I did get a headache painting all those stripes. Had to do them in one hour stretches. Fortunately for me it’s a color I don’t have to remix everytime.
I haven’t decided if I’m going to add more color or not. I’m planning on antiquing the hands and beak with a slightly darker yellow orange. I am considering going over at least the feathers with the pearl ex interference blue powder that I have to give it a subtle shimmer (Griffin has medium blue eyes).
I tried to be neat with the banding stripes, but looking at the pictures I can see some of them got a little sloppy. Why is it that you can’t see the sloppy on the sculpt in person, but when you look at pictures you can see it then?
February 25, 2008 at 7:12 pm #596146the sloppy will go away once you antique it….and add whatever color…
it makes it look more natural….
February 25, 2008 at 7:16 pm #596147The Griffin is looking good so far. I look forward to seeing it finished.
February 25, 2008 at 7:57 pm #596148I like how the griffin is starting to look. Love the stripes. I eagerly await a finished picture!!
February 25, 2008 at 8:41 pm #596149They NEVER look as good in pics as they do in person! Your griff is an eyecatcher with all those stripes. 😀

March 11, 2008 at 11:50 pm #596151Presenting the March Birthstone Kirin – Aquamarine #1!

My camera did a number on the scale color so I’ve included another shot that is a little more accurate on the color. It’s hard to tell, but he was painted in white and then antiqued with winter white. Will be up for offers in the flea market shortly.
March 11, 2008 at 11:51 pm #596152Ooooo love that new Ki-Rin. He looks great 😀
March 11, 2008 at 11:58 pm #596153Wow, that’s beautiful! Makes me want a Kirin to paint.
March 12, 2008 at 1:16 am #596154She’s so sweet! The white fur really makes her colors pop!
March 12, 2008 at 1:21 am #596155What a beauty!!!! 😀
March 12, 2008 at 2:33 am #596156Beautiful!
March 12, 2008 at 3:32 am #596157Thanks everyone. Aquamarine was fun to paint, even if the paint color started out a little wrong for the eyes. It was too green. I had to add some blue to it, but you can still see the hints of green through the blue.
March 12, 2008 at 3:50 am #596158March 12, 2008 at 4:09 am #596159I love the blue and white! Maybe consider adding some flesh color to the muzzle and maybe eyelids?
Still very pretty color combination! -
