Hi everyone! I have a new doll up for sale, Tehta the antlered wingless gryphon. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300636005264#ht_9991wt_1398

His commissioner couldn’t finish her payments so he’s up for sale starting at just $23! (£15) I can’t guarantee he’ll make it to America in time for Christmas but nevertheless it’s a great price for an original (and early) Magweno doll. 🙂 My current commissions start at £150 ($235) so … it’s a good price haha. The auction finishes on the 16th.

in reply to: Your Favorites! (Getting to know fellow members) #864927

Your favourite colors: Grass green, bahama blue, teal, chocolate brown, sunny yellow

Your favourite animals: Ohhhh that’s a toughie… It depends on context, whether it’s beautiful or practical or because it’s bizarre. I like corvids for their intelligence, lapwings for their calls, dogs for their companionship, newts for their complexity, whales for their immense size (and consequentially otherwordly mysticalness) (that was a rushed list, I like all animals, particularly bright, flashy, magical, not so keen on cats at all)

Your favourite mythical creatures: Kirins, gryphons, dragons, goblins, kelpies, in that order!

Favourite food (that can be mailed): Bizarre foreign sweeties, lebkuchen herzen, salami, cheese, olives

Favourite flowers: agapanthus, daffodils, daisies (the lawn type), honeysuckle, lilac

Favourite gift: Practical things like cool paint, brushes, silicone, feathers, mummified things

Favourite collections: Feathers! Dried plants, nature books, craft books, cool natural phenomenon like ammonites and owl pellets.

    I was just thinking that… O_o Creepy!

I was about to say what Koshii said
I swear I’ve watched that video about a hundred times, I LOVE animatronics. When that video appeared I just about peed myself I got so excited haha. It’s my dream to work on a project like that, to actually have the know-how to do that! Any animatronics related video or film that’s around I tell you I’ve watched it and studied it and tried to make something derived from it, but robotics is so hard. Either way, until I learn how to do it, it would be cool just to get my little dolls’ eyes moving.

I got Helaku today! She’s just awesome! You know, even though I saw all the pictures with the different poses, I didn’t realize just how flexible these guys were until I got to play with mine. I don’t have anything quite like it, and it is just too cool.

Gleeee! That’s so awesome, I’m glad you like her. It is hard selling something so interactive in a photo-based market so word of mouth is super important. I can harp on about how bendy they are all I like but it won’t hit home until someone else with one comments on it too, or you get to see one in person. And a lot of people are scared to play with them so I’m glad you have been! I try to wrap them into crazy shapes when I package them so when they arrive the new owner is forced to bend them hehe
Anyway I’m glad she got there safe 🙂

    @Scenceable
Yea you did tell me that story once haha! I love the mohair on your sculpts, it really makes them quintessentially Quequinox ^_^ Aha my Mum yells at me for not doing things properly too, I always have her going through my head when I’m making dolls, “no do that properly! sew smaller stitches! if a job’s worth doing it’s worth doing right!”

in reply to: Magweno Art Dolls #864498

Hahaha Mum’s are crazy like that, my Mum does that when I show her other people’s art. Then she starts comparing it to mine even if it’s like an incredibly realistic digital portrait, or an oil painting of mountains, something really out of my comfort zone, she’ll say “you could do that” when there’s no way on the planet I could ever do that haha

More finished dolls! One is a commission from our very own Scenceable 😉 Hmm I wonder which one it could be… The other is another baby balrog, someone saw the first and had to have one for their friend’s Christmas.

in reply to: Christmas list #863870

We always get Kinder eggs for Christmas, even though the youngest of us is 37 by now! And we do love to play with the little toys, even my father who’s in his 70s. LOL!

But lets be honest: the chocolate egg isn’t very good.

Aw I love the chocolate! It’s better than galaxy any day

Is it illegal to mail alcohol to the states?

I think I read somewhere that it’s illegal to send any sort of food across the border, but I’ve sent and received tons and never had an issue. Has anyone done it? I mean I’m not saying I’m doing to mail windstone a ton of booze or anything I’m just curious now!

We have these chocolate eggs in canada called kinder eggs, apparently not only do they not sell them in USA, but it’s illegal to, they’re considered “contraband” and someone got a huge fine for taking them over the border. Because they have a toy inside, and in the states you can’t put toys inside food or something.

Now I’m wondering if they make maple flavoured alcohol. XD

Oh my god you’re kidding!! The US doesn’t have kinder eggs!! Kinder eggs bring so much happiness to my life, to those who don’t know you have the toy comes all in pieces rolled up in the instructions and they all get curled up into a little egg pod. I got an albatross once when I was little and it had a tiny set of cogs in it, so when you rolled it along the table it’s wings flapped. It was the best.

Incidentally I think the US has Irn Bru on the banned list too because Scotland refuses to give up the ‘secret ingredient’. (It’s GIRDERS!)

    (Not really.)

I want a kinder egg for Christmas and a naff 70s jumper with reindeers on it.

in reply to: Young Grab Bag Poad 11/11 Thread #863753

Aw you guys are all so lucky, I wish I could have got one! I LOVE poads! If I had managed to get one I don’t think I would have minded so much what it looked like either, I would have just been soooo excited about having one. 🙂

He’s so beautiful, I could stare at him for hours haha

Oh Vindur, Liwanu, Porphyrios and the ferret-dragon definitely. A lovely girl on DA sent me a pack of amazing fur for free and my mum’s friend sent me some (more) pheasant wings, so I was going to make a gryphon out of them some day.

    (Porphyrios and Vindur, 2010 dolls!)

Well I wasn’t going to do another ebay auction but John and Janine and a few other people have persuaded me so in the next month there will be a random doll for sale. Anything in particular you guys would like? I haven’t started it yet 🙂

Oh I have a newsletter now so people don’t have to check on my website or DA or tumblr or anything, you just get an email. Convenient! If you want to sign up you can go to my website: http://www.magweno.com, click on ‘contact’ then there’s a little box there. It’ll be used responsibly (no spam) to let you know of cool updates in price changes or when I finish the resin eye technique, as well as things like eBay auctions and Etsy listings for OOAK dolls.

Here’s my most recent finished commission! Called Balthazar.
