And thanks to Purplecat for the cool siggy! 😀
Thanks Melody for the background on my old Mother Dragon. I’ve had her for so long, she’s kinda like part of the family, and since I do Family History research, it’s really neat to learn more about where she came from.
Thanks!
Ski, I love the color of the dragon in your siggy. Was that a production color or something special?
Here’s a pic of my black dragon. I found him in a Wicks & Sticks store in Austin, Texas while on vacation again, 🙂 in the mid to late 80’s. I was told he was a prototype for a new color. Later, the peacock(?) color came out.
The flash shows the purple and blue shading on the large scales. Otherwise in normal light, he looks mostly black. His eye is a darker blue too.
[img]Here’s some more pics. She’s as heavy as my other Windstone dragons. When I bought her, I also bought a hatchling painted in the same color. I couldn’t decide which to buy, so I bought them both. 😀 I don’t have the hatchling anymore though. I gave it away as a gift. If there had been a male, it may have already been purchased by someone else.
😀
Wow, 130 in one year. I don’t think my entire dragon collection has 143 dragons. Most of my other dragons are little dragons picked up here and there, usually on vacations.
I hadn’t expected to add to my Windstones quite so soon, but I visited a local gift shop (Notions & Potions) today and found a new dragon that needed to come home with me. 🙂 My young brown now has a young dragon in rainbow colors to keep him company.
And this weekend, my black male may have a peacock mother to keep him company.
Hi Melody,
New member here. A couple of members suggested I ask you about my old dragon. I was wondering if you had any background information about this color/edition. She has the signature stamp Pena ’84. I bought her at the Coronado Hotel gift shop in San Diego in July 1985. She has some damage from all the traveling she’s done in the past 20 years, but I didn’t want to risk an amateur attempt at a patch job. You can’t see them in this photo, but her eyes have a larger pupil than the green male dragon that I have in another photo. Anyway, any tidbits of information that you might remember about this style would be wonderful to hear about. Thanks!
[img]Thanks! The color chart was a big help! Some of the jewel color names had me wondering what they looked like.
I posted a picture of four of my dragons under General Windstone/Show your Windstone Collection Thread 4.
I forgot to include the brown hatchling in the photo session. 🙂
Here’s a picture of four of my dragons. The brown hatchling isn’t pictured. They were acquired in the mid-80s.
The green mother dragon has a flat green color and none of the blue and purple paint touches that the green male dragon has. I’m guessing she is a predecessor to that color style. She also has no Windstone stamp or felt on the bottom, but she does have a Pena ’84 stamp on her. I was on vacation when I found her in a gift shop. If anyone has any information on this color series, if there was one, I’d love to hear about it. I purchased a hatchling at the same time, But I don’t have that figure any more.
Thanks from me too. I kept reading about limited edition colors and wondering that they looked like. After finding this thread, I checked the EBay Gallery.
Wow!I’m already looking into ordering a PYO dragon. Is there anywhere on the site that shows the different eye and jewel colors?
Thanks Purplecat. It’s always neat when someone recognizes the name. I loved that series. When the third book finally came out, everything else took a back seat until I finished reading it.
I looked at your photo link. Awesome dragons. They’re beautiful!
Thanks everyone!
Actually, I have 5 dragons. I forgot my brown hatchling. The other two that I didn’t mention is a green male and a brown young dragon. I’d bought the green male as a mate for the green mother. I was going to get a peacock mother for the black dragon, but it was one of those things that I kept putting off. Instead of collecting a family in one color, I’m more likely to get each one in a different color. 🙂
I had no idea there was such a community of Windstone enthusiasts to share ideas with. I’ve been browsing the messages and drooling over the PYO Gallery throughout the afternoon.
I only have 4 dragons, but they are old treasured dragons. I have a mother dragon that I believe to be either a prototype or a pre-Windstone Editions dragon. She’s a flat green with touches of gold highlights and is dated 1984. My favorite is a male dragon in black with a few highlights of color, dated ’86. I was told when I bought this dragon that it was a prototype for the peacock color. Both dragons were found during vacation trips out of town. 🙂
So many new designs and colors have been created since I last acquired a Windstone dragon. I see that I’m way over due for a new one. 🙂 I foresee an Old Warrior joining the family, I just don’t know which color yet.
