😀 I actually have his pictures in the “January Grab Bag Baby Unicorn -Post them as you get them” thread! He’s on page 4; post #40!

-It’a true though! Besides our uni’s, I haven’t seen any others either! At least a whole bunch of us will get the privilege to own a color-shifting Windstone once the curlies come out! Like you said, I can only imagine how incredible it will look on scales too!!!

The color shifting paint looks a little weird.. it looks like a muted aqua green up close with shadows of pink UNDER the scales, but from a different angle and distance it will totally change color to magenta. This paint really needs to be on a moving object!
I don’t think it is that impressive on a dragon, but it is fantastic on a smooth pebble creature!

Interesting, because I didn’t like it on the unis, but one look at it on the curlies and I wanted to scoop up the whole table. Sent the pics to a friend who also wasn’t thrilled with it on the unis, and now yes, count us in for two, please!

To me, the stuff just looks MADE for dragon scales and hide, especially on a piece in open display; say on a desk where you’ll see it from different angles and heights all the time.

Any rough ballpark idea on timing for the curlies? Won’t hold you to a guess, I promise. 🙂

Really I should’ve posted my life at the moment here, instead of in Melody’s stuff… Dad will be in hospital a couple of days. They think he’s leaking blood internally, just can’t find where. He’s had a transfusion but still more testing to be done. Mum is with him and she’ll be late coming home. Having bronchitis sux – it hurts to cough and hurts to breathe and I get winded coming up the stairs. As for the divorce situation – I’ve no idea where this is coming from. Rod just announced one day that he was done and that’s been that. He wants me out of the house. He won’t go. Boyohs are thoroughly disgusted with him and don’t want to be where he is. I’m currently in Utah helping my parents and Rod and boyohs are in Idaho, at home. I have no idea how I’m going to be able to support myself and the boyohs. I’ve been out of the job market over 20 years. Who in their right mind would hire me? I’ve just been raising boyohs… Really makes you wonder about your decision making skills. If I goofed up the marriage decision so badly, what other important things have I screwed up?

As I said in the other thread–*hugs* and I hope the health situations improve rapidly for both you and your dad.

Don’t waste time right now on judging yourself. Instead, spend that energy on protecting yourself, and finding the best lawyer you can.

Start checking into your legal rights ASAP–most of what you need is online. In WA, for example, he legally couldn’t order you to move out. Granted, most people will opt to leave, because no one wants to live with that toxicity, but legally speaking at least in this state, if your name is on the house (and even if it isn’t, in a community property state, which Idaho is), you have the right to remain in it whether he likes it or not, unless a judge orders otherwise. It may or may not be the same in Idaho–you need to find out.

Likewise, talk to a lawyer, both about common custody and support arrangements in Idaho, and how about liberal the judges are in determining settlements. Here, it’s very very rare that a displaced homemaker would not receive both alimony and child support (if she has custody of the kids)–again, even though it’s a community property state, the judges have some discretion on how things are apportioned. There are also frequently laws regarding at what age the kids are old enough to decide for themselves which parent they want to live with.

WA also has education programs for displaced homemakers at greatly reduced costs or even free. Look for something similar.

Again, huge hugs. It sucks, and having everything go sideways like this at once just makes it all harder.

Edit to add: yes, they may put you through a mental eval. Unless it comes back with something like “currently experiencing extreme psychotic episodes”, it’ll likely have no bearing on your fitness as a parent.

And he can kiss off “getting everything”. Idaho IS a community property state.

Looks like so far we all like the same ones …lol. Especially the perty blue with the feathers !
I also like one of the rainbow ones close to the center but definately love the pinks and purples.
Ill let you all know what i get !

LOL–well, I’m not into the feathers and not big on the stripes this time around either (except for the tiger one). I love the butterfly wings, mosaics/stained glass, and really any of the “capes”–and I want a bit of copper in mine if possible. So if I get feathers, it will likely be up for trade.

Having seen with the last batch of unis though that some I never even noticed turned out to be absolutely gorgeous, I probably won’t have any favorites to hunt for until these babies start getting to their first destinations. 🙂

    Congratulations! That’s a big milestone!

And, I don’t know, using a dragon-inspired check to buy a poad doesn’t seem illogical to me. 🙂

I’ve got a whiney mood going on as well… Still in my jammies – I have bronchitis and am still contagious *blerg* My dad went to hospital this morning after collapsing on the bathroom floor and is still there and on top ot it all, Rod is divorcing me and wants custody of me boyohs and me to pay child support to him… This little poady is prolly my last purchase for a long while. I’m sorry you’re feeling whiney today – big hugs for you!!! And thank you for all your hard work! You need a vacay – come up to Idaho and we’ll hit Yellowstone and then Jackson Hole… loves ya!

Good heavens! This really is one of those “when it rains, it pours” times. Ugh. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to both you and dad…and find a GOOD lawyer for the rest. Been there, done that, have the battle scars to prove it.

