The base color on both ruby and RF are about the same, but I think RF is a definite improvement: No pink. 😛

The red flame is what ruby should have been in my opinion. Both are beautiful, but the red flame is much more refined and isn’t as monochromatic as the original ruby. I look at this color and think, “fire ruby”. I cant wait to get one! 😀 Now all I need is some $$…. 😆 😆

I think they’re both named appropriately. Like frozen said somewhere: Rubies tend to have pink in them.

True! That’s why I’ve always preferred garnet, it’s a much deeper, truer red. 😀

I like the garnet color too…but my birthstone is Ruby….

for my senior ring I picked out one of the darkest rubies….it’s manufactured..but still very pretty….

the real ones looked like a strawberry milk shake…blah….

My birthstone is the peridot. I loooove my momma wolf griffin with her peridot colored stones! Opals are my all time favorite stone though, along with ammolite. 😀

My birthstone is also Ruby and my senior ring got stolen about 20 years ago

My birthstone is a garnet. Lucky me – no pink there either.

All this talk about birthstones made me curious. So I looked for mine… and I have a… pearl? 😯 And apparently, the alternative for a pearl is the moonstone. Since when do birthstones have alternatives?

And to think, the white (pearl?) dragons are my most hated. Bah.

There are alternative birthstones? In case you don’t like the traditional one or what?

October’s Opal is almost always replaced with it’s “alternate” of Pink/Rose Quartz, or aparently now on the Net they say it’s Pink Tourmaline?(What the hell have my family been buying me since I’ve been born? it always says Rose Qurtz, even the GD Barbies???:? ). EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Any wonder why I have so few Birthstone things?

With my class ring I got garnet, just because I like it! I really didn’t care about birthstones at the time. 😀

Mine’s the same as Kujacker’s. It could also be an alexandrite. Those are cool, but VERY expensive. They change color in different types of lighting.
