Congrats!!! I hope I can be in your court soon because I have a job interview for the 15th of March as a book keeper! It is rare for me to even get interviewed, so I am excited (I will even wear makeup! lol) I am so glad you got a job!!
I think that good luck comes in batches…. so I think this’ll turn out well for you! 😉
Knock ’em dead! I pray that you and the other looking forum member (who just had an interview, ladyfirebird, maybe?), find a job that pays enough to live in this economy! And if you love working there, all the better! 😀

Boy, I do hope you are right about that! 8)
March 9, 2010 at 1:37 am #787096What the heck!!!!!!!
I get one job, and 4 days later I’m getting called for another interview! Thing is, is that I don’t want to screw over the company I’m working for…. unless the other company really makes it worth it (like say, $5/hour more kind of worth it). $5/hour doesn’t sound like much, but that ALONE would pay for my Lantus insulin (which is around $600/box and I have to buy a box once every 2 months or so – and it isn’t covered by my insurance).
Oh, and quitting WOULD seriously screw over my company. To the point of I’m the only one they have to do this job I have as of Thursday.
Gah, why can’t things be simple again? And not to mention that I’d have to have either an after work interview, or one that’s on a weekend to not raise any suspicions at my current work (that’s already being paranoid because I said something that was misinterpreted at work…).
🙄 🙄 🙄I really like this job too. But the other one is more in my field, AND has the potential to pay a lot more ($13/hour for what I’m doing is honestly crap).
March 9, 2010 at 2:15 am #787097Don’t ya hate it when that happens!? 😉
You need to do what’s best for you and that’s the hard part.March 9, 2010 at 3:21 am #787098Laurie wrote:Don’t ya hate it when that happens!? 😉
You need to do what’s best for you and that’s the hard part.I know. But I do feel bad… I suppose that makes me still human. But for $5/hour more… I’d do it. I’d consider for $3, but 5 would be an insta-sell.
Now to somehow schedule it around work without raising suspicions, I don’t wanna get fired because I was keeping my options open. Then I could REALLY be out a job.
March 9, 2010 at 3:22 am #787099oh yikes! nothing like second guessing it. this actually happened to me.. i accepted a job (which i thought was my dream job) and two weeks later i hear back from another job i applied for (a much higher position, much more $$ at a very prestigious university). i just didn’t have the heart to let down the new company after i fought so hard to get it. but, i do wish i could have interviewed…. just to see.
but here’s my thoughts.. be true to yourself and don’t feel pressured by someone else. go for the interview! you’ll wish you had. just see what it brings. you can always turn them down 🙂
March 9, 2010 at 3:59 am #787100I’d figure out a way to interview and at least SEE what they are offering
Your new job shoudl have some sort of back up plan anyway in case you ever call in sick or something
You should NEVER feel bad about bettering yourself or your careerMarch 9, 2010 at 4:04 am #787101hmmm… How are raises given out at your current job?? Is there an introductory peroid before they give you a raise? Will you automatically get one after “X” amount of time?
If you really like this job, this may be something to consider. I would hate to go to another job, only to find out it sucks… even if it was for more pay… when a raise could be around the corner.
Our company has a 3 month waiting period. Just something to think about. 🙂
March 9, 2010 at 6:39 am #787102Oh my, talk about a complication! What is the other job, if you don’t mind my asking?
March 9, 2010 at 11:05 am #787103Glad you were able to get a job in this horrible economy. My roommate had to deal with the interview situation. She was already working for 2 weeks when the job she really wanted called her for an interview. Needless to say she was not happy. We went out to eat that night to cheer her up.
March 9, 2010 at 3:01 pm #787104I’d go to the interview. You can schedule it anytime, really. If you’re paid by the hour, then you won’t be paid for the time you were away at the interview, so you’re not screwing the company over. Just say you have an appointment.
Now, as far as being true to the company… I was laid off after 7 years, yet I did a lot of stuff there to make things run smoothly! So you don’t “owe” them, really. If this other job is better for your long-term career and if on top, they pay more, go for it.
At least go to the interview. If you don’t, you’ll be wondering “what if?” for a long, long time.

Wages are reviewed after 1 year. So I don’t have a hope of getting a raise until next March. And even then it’s not a given… and it’s not a given how much either, the girl I’m replacing has worked there for 2 years and makes $16/hour. While another has worked 3 years and makes $20/hour, with the same starting wage.GreaterBasilisk wrote:Oh my, talk about a complication! What is the other job, if you don’t mind my asking?
The other job is as an ICP lab tech at an Edmonton company. That’s all I know it’s through a recruitment firm.
And DM, no they don’t have a replacement for me. I am the replacement for another girl – they were desperate, which is why I got hired so quickly for something not entirely in my field. 🙄
I’ll go if I can schedule around it. But I don’t get days off right now, or time off…. I’ve already asked for an appointment on the 27th of May and she was unhappy about that.
March 9, 2010 at 10:01 pm #787106If they’re frowning on you needing time off, then most def go to that other interview! To me, this doesn’t bode well…

good point there!
March 10, 2010 at 12:22 am #787108If there’s little chance for a good raise, then yes, I’d definitely go.