    *hugs*

*starts praying they sell out before they raise the limit to 2*

I really have to behave, and I’ve been so good. A friend even offered to grab a second for me, and I managed to turn that offer down…but I’ll have a harder time doing that twice! LOL

Kudos to Susie and the crew–process went very smoothly compared to the uni frenzy!

in reply to: Frustration Scream Thread! #874318

My frustration of the day really is based around falling just short, regardless how hard I try…

    *hugs*

I think most of us get that one. I’ve started setting really tiny goals that at least show me some progress–otherwise I get discouraged and give up.

My scream of the day is aimed at the medical community.

I AM NOT A GUINEA PIG. I AM NOT YOUR NEXT MEDICAL JOURNAL ARTICLE. QUIT EXPERIMENTING ON ME JUST BECAUSE I HAVE SOMETHING LESS COMMON THAN YOU USUALLY SEE.

And if you can’t fecking give me my old life back, then just say so and let’s move on. Show me what my new world is going to look like and let’s work to stabilize at that level instead. Because 4 years into this process, we’ve barely made any progress, and it’s getting really old.

*off to take the next batch of however many pills…*

I’d like to know too! 😀

LOLOL–OK, that gave me the best laugh of the day so far!

(I’m wearing my “Feeling stabby” tshirt today that hubby gave me as a birthday present last night, so believe me, I get the mood of the day! Think I’ll go kill off a fictional character or two to blow off some steam!) 🙂

I understand both points of view–but realistically, most of us aren’t ever going to be able to afford everything we want in life. The world is unfair that way. This may very well be my last GB, because I simply have to prioritize my money differently with other things going on. Should Melody’s business suffer because *I* can’t afford what she makes? Should her work be devalued because *I* no longer have the freedom to spend on a luxury? And let’s face it, these ARE a luxury. It’s not like I can feed my pets or pay my mortgage with the lap dragon on my desk–and in fact, if I don’t plan appropriately, I could easily be unable to do either of those things because I overspent all my cash on Windstones. I’m in the “comfortable but not independently wealthy” category, and I’d wager quite a few of us here are the same. We’re never going to have the massive collections that some do. And sometimes we’re either going to have to choose between missing out on things because they’re not in our price range, or sacrifice something else to make it happen if it’s something that’s truly important to us.

Many many many hours (not just Melody’s) and plenty of materials (that never go down in price, and typically go up) go into producing these things. While yes, it will suck for me personally not to be able to play GB roulette every release, and buy every LP in the store, etc., when you’re in the business of producing a non-necessity of life, basing your pricing on those who can afford it the least is no way to run a business. And frankly, the early grab bags–which I was not around to take advantage of–were pretty dramatically underpriced in my opinion. Look at the prices they command now on the secondary market–and that “profit” people are making doesn’t always end up spent on more Windstones, so that’s not profit to the business or the artist–and tell me honestly how the prices originally charged were fair. Those of you who were able to get in on those should count yourselves very lucky.

Now, if it comes to a point where a GB doesn’t sell out on the first day, perhaps that’s a sign the price is too high. But I suspect the price would have to get a fair bit higher before that happens.

Just my .02 worth…which nowadays is pretty much worthless. 😉

    Sounds great, Melody! Can’t wait!

in reply to: February raffle? #874267

Squeeeeeeek….this may be my only way to get anything other than Production pieces so………..:) 🙂

hee hee I agree! this is my only way to get anything other than a PYO =P

I too would love to see a dragon though, I’m holding out for a dragon raffle! Preferably a male dragon, I love their design

OH YA…I got my first male about a week ago and I gotta say….HANDSOME DEVIL!! 🙂 I am loving the look of him and I also am so in love with the OW.
2 new men in my life and I am now spreading the attention between them and my hubby!!! LOLOL 🙂

The males were my favorite sculpt forever–I saw my first one in ’88 or so. And my CP male is handsome, but boy, does he ever have some attitude! They definitely look like they’re doing some ego posturing from certain directions, and looking down their nose at you when you face them head on. Definitely a character.

But when I saw the Lap, I truly fell in love. Just the tiny hint of a smirk, the slight tilt of the head…she’s clearly an utterly shameless flirt!

I think Melody did a male in the December raffle, and of course Hot Dog was January’s. Looking at all the past raffles, it might be a bit before we see another male, I’m thinking. Then again, who knows what’s lying around the studio? 🙂

It’s a whine kind of day, hon. Either area would work fine, I’m sure!

I would tend to agree with Kiya that you’re better off waiting if you are buying strictly as trading fodder. The poads don’t seem quite as popular as the unis–just look at the numbers: the livestreams had fewer attendees, and the number of people “hovering” on the site today waiting for the release was right around 130 all day. By contrast, the day of the CandyCorns release, the average was over 200, and I think the highest spike I saw was around 260. That’s just plain a lot more people interested in unis.

I’m in on this one not to trade for something else, but because I’ve had an attachment to hand sized birds (and bird-like things) forever, so it fits me. But if I were looking for something to trade or use as a sweetener in a trade for a larger piece, this probably wouldn’t be it.

in reply to: What's being painted for the store? #874230

I’m a bit curious on this as well. I’d like certain sculpts in certain previous LP colors, but have no way to know if I need to do some wheeling and dealing to get my hands on them, or if a bit of patience will see them returned to the store in a month or three. It would definitely help with planning for those on a budget.
