Oh, I’m so jealous! Congrats on the awesome setup! It looks shiny and splendiferous. 🙂
Man, your creature designs are AWESOME. I’d love to see you sculpt some of these!
You’re not evil, you’re DIABOLICAL!
Damn it, I have a budget. Don’t torture me like this! I still have my eye longingly one one of the old dragonsnails in your store, and now you’re coming out with new ones??? And egads, the twitters are adorable too!
Oh, who am I kidding? I can’t wait to see them. (the problem is I want to *own* them!). Everything you do is absolutely lovely. Maybe I can, like, not eat as much or something..XD
I think the memorial pyo flapcat is a wonderful, wonderful idea. I’ve never cremated a pet, but I would love the chance to paint a sculpture of some of my darlings in remembrance of them. I don’t suppose you plan to do one of a persian cat…? (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a persian sculpture I liked, so I’d also simply love to see one in your style!).
I’d still love to see him anyway, even if he is big and chunky. ^_^
(And I’d really, really love one of those special tables…).
Like Jen said, you don’t wait to eliminate your natural bacterial community before it can even form. But if you aren’t running the filter, you’ll need to change some water every week–some, but not necessarily all. I’m afraid I’ve never managed a tank that size so I don’t know what would be a good water change regimen for you (plus, I normally keep filthy filthy goldies, lol).
One way to know exactly what the state of your water quality is is to buy test strips. They’re a bit pricy but there should be a ton of strips in the box. They’re available in most pet stores and let you determine nitrate levels, pH, etc…that way you know when things need changing.
Do the bubbles actually seem to be affecting his behavior? If he doesn’t seem to be exhibiting abnormal activity or acting ill, it might be best just to leave it alone for awhile and watch him closely…just because the bubbles are bothersome to us, doesn’t mean they’re bothersome to *him*. Even with bubbles the filter should be oxygenating the water.
You *can* get away without the filter though; you’ll just have to watch your water chemistry closely so you know exactly when it needs a water change, or partial water changes (many small changes is usually better than one whole-tank change, since you’ll clean the water without ruining your natural biological filter).
I’m in massachusetts and we’re sharing in the bad weather; it’s been storming almost nonstop for weeks (it’s going at it again right this moment, actually). The towns on one side of mine apparently got hail, and the towns on the other side got a tornado warning. o.o

Oh, tell me about it! Pet stores are so misleading, advertising goldfish as the easiest beginner fish…goldies are one of the hardest fish to keep! I love them, but they’re so filthy. ^_^;; (mine especially…I’ve got big chubby fantails, and all that body mass is put to use making dirty water!).
Darn it though, y’all are making me want a betta again…and I’ve got a nifty little two gallon somebody tossed to the curb too…
Oh wow–he’s gorgeous! The detail of the wing membrane is amazing…I love his design. ^_^
I can’t wait to see those dragon heads when they are done…the paintings are beautiful too!
But I reeeally love your dragons. 😀
The bubbles are meant to last a long time (since they’re a ‘nest’), so that’s still pretty normal…but, it never hurts to be safe!
The rule is that you won’t locate your movie again until you buy a new one (at which point it mysteriously reappears). The same goes for books, socks, and other assorted items. It’s a universal law. ^_~
Don’t let her out!!! Just wait it out, it’ll usually last about a week. Put her in the bathroom while you’re out if you’re worried about her christening the furniture…and remember, this is as agonizingly frustrating for her as it is for you.
When my girl first went into heat, she didn’t yell so much, just backed up against everyone and cooed at us…and our neutered tom was the light of her world, lol. Sometimes we could calm her down by brushing her, though, uh, I’m pretty sure it’s because she got off on it. ^_^;; (the teeth of a comb on the back of one’s neck is apparently quite the turn on..).
