August 2, 2017 at 5:54 pm #1528419Melody, don’t feel overwhelmed by it.
Not all kickstarters are complicated. If you only offer a handful of reward tiers then it will go smooth as silk.
Kickstarter does keep track of who pledges money, which tier they pledge and how much.
The backer kit is nice in case you do “add ons”.
For example.
Lets say you offer 5 reward tiers.
$1 tier is for people who just want to support you.
$50 tier for a copy of your book.
$300 tier for a Poad and a copy of your book.
$500 tier for a Poad, a hand made sketch from you of something from the comic and a signed copy of your book.
$1000 for something extra awesome along with a Poad, a hand made sketch from you of something from the comic and a signed copy of your book.
So those are the 5 choices people can choose in order to back your kickstarter.
Now let’s say you offer a copy of your book as an add on. To get a copy of your book as an add on the backer must pay $50 for it.
Lets say I want 3 copies of your book. I also want a Poad.
To so this I will back the $300 tier. I will then choose the option to alter my pledge amount. I will then alter it to $400. It will not ask me why at this point. All it knows is that I am currently backing the $300 reward tier and I have chosen to pay $400 instead of $300.
When everything ends that is when I will specify what the extra $100 is for.
The backer kit will show up for me backing the $300 tier and it will ask me what I want to do with the extra $100. It will then provide me with a menu of whatever add on items were available in the kickstarter. I can then choose $100 worth of add on items to allocate the extra $100 that I added onto my pledge amount while the kickstarter was active.
In this example I would choose 2 extra copies of the book.
After all my money has been assigned then the backerkit survey will be submitted and you will receive the data.
This way you will receive a correct number of what products everyone has purchased so you can order the right amount.
You can include as many add on items as you please and we the buyers can chose whether or not we want to buy them or not.
Keep in mind that stretch goals and add ons are different.
Add ons are merchendise or perks that we the buyers pay extra for if we want to add them onto our base pledge.
Stretch goals are things that you the seller decide to add to our pledges for free when we hit certain milestones for amount of money pledged.
For example. If your goal is $100,000 and after a few days we make it to $150,000. You can chose to implement a stretch goal where we all receive a Poad sticker. Or a special book mark. Or something that all backers will recieve for free with our pledge.
Lets say we then hit $200,000. We get the 1st stretch goal and now a second stretch goal. Maybe you decide to make the book cover fancier now that you have twice as much money. Or maybe everyone gets a Tadpoad. You choose.
Just make sure you know that whatever stretch goal you choose is a free thing for the backers.
I’ve spent $1000’s of dollars on kickstarters over the years. If you have any extra questions i’de love to help if I can 🙂
I think your kickstarter will be a hit 🙂 keep it up!

August 2, 2017 at 8:32 pm #1528424I agree with Courtney and she gives an excellent description and example of how a Kickstarter campaign can work
It’s not that bad or overwelming after you decide the initial Tiers, and if there are Add-ons and/or any Stretch Goals. Then the Backers simply need to figure out what they want – I believe that is harder to do in my opinion.
The Veligent Kickstarter is going to be Great! Are you getting close to deciding upon a start date?

For most individuals doing this out of their homes, this is really the worst part. You are way step ahead on this since you have an actual factory with a shipping department!

Gad, this project is taking fricking forever!Other artists who publish sketch books have tons of great character sheets and costume designs to show…I have hardly any of that. This sketchbook is mostly full of plants, animals and backgrounds.”

Oh I know, this is taking forever to get going! I had no idea planning a kickstarter would take so long. We are working on the video right now (That’s the hardest part!), once THAT major hurdle is past, things will really start happening!

*** Come visit me on deviantArt at http://ela-hara.deviantart.comSeptember 26, 2017 at 2:31 pm #1530197I am just now starting the lessons on “rewards”. It is a big section of the kickstarter class I am taking, so I will eventually get a handle on all of this…I hope! It does seem like it could get really complicated!
Hee Hee, wait until you have all those Backer surveys to work through when all the pledging and the campaign is done and the compiling and shipping begins! I backed the Gryphon Pride Kickstarter over a year ago, and trying to remember my asks and Add-ons requests was a feat for me as a Backer when I was filling out my Survey. And that was my first experience in backing a Kickstarter. I can just imagine trying to keep everything straight as the Organizer. I’m sure you’ll do fine with the shipping help you will hopefully receive from Ms.Susie & Team!
The person running the Kickstarter class I am taking STRONGLY suggests using a extra service called “Backerkit” to keep track of addons.
I am placing different tier rewards on my kickstarter page now, and wow, I could end up with too many tiers! Way too many, with all the different combinations of things. It seems as if addons might be the best way to handle this.
