*coughs* I didn’t say I was passing…. just that defending my bid at the end of auction might not happen.

        Another OOAK griffin?

*weeps* I’m at my National Guard Annual Training, so there’s NO guarantee I can even GET internet access! (I’m at the USO right now, stealing a few minutes to check email)

*sighs* Good luck on him, all.

Oh, and WHAT BENGAL GRIFFIN? Where where where????

Oh, he’s *gorgeous* but I think I’ll pass on this one. Gotta save my chances for a griffin. 🙂

Wow, I got the Russet Gold & Green Nettuce Poad #1 for a *steal*! I honestly thought I was going to get outbid.

…always thought those lil’ gals were good luck, and I think I could use a shot of it. 🙂

Ummm….I can afford ebay sometimes, but I don’t go out to eat, I don’t go to movies, I don’t have kids, I don’t buy new cloths, I don’t buy new shoes just because they are cute, I don’t smoke, I cut way back on the book buying, my car is 15 years old but paid for, it’s cheap to plate and insure, I don’t go to clubs or basically out anywhere, and I work 80 + hours a week.

basically I squirrel the extra away so I can splurge once in a while and many pieces I like go way to high so I just sigh. I understand the frustration though. There were many years where I could not afford to bid on ebay and it was very frustrating.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. No TV, no dining out, no kids, old clothes, VERY old car, etc etc. It’s all about prioritizing what you’re going to spend money on. It may seem like some of us have a lot, but I know in my case it can be months, and sometimes almost a year between eBay wins. I try to pick my battles very, very carefully, and have seen some gorgeous pieces go to another loving home because I just wouldn’t allow myself to type in any more numbers.

*shrugs* We also are all different ages, walks of life, and different financial situations.

Sioux City. It’s basically on the border of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota (I actually serve in the South Dakota Army National Guard).

And Dragon? Anthrocon is in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Yay! Got this one finished as well. My camera did not like his metallic shine and the flash washed out all the shading and most of the subtle iridescent glitter. But he’s ready for the Anthrocon 09 Art Show!

I wonder how much it would cost to insure mine?? I think I’m at like $25,000 to $30,000
How do they determine the value??
My Brown Emperor was $180 when I bought him but is now about $1000 or so

Also NEVER feel bad about bringing up anything here ESPECIALLY when it comes to protecting your Windstone investment

I was asked to estimate the value on the pieces (they didn’t ask for receipts, but I was able to produce documentation, thanks to Ravnheart’s site, for values on eBay items), and the insurance was ~$1.00 per $1,000 of value per year. So my $13,000 collection came out to ~$130/year, which is just around $10/mo.

EDIT: you also have to provide some sort of photo documentation that you actually OWN said pieces. I made copies of the pics of my griffin flock, my passel of cats, and clutter of Poads.

Dunno if I posted it here, but I had a nightmare that the Gold Wine Griffin arrived at my apartment via the back of the postal carrier’s personal car. The box was damaged and the griffin inside (who had paper wrapped around his head) was loosely held in place with a couple of pieces of folded cardboard. His claws were broken off and when I carefully unwrapped the head, it was broken into countless pieces.

                            I woke up almost crying.

That’s about the only Windstone dream I remember having.

Are policies like that expensive? I’ve always wondered about that. I’d like to insure my collection, but never really got around to researching what I would have to do, or what it would cost.

It’s about an additional $10 per month on top of my auto/renters insurance. It’s done by value, so my collection is insured for *coughs* $13,000.

Congratulations, Tyrrlin, on insuring your Windstones! You have 47? How many of those are griffins?

Thirty-eight griffins, six Poads, and three cats. 🙂 And thanks! I feel better about the collection now that it’s properly insured.

I just placed a “personal insurance” rider thing on my Windstone collection. Since my collection is so “large” it wouldn’t be covered under homeowners and/or renters insurance. This way, I’m covered for loss or damage on any of my current pieces (at this point they number 47). I never realized how much all those pieces added up to until the agent gave me the total. 😮

Am I the only one who has done this? Am I crazy for having done this?
