We don’t have any furry animals, so why the heck do we have fleas in the house?!? To make matters worse they seem to be concentrating in my toddler’s playpen that he sleeps in. Poor boy. He started hollering so bad last night after we laid him down to go to sleep. When we looked at the legs and the back of his head they were so red and irritated.

If it’s possible, I recommend flea bombs/foggers. When I lived with my mom, sometimes we’d get heavy flea infestations (we had indoor/outdoor cats). After using some flea bombs, no more fleas. They work quite well. But if you don’t like to use insecticides, I don’t know what to suggest. But also, my sympathies. They make my skin crawl and are extremely annoying pests.

Are you sure they are fleas and not bed bugs or anything? Did you bring anything used into the house like bedding or toys or clothes? Or were you out in any park or woods areas where things could have traveled home with you on clothing or blankets?

We know they are fleas because we have caught several of theme on us. Nothing new/used has come into the house. We live on a state park so lots of woods, but we don’t spend much time outside.

Maybe they were brought in by field mice or something? That is what we thought was the culprit when we got fleas while living in California. We didn’t have any pets, but mice would get into the house. Not sure what my mom did back then, but more recently (as in two or three years ago), I ended up with fleas in my room from a package I received. I killed them with a mix of salt and borax.

We haven’t seen any signs of mice in two years (since we plugged up all the holes near pipes with plumber’s foam). We suspect the stray momma cat and kitten have a hidey hole under our house.

Someone on another forum recommended spraying with a 1:1 Dawn dish detergent and vinegar mix. That seems to be working, as my toddler was able to sleep undisturbed in his playpen for several hours last night. I ended up getting him out partway though the night because I think there were still some fumes (not bad, but probably not the best either) making him cough.

We’ll keep treating with that along with washing cloth and vacuuming upholstery for a bit longer.

That’s another reason it was so odd that we had fleas. We don’t have carpets. We have hard floors.

According to my vet, its not unusual for the fleas to come in on your shoes. They can get picked from your lawn and probably were originally from your wild cat and her kittens. You can spray the yard and continue treating your house in a nontoxic manner. If you are feeding the mother cat, I’ve heard that garlic powder can help dogs with fleas (It repels them) You could check the internet and see if that will work for cats as well as dogs (also get an idea on the dosage) Good luck.

I’ve had flea issues in the past from things like trees being dug up and things like that too. I don’t know if they lay dormant or something, but when our neighbor had his tree uprooted a few years ago we got a massive infestation in our basement. (nothing down there, but laundry machines and lots of dirt! Every time we did laundry they would jump on our ankles! We had to wear tube socks to do laundry. At the risk of bringing them upstairs to our apartment we evacuated the animals for a day and had Terminex come down and bomb the entire house.

Fleas can survive in pupae form for up to a year or so. So yes, they can lay dormant before becoming adult fleas.

Passed a quarry truck going the opposite way on the way to work this morning. He chucked a big rock out of his trailer and it hit my windshield. Pretty sure I need a new windshield now, ain’t no patching gonna fix this one. Truck went by so fast all I can say was it was blue. No company name or anything.

Waiting for my insurance agent to call back so I can see if any of it will be covered or if I’m gonna have to pay out of pocket.

And I was in such a good mood on the way to work this morning too.

Yeah, me too. It could have been a lot worse, like going through the windshield, but it didn’t. Getting it replaced Friday morning to the tune of my $250 deductible. I had to ask the lady at the glass place how much it would have cost if I hadn’t turned in a claim, curious as to whether or not my insurance was only going to pay $50 or so after my deductible, but turns out windshields for Mustangs are steep. She said it was going to be over $500.

Hoping I don’t have to call my insurance agent again for quite some time.

So, I have been craving pizza like all day, you know it was just one of those days today. So, laundry2011 and I ordered pizza from dominoes and she got this pan crust pizza that is totally amazing and mouthwatering looking. So I went to te kitchen to see my thin crust and I opened the box to this:

This is quite possibly the most depressing pizza I have ever layed my eyes on. It looks like they ate half and then sliced the rest in to cardboard flavored chunks for little kids. It litteraly tastes like cardboard and is dried out like it had been sitting all afternoon. like really? 🙁 😥

(i know pathtic to whine about but…)
