colors, lol. I like the color combo. Anyway, what were you in the hospital for?

I wonder how far away this is from production…I’d hope this gets released soon, even more so than the big dragon. But it looks very unfinished yet so we’ll probably be waiting a while.

Well, the difference is I do artwork full-time and currently don’t yet have a chilren’s illustration gig this year yet. I have a couple major projects to do over the course of the year but other than that I’m pretty free to paint all day. My husband just went on a business trip overseas, and when he does so I normnally stay up until 4 or 5 am or just all night long painting. Unfortunately I’m behind by at least 2 or 3 painted pieces because of feeling sick, otherwise I’d have more done and can do some of the more detailed pieces I’ve been planning and finish the siamese set I talked about. But now I don’t know what will happen if I just don’t feel good. I guess I’ll be slowing down some. I planned a silver and black dragon, a firey flame Ki-Rin with red and black scales, and a golden dawn dragon. Eventually I’ll get to them.

One interesting thing I found out about the famous artist Jody Bergsma…she actually has about a 6 month stay every year in a secondary house where she can focus just on her paintings in sort of seclusion…so the rest of the year she tours and does other things she has to to promote her work. S she paints for a straght half a year and then doesn’t for half a year.

This is a very long health-related post but you can scroll down to the pics. The black-mane “Golden Twilight” is a companion piece for the “Golden Dawn” white-maned one I just had on ebay. The second is a new white-maned blue-scale beauty I call “Cloud Dancing” with interference paint in his mane to make him strikingly pearly blue in the right light. I have’t felt the need or desire to do antiques on these guys…loved them the way they are, but I promise more complex looking ones in the future…but right now health reasons have made me opt for solid tones and to get that out of my system. I know you’re probably all tired of it by now, lol.

Keep us posted and best wishes in this. Also, do some internet research…never know what you yourself may find. Don’t settle for what a doctor says right off, I learned the hard way.

in reply to: Health Issues/Late Commissions #541078

Well, I wish the US would step up to the plate with medical issues and the current crisis therein…but they won’t until we get a docotr shortage and the situation becomes far too bad to ignore and it’s too late for many people.

Unfortunately it’s all these little rules that the office has and then my insurance provider has that was causing problems. The doctor didn’t write me a sufficient note and I got bounced back and forth between doctors. Even though it was obvious I needed bloodwork soon, nobody could do it because of their rules and my insurance company rules. So even though I wanted to pay for the tests myself and bypass my insurance, I still couldn’t get the test because the slip of pper was insufficient. My insurance requres that i have an original signed notice by the doctor before they will pay for any testing, so I was hoping to at least get the verbal ok by the doctor to the office so I could go outside of insurance to get the tests bu nobody called him…long story short I went home without testing and now that I’m back on blood thinners the tests I’m going to get on thursday will not really be any good since the point was to get them off blood thinners. But at least i finally managed an appointment two weeks after i was supposed to get tested…ugh!

Do you make other styles of hats too?

in reply to: Watership Auction! *drool* I WANT! #541279

Dude, I’m not into those figures but finding the entire set like that must certainly be extremely rare. If you love Watership and have been wanting the figures you better bid on this…because you know you won’t regret it. Trust me, I’ve passed up stuff like this before and lived to regret it! Now I know better.

in reply to: I though this thing sold already?? #542002

I don’t know if I can say cheap paint because I use both the cheap and the good stuff, it’s just the painter’s way of using it. There also looks to be golden interferance on it in that one close-up of the head…so the painter knows something about that and perhaps does come on the forums to know about what we like to see. But another thing, it looks stark because there’s no attempt to blend solid colors. If there was some blending it would look smoother and more realistic.

Perhaps this was painted with quickness in mind to sell, or maybe it’s painted by a youth who’s trying it for the first time and doesn’t have prior paint know-how, you know? I know a few parents have contacted me over EBay about getting sculptures and what brands of paint to use for their kids to paint and sell. This could just be something like that.

In any case, it’s someone’s try, and while it’s not the most wonderful looking style, it can be improved on and I hope they do read the forums. Even my own first few pieces weren’t the greatest looking things.
