Well, the damage seems repairable. Just go one piece at a time.
And I would go for solid wood shelving/cabinets…
HUGS!

I am so sorry this happened to you 🙁 I have my Windstones on a bookshelf and I constantly fear something like this – I’ve asked my mother at least twice if she thinks the shelves will hold. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do here collectively on the forums! I’m not good at repairing things myself, but I wouldn’t be against giving a broken piece a home if you want to try to raise money for a new start on your collection.
*hugs*

January 31, 2011 at 8:23 pm #836816Yea, I’m surprised they’re not worse actually, but some can definately be repaired. Considering the situation, it could have been much worse, but it still sucks horrendiously.

January 31, 2011 at 9:32 pm #836818OH! 🙁 Drgnlvr, I am so sorry; what a horrible thing. This is one of my personal nightmares too, and it makes me want to curl up, seeing it actually happen to you.
It sounds as if you have already gotten the worst of the cleanup and reorganizing done, but if you need an extra set of hands for sorting-out and triage, please let me know.
I am praying that the insurance company will come through for you. I don’t suppose there was a minor quake recorded on the monitoring stations in your area? If the metal brace was marginal, it wouldn’t have taken much of a shock to make it twist along a hidden flaw. We get little shakers all the time in this state and most of the time we don’t even feel them, but the monitors pick them up.
February 1, 2011 at 8:10 pm #836819This is the first I’ve seen this post; I am so sorry, Drgnlvr, you are in my prayers. *hug* I know how just having a couple broken made me feel, I can’t imagine a whole unit of them.
February 2, 2011 at 2:58 pm #836820Just saw this post as well. I’m so sorry. I felt sick when I saw the pics. I can only imagine how you feel. On the brighter side it seems that so many people here are willing to help with the repairs and your insurance could pick up the cost for you. Gratefully, you weren’t hurt physically when this happened. If it were me, I’d consider taking the remainder of my collection out of those cases just incase the stress of the weight is too much on those supports. Wishing the very best for you. Keep us posted!
