Clay,
I use Firefox 51.0.1 on Windows 7, and the filtering drop-downs are white text on white background. Only the pale gray check boxes are visible. The forum search is white text on light gray, and very hard to read. This is almost certainly a caching issue. Firefox tends to cache stylesheets pretty aggressively. In fact, I just loaded the forum page in Firefox (for mac) and saw exactly what you described. But after reloading the page it looks fine. Please try reloading the page, and if it doesn’t look better, try clearing your cache by selecting “clear recent history” from the “history” menu. In the window that opens make sure the “cache” checkbox is selected and then click the “clear now” button. (The process may be slightly different in Windows.) The reload the page again. If this doesn’t solve the issue, please let me know and I will work on it for you. Thanks!
We added a new product filtering feature to the store, which lets people choose sort order, price range, product category, and/or color, as well as view only items that are in stock. But in the interest of keeping the page clutter to a minimum, I removed the “products per page” selector and set the number of products to a constant 32, which seems like a good all-purpose number. If that doesn’t work well for everyone we will revisit the issue and perhaps bring that feature back.
I will look into this. I found a patch that fixes the forum search (which had not been working), but evidently it messed with some stuff on the user profile pages.
YIKES!!!
WHA’ HAPPEN TO THE ADS????
All the embedded pictures and links have vanished! They are still there when I go to edit my ads, but they aren’t visible in the completed ads – mine or anyone else’s. Only the photos uploaded to this site show. This is fixed. Sorry for the temporary glitch.
OK, I know it’s frustrating, but please don’t panic. I just saw your first post about this. I know what’s going on and how to fix it. It will take me about 15 minutes. Stand by…
It’s mostly gone. The name of the seller now says Anonymous instead of 12, and the Spam posts have disappeared from the “Recent Topics”.
When you look at the Windstone Forum main page there still are links to those posts showing in Announcements, Repairs, General Art Discussion, Love Fuzzy, Non-Windstone Flea Market, and Swaps. At least one link is still active.
I’m not seeing those links. Did you try refreshing the page?
Thanks for reporting this. I deleted that account and I think I found all the topics that were created and deleted those too. Thanks also to Leah, who reported the issue as well.
Hi Kim,
I’ve looked through the ads and I’m not seeing the one you described. Can you tell me the exact title of the ad? Thanks.
ABOUT CLASSIFIED ADS AND THE EMAIL VERIFICATION MESSAGE
To the best of my knowledge, here’s what’s been happening:
Posting an ad SHOULD NOT require email verification. BUT there is a glitch in the system so that sometimes it IS requiring email verification. My only clue as to when it is required and when it isn’t is that tempest618 reported trying to post 4 ads, and the 3 that were edited in between the “preview” and “finish” stages asked for email verification, while the 4th one did not. I don’t know if other ads that have requested email verification were also edited like that or not (please report on this if you have any knowledge of it).
To my knowledge, no one has ever received a verification email in this situation (again, please let me know if you HAVE received a verification email at any point). So these ads end up in our “incomplete listings” queue. I have been checking this queue regularly (every day or two) and approving the ads that clearly were intended to be published. It’s a bit tricky because that queue also contains ads that were started but not finished; so I have to sort out what’s what. I usually check the “published ads” list for ads by the same user to see if there’s another version of the same ad that the user did publish. If I find something like that then I delete the version that’s in the “incomplete” list. If I don’t find anything, and I have no reason to think that the ad is in fact incomplete, then I go ahead and enable the ad.
Clearly this is not how we want things to work in the long run (or even in the short run for that matter). As of yesterday, the developers who created this classifieds plugin are troubleshooting this issue, and I really hope they can resolve it. I will report soon on their findings.
Thanks for your patience and for reporting your experiences so that we can try to get it working as soon as possible.
Good morning, I had put in 3 classified ads (2 for Sale and 1 Trade) and only one (the Trade) was enabled and the other 2 have now disappeared. Are they completely gone or just not showing up on my profile?
Thank you!!!Sorry to say that I am not seeing the other two ads anywhere, so I’m not sure what became of them. That’s the first I’ve heard of ads disappearing.
I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, possibly placed on a ‘to do’ list or even if it’s a contender. When I place an order on the new site, it hops over to Paypal, and after Paypal completes the transaction, it returns to the open invoice for my current order. It’s really confusing and makes me instinctively think that the transaction didn’t complete. I end up going to the order history just to double-check to make sure it was indeed processed.
It’s not a functional problem, per say–the payment goes through and the invoice is registered and what not–just awfully confusing.
I think I’ve got this issue fixed. If anyone notices this happening again, please let me know.
Hi. Forgive me if I’m repeating questions, but how do you refresh/renew an ad or do you have to post a new one? Also, when the changeover happened I lost all my old emails. Is that normal? Is there a way to recover them?
From earlier in this thread:
“Updating” an ad is not the same as “renewing” an ad. If you edit one of your ads you will get an email stating that the ad has been updated; but if the ad was expired before you edited it, it will still be expired. “Updated” simply means that you edited the ad. The only way to renew an ad is to click the “renew” link in the email you get telling you that your ad is about to expire. But here’s the trick…
If you are logged into the site when you click that “renew” link, your ad will be renewed. If, on the other hand, clicking the link takes you to the login page, go ahead and log in. THEN CLICK THE LINK IN THE EMAIL AGAIN, and your ad will be renewed.
I just created four classifieds ads but only one is enabled. I noticed that it was the only one I didn’t edit after I previewed it. Clay, can you please enable the other three when you get a chance? Thank you.
Done. And thanks for the info about editing—that may be useful in troubleshooting this issue.
just tried to make a new classified ad and got this message
“You need to verify the email address used as the contact email address for this Ad. The Ad will remain in a disabled status until you verify you address. A verification email has been sent to you. This Ad is currently disabled until you verify the email address used for the contact information. Only you (the author) can see it.”
I tried to verify it within the link we get when an ad is going to expire and got this
“You do not have sufficient permissions to perform that action.”Sorry about that. I enabled the ad, so it should be showing up in the listings now. This is still a mystery. It’s happening a lot less than it was at first, but it does still happen sometimes, and I’m still trying to determine why. In the meantime, I’m trying to keep a close eye on them and do manual approvals when necessary. I try to check daily, but in this case I was traveling for a few days. But please keep letting me know if/when it happens so that I can approve the ads right away (I know that’s kind of a pain). Thanks for your patience.
I am still having words disappear from posts. They are clearly there when I type, but not when it actually posts. It is almost always just one word. Weird.
This is really a mystery. It’s happened to me a couple of times too, and I can’t find any rhyme or reason to it. I’ve also searched the WordPress forums and haven’t found anyone else who’s had this issue. Still working on this one.
