You guys are so sweet, I’m so happy that this kitty seems so well liked. I already have lots of ideas for me sushi cats in the future, hopefully they turn out as nice as this one.

My grandma has also been following the progress of this cat, I’d text her pics every time I hit a new point in the process, and she’s coming over next week for a visit and she say’s she’s really excited to see the cat in person. She’s probably the biggest fan of my painting and crafts projects, so I’m always happy to show off to her :3

I think matte might look nice.  Except for the eyes, nose and tongue.  Those might be better served by gloss or satin.  Lovely work on the sushi cat.  Your blending is always so nice.

Beautiful! And I have to add my compliments on the flowers on the robe. Gorgeous.

            Some truly gifted painters here.

Aren’t grandparents fantastic cheerleaders? (Forum members are too, it seem! 😉 )

I keep oils around, but I’m not sure how nicely oils play with with gypsum, and if I’d need a base. I can always use more supplies, though 😉 Have you all seen that meme, that said purchasing craft supplies is a hobby on its own? That’s me xD

From everything I have read, oils and gypsum don’t get along.  The gypsum need to be able to “breathe”.  Oils should be OK for small detail areas.  Acryllics, watercolors, pastels, tea-staining, and probably some other things I’m forgetting have all been used successfully for Windstone PYOs.

People who actually paint PYOs (as opposed to reading about it) say that a base is optional.  You can paint without one, but it will take more layers of colors because the gypsum absorbs the paint.

I think depending on your painting style a base layer is kind of optional. For example, I’m a super messy painter who generally starts painting one color scheme and ends up painting something entirely different, so I end up painting a ton of layers anyway, so I don’t really feel like a primer does much for me. I rarely know what I’m going to end up with when I first start painting a PYO, it’s a journey of indecision and changes lol xD

Thanks for all the help, as per usual! I’m chock full of questions, and you are all very patient with me!

Tea staining… now, that sounds interesting! ;O

Yes ask away!  And please post pics of your creations 😊  My first pyo hipp I gave to my mom and I only started with 4 paint colors to try it out.  Now I am a paint hoarder and my paints have improved over time. Just takes practice, give it a go 😉

Just wanted to share the kitty now that it’s been glossified, though it’s hard to tell in this lighting. Plus I added a sparkly filter for funzies 😉 Also, I’ve added a gallery for Sushi cats, of course there’s only pics of this one for now but eventually I hope to add more cats to the gallery!

Kitty will be headed to it’s new home next week!

Landipan, this is amazing.  No amount of complimenting from me is going to do it justice.  You’re such a fantastic artist!

I just want to add that photos do NOT do the kitty any justice at all. He is simply stunning in person. There really isn’t any way to describe how he looks in person!
