September 19, 2018 at 1:05 pm #1542929Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! Our town of Havelock suffered greatly. 4 tornadoes in our neighborhood which took down hundreds of trees but our house was saved. A few shingles came off. My husband returned to the military base but said it looks like a war zone. It’s surreal seeing your town on the news under water and destroyed. I will be headed back on Sunday. We would have struggled without my parents generosity. Our own personal hurricane of 5 children, 1 guinea pig and 1 cat hit their little home for almost 2 weeks. Thank you all again for your thoughts, we are safe and sound!

Its so mentally and physically exhausting going through an event like this. It really makes you think about your family, belongings and being prepared for anything. I feel for all those who can’t return home because of flooding. And the several weeks of repair. So many need help financially and in physical labor. We are so blessed that our house wasnt damaged more.

Virginia got flooding and trees down. Presumably the Carolinas have as bad or worse.
From a Washington POST article this morning: Five people are dead in Virginia in incidents related to the remnants of Hurricane Michael, which also left more than half a million people without power and more than 1,200 roads in the state flooded or shut down, officials said.
October 12, 2018 at 9:31 am #1543620Jeez…Mother Nature in her fury can be brutal.A man died here from a tree falling on him.I saw a tree fall on a home and split it in half. The tree fell in slow motion. That was a surreal thing to watch.May your loved ones all be safe.

Hey Mimi! Thanks for asking! Yes – I spoke to my Mom on Friday and my Aunt/Uncle and cousins are all okay. They had left and went to Orlando to get out of Michael’s way. At the time my Mom spoke to my Uncle they were on their way back to Tallahassee but had reports from neighbors that the houses seemed to be okay and there were only lots of trees down. Haven’t heard specifically about their house, but hopefully everything is good.
