I am still having words disappear from posts. They are clearly there when I type, but not when it actually posts. It is almost always just one word. Weird.
This is really a mystery. It’s happened to me a couple of times too, and I can’t find any rhyme or reason to it. I’ve also searched the WordPress forums and haven’t found anyone else who’s had this issue. Still working on this one.
Is anyone else experiencing difficulty posting on some of the threads? I am logged on, or I would be able to post here, but when i visit the GBB show off thread, and try to post, I get “you must be logged on to post a reply” … But I can post here? I think the new forum is haunted! ?
That’s really strange. My first guess is that at some point you visited that thread while not logged in, and now your browser is loading the page from cache so it thinks you’re not logged in. Can you try reloading (refreshing) the page next time that happens, and see if that fixes it? If it doesn’t, contact me and let me know what browser you’re using and what type of device, and I’ll look into it. Thanks.
Hello! After trying to post a new Classifieds ad a couple of days ago, I also received an ‘e-mail verification’ message. I have not received any e-mail with a verification link, and can find no trace of the ad in the deactivated section or anywhere else. If it’s waiting for approval somewhere, any way to get it posted?
I’ve posted several ads with no problems, but then on the last one got the e-mail verification message. Do some ads just get randomly flagged for verification or is there something about the ad itself that requires the extra step?
Many thanks for the help!
I enabled it for you. I am working on this problem of “verification” emails to prevent this this from happening. Stay tuned.
I just realized 12 of my 14 ads are disabled. Is there not a way we can enable them ourselves? Does that mean they expired or what does disabled mean?
Looking at those 12 ads, I see that they all expired on 8/15. That means that on 8/12 you should have received emails notifying you that the ads would expire in 3 days and including a link to renew them. Maybe those emails ended up in a spam folder, or didn’t get through to you for some reason. By default, clicking the “renew” link in the email is the only way to renew them. I am looking into making ads renewable by some other method, but for now I can renew them for you. Do you want all 12 to be renewed?
I’m trying to place an ad, no different from my last ad, and am getting the error message: Your Ad was flagged as Spam. Please contact the administrator of this site.
I was using HTML from photobucket, as has worked with my last several ads. Please help! Thanks.
I didn’t see it in our “flagged” list, but I did see one of yours in the “incomplete” list. I enabled it. Let me know if that’s not the one you’re talking about.
Hi Clay, I updated an old ad with my new content, but it’s sitting out there as “disabled”. Can you please enable this ad for me? Thanks
It’s renewed now.
Just noticed on the store page if you click on Dragons and look at each type you will not see Mother Coiled, Moon, Sun, Rising Spectral, Young Oriental. But if you scroll down to see each type as listed in alphabetical listings you will find those dragons.
That’s right, Mike. The dragons you mentioned are not categories unto themselves. Mother Coiled dragons are included in the Coiled Dragons category. Moon, Sun, and Young Oriental are all included in the Oriental Dragons category, and Rising Spectral is part of the Spectral Dragons category.
About Renewing Classified Ads
I posted a test ad, using a normal subscriber account (not an admin account), and this is what I learned:
“Updating” an ad is not the same as “renewing” an ad. If you edit one of your ads you will get an email stating that the ad has been updated; but if the ad was expired before you edited it, it will still be expired. “Updated” simply means that you edited the ad. As far as I can tell, the only way to renew an ad is to click the “renew” link in the email you get telling you that your ad is about to expire. But here’s the trick…
If you are logged into the site when you click that “renew” link, your ad will be renewed. If, on the other hand, clicking the link takes you to the login page, go ahead and log in. THEN CLICK THE LINK IN THE EMAIL AGAIN, and your ad will be renewed.
Hi Clay! My ads are expired and in the disabled category…i logged in to update them and got an email stating they had been updated, but they are still disabled…
I renewed your ads. See my next post for more info about renewing ads.
Will we be able to sort the products (dragons, especially) by colour the way we did on the old forum? Also, the old forum let us sort by in stock and out of stock. I like the “newness” sort feature, but I’d like the other options, too.
Thanks
Yes, more options for viewing/sorting products are on the way. I just haven’t gotten to it yet.
TO users with aol.com email addresses:
Most (if not all) of our complaints from users about not receiving our emails have come from users with aol.com email addresses. I installed software that logs all of our outgoing email messages, and the mail log has confirmed my suspicion that the system is sending out all the emails that it’s supposed to, but they are not getting through to people using aol addresses. I will get this resolved with aol, but in the meantime if you need help with anything because of this issue, please contact us.
Yeah, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure what to do about the ads as well. I can edit them, but that doesn’t seem to help them get approval. One got approved somehow, but the others say they are inactive (only me and an admin can see them), and I don’t know how to activate them.
I renewed your ads for you. Please if you (or anyone else) have ads that are disabled/expired, and that you want enabled, contact me and I will take care of it. I’m still figuring out this system, which is a bit complicated because some issues seem to be temporary (due to the transition) and others may not be. Looking at your ads, I think the issue was that they expired before we shut the old site down for migration. It appears the only way for non-admin users to renew ads is to click the “renew” link in the email that gets sent to you 3 days before expiration. Since your ads were already expired, those emails were not sent.
Scathach,
I changed the category on that ad for you. The category is only editable by an admin because categories can be tied to different payment plans. A lot of classified sites charge users to post ads, depending on the category. So in order to prevent people from posting a free ad, and then changing the category to a paid one (but not paying), the system only allows admins to edit the category. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way for a free site to bypass this behavior, but I don’t expect that the need to change categories will come up a lot, so for now just contact Susie or me if you need this done.
The interface is a little different on a phone. That trick will only work on a computer.
Classifieds update:
I got some help from the developers of the classifieds plugin. Apparently there was a bug that was causing expired ads, when edited/renewed, to require admin approval. They say they have fixed that now, so hopefully any expired ads that you edit or renew from here on will be published right away without requiring approval. I have also revised the layouts of both the listings page and the individual ad pages a bit. Both of them now display the expiration date. Apparently the sorting issue on the listings page was that it was displaying the date that ads were originally posted, but sorting them by the date they were last renewed (don’t ask). So I have changed it to display the dates that ads were last renewed rather than the date they were originally posted (and it will still sort by that date as well).
I am still working on getting the “general” category (for sale, wanted, for trade) to display on the ads in addition to the subcategory (dragons, poads, etc.).
