I agree

Yes and no. When something is named “Emperor” it is clearly being stated as male. “The male sovereign or supreme ruler of an empire”. So with that name, no matter his color, he’s male.
Likewise, the “mother” dragon clearly is being called a female… so if I paint one black does that mean I can call him a he because he looks more masculine in a dark color? Personally, I don’t think so. The artist stated the intended gender.
I’m not going to get into a fight over this… but… Melody has stated his gender just by his title. Some of the sculpts are iffy on the gender unless you read Melody’s descriptions… but with things like an Emperor, Male, or mother… you can’t very well call them otherwise. I bet you all would jump my case if I said “Look I bought a new dragon *shows photo of mother dragon* He looks so cool and I love him.”… I know you all would hop my case and be “hey it’s female”.
August 30, 2008 at 11:18 pm #686972My my Kyrin, your Pink Emp is astoundingly beautiful! My broken Emperor is jealous…and feeling strange feelings towards this pink dragon….I’ll try to keep him at bay 😯

Hnn. What’s this “you all” stuff? Personally, I wouldn’t jump your case if you wanted to call the mother dragon sculpt a he. You wouldn’t even have to paint it black. I barely say ANYTHING on this forum compared to some (this uptight air being one of the reasons), but I’m not going to back down on that if you paid money for it, it’s yours, and you can call it whatever you darn well want. Most people *wouldn’t* (on here), of course, to avoid confusing newbies to the forum and/or collecting, but…outside of here? Who cares? I like to think of the Secret Keeper as a male, and could care less that it’s OFFICIALLY a female. If I ever buy one, I’m going to give it a boy’s name!
So, my point was, if whoever owns Pinky wants to call the thing a female, and ignore the official “Emperor” title, let them. o.O; I’m pretty sure everyone who said “she” in reference to this dragon, in this thread, knows Melody intended the Emperor sculpt to be male, anyways. They just want to call this one something else. So what? Just go back a few pages, read the whole thing, and it’ll be obvious what’s going on. It’s also pretty doubtful anyone new is going to read this particular thread and get confused, and if they did, all it takes is one line (with a smile, because this is the internet and they can’t tell you aren’t biting their head off from text!) to fix.
Really, just relax. Somehow I knew that one of you would find some reason to snap on me about what I said, but I was just trying to stop anyone else from harping on Kyrin and the rest about wanting to call Pinky there a girl.
August 31, 2008 at 5:49 am #686974Really guys…this whole debate about the gender of this sculpture is silly. Who really cares??? It’s a sculpture of a mythological creature, for all we know it could be a neuter!
I don’t know why everyone is getting so riled up about a title…whoopee…Emperor, Empress…why is it such a big deal?? It’s trivia…get over it already! Sheesh!
Sorry if I offend anyone, but this whole argument, etc. is just getting ridiculous.
I suggest we drop this subject and go back to why I opened this thread in the first place.
An update on REPAIRS will be posted tomorrow…I would appreciate no further comments about gender of sculpts be argued about here, open a new thread if you want to have a debate about that. Thanks.

I just saw this and um… it IS a little ridiculous to be fighting over… beautiful paint job by the way.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing your repairs Kyrin! 😀 I’m sure they are going to be wonderful!

Edit: Or if you want to share, maybe post them elsewhere. If you want to PM me I can explain.I did mention I wouldn’t be keeping it up for long, so I guess this is now the time to take it down.
Your Orchid fledge sure looks green to me on the paws, so what color is that??
Kyrin
There are no green at all on the Orchid Shell dragons. 🙂
Maybe you are thinking of the Crocus fledge I did?

Actually, on here, I’ve called a sculpt a gender and had people be “No it’s this!”… and I’ve seen that happened to others as well.
When I said “you all” I wasn’t talking about you specifically. No need to get angry about it.And no one snapped at you. I don’t believe any of the comments were directed to you at all. They were all general statements, and our opinions/thoughts. It actually really surprised me when you said you had a feeling someone would snap at you. So as you said, “relax”?
August 31, 2008 at 4:37 pm #686978Oh I LOVE those Orchid Shell Dragons so much!!! Will you ever make more, do you think, Jennifer?

You’ve done several purple/pink based dragons, so i get them mixed up.
Anyway…I won’t post any repaints I might do on the forum in future, just to save you the grief of worrying you might end up with the same concept and have to abort it.
Thing is, as long as there are PYO’s there will always be the possibility that someone has thought of the color scheme ahead of you…but your painting style is so unique that I really doubt that what you paint would be too close to what anyone else has done, even using the same colors.
Anyway, I will do what I can to make it easier for you.

August 31, 2008 at 6:35 pm #686980Kyrin, I have a few repaints I have done myself… even a few in progress that kill me not to share with everyone because I’m just as proud as a peacock about them… but they’re painted to just be my personal treasures and nothing more, but to keep Windstone at ease I just keep them to myself. You never know if Jennifer or Olimpia is currently painting something similar by coincidence, or if someday, somehow, photos or pieces may be misrepresented is a way that would bite Windstone in the behind down the road. It stinks, but it’s really the only way to not step on anyones toes. 😉

I’ve got some things I’d love to say in reply to that, but…for the sake of peace, nevermind.

Yes, but the PYOs are a totally separate line… It is complicated. 😆 Actually we’ve been lucky with this in regards to PYOs so far, and have only had one problem that I know about.

Yeah, mostly when you get this many artists together, eventually someone is going to think of the same kind of thing at the same time. Great minds think alike and all that.
There are so many colors out there though, and even if something is similar, it’s hard for anything to be identical unless it is done by the same person.
Like I said, if I do any more repaints, I will keep the images restricted to a small group outside of the forum.
