Such a great idea Snap, thanks! πŸ˜€ Definitely add me!

I live about halfway between NYC and Montreal along the Hudson River. Other than one day with a trace of snow (you could still see the grass) before New Year’s, there has been no snow to speak of. On January 6, I took a pictures of all the stuff growing outside with a little sign next to them stating the date, location and temperature – a balmy 68 degrees F! 😯 We have tulips that are about 1.5 inches out of the ground and our first dandelion blooming. No cross country ski areas are open in the area and the downhill ski areas that are open have only a few trails open each. Most I can count on a single hand. This is NOT a normal winter. This little snowball is missing her snow, and they are talking about this probably being the warmest summer on record πŸ˜₯

sounds good to me!!! horse tail huh? that is sweet when it matches your hair, looks good! i’ve seen some neat ones on ebay, plus i saw lots o peeps at king richards faire sporting those. do they kill the horsey for it like they do for a sheepskin?

Nope. The tail is leftover and it’s just making another use for a part that would otherwise just be thrown out. I know a friend who used to work for a leathersmith at one of the faires. He got them in once in a while as they were available (he had a black draft horse tail… much wider, but he was a huge man and wore a kilt with it). He didn’t get a ton of them in and not all that often, so I don’t think he got them from factories. I washed mine with shampoo and conditioner a few times and combed/pulled it out to clean it up (it smelled like a barn πŸ™„ ).

Cancer/Gemini cusp, so I’m not actually sure which one I’m supposed to be, I’ve been told both. (June 21)

Not that I’m huge into the astology thing, really.

You would be a Cancer (it’s the first day the Sun enters the constellation of Cancer). Cusp just means you are within a day or two either side of the changeover, meaning you might have a mixture of traits from both signs (there are some astrologers who don’t believe in cusps, but most generally do).

    January 11, so a Capricorn.

I haven’t tried to mix up my own food. I am not sure if I would be motivated enough…lol.
I asked the vet what I could feed them when their stomach is upset and they told me some cooked hamburger meat with rice. But I will try anything once.

I just found out what she uses and has. She has poodles (toy I think). She uses steak (any will do… just cut most of the fat out) and mixes it with some vegetables. If she goes out to eat and anyone has any leftover beef they won’t finish and don’t want to take as a doggie bag, she will take it home with her for the dogs. Granted small poodles don’t eat as much as something larger though, but it’s an option and I thought I’d throw it out there.

HA!! My dog, Lady, won’t touch rice- it’s the equivalent of broccoli or other green things as far as she is concerned and EVERY TIME she gives us this look as to say “You’re joking right?”

I know that look all too well πŸ˜‰

Have you tried making your own food? I know of someone who doesn’t feed their dog regular dog food. They mix up their own stuff (they researched it before they tried it). Their dogs are totally healthy and they don’t have the normal doggy smell, especially on their breath.

One of my dogs (both Cocker Spaniels) can only eat this one type of Liver food. We got him a few months ago and wanted to see if he could eat what our other dog was already eating. We tried a little and within 3 days, we found his stomach to be too sensitive. Same type of food, but the Liver is gentler on his stomach than the chicken stuff.

My sheltie that I had until May I would regularly have to give a mix of regular rice with various amounts of dog food. Some breeds are just notorious for sensitive tummies (Shelties, Cocker Spaniels). Then there Bassetts on the other side of the spectrum. Natural born hoovers… with an exhaust problem. πŸ˜†

I’ll try to find out what she cooks up for her dogs.

That’s why teachers should be authority figures, not clowns.

Oh, I agree. Too many of the teachers want to be the kids’ “buddies”. The ones that try to discipline the kids get too much resistance from the parents. Teachers have no real authority.

I wanted to be a teacher. I still love teaching, but the school system is starting to be broken. You can’t just teach, because you have to teach to the “core” and prep for standardized tests, and deal with politics and stupid parents that won’t parent and expect you to teach their kids everything while other parents don’t want you to teach them anything, it seems, and you’re supposed to stay in control of your class but you can’t dicipline them.

I decided I’d be better off sticking with volunteering if I want to teach.

That is what I’m afraid of when I eventually go to grad school for Education and German. I think I’m probably going to end up teaching college or adults (I’d either be teaching German, computers and maybe ESL). Kids are getting trained to take exams, but practical life skills seem to get overlooked (lots of parents don’t have time to teach them) and they have to be in 10 million activities. Whatever happened to just going out and playing kickball or make believe and being a kid? The smaller, very rural districts seem to know this part of life, which gives me hope.

Phobias… I’m with Nambroth. I like watching spiders and learning about them, but I don’t like it when they invade my personal space, especially the little hoppy/ninja like spiders, or the ones that descend down and land really flat. I had one hang down in front of my face while driving. I managed to pull over and run out of the car, hands flying. I want to hold my friend’s baby tarantulas though (the slow ones). I’m afraid of running into webs though, especially of big ones, like in Japan (the bird eaters *shudder*). Ticks make my skin crawl.

Heights I get anxiety attacks and stop breathing. I still get nervous on rollercoasters, but I just take deep breaths and really do enjoy them. If I scream, I can breath out and I’m ok. It’s when I don’t feel like I have a control if I fall that I freak. I just need to grow wings and I’ll be all set πŸ˜‰

Some closed spaces make me tweak, cages, and things too closely around my neck or people grabbing my neck. Very large fires. A few other random things, but I don’t think they are really phobias.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY

No worries and thank you πŸ˜€

GB, I’m looking at getting the Peacock and Rainbow hatchlings if I can get them from some place (found a site the other night… just hoping they still have them!). If not, I’ll probably just go for a Gold and Ruby one or a Rainbow young dragon. I’ve got a price range. My mom just told me she’d buy the windstones for me and let me get the computer stuffs πŸ˜€ Score!

in reply to: Happy birthday siberakh! #526955

Awww… Thanks everyone! I haven’t gotten anything yet, but it’s only 3:18 EST. I’ve been told I’m either getting Windstones (to be ordered… the stores around here sell so few or are discontinuing selling them) or some computer stuffs that I need (an ergonomic keyboard with a USB hub so I can use it). If I get the computer stuffs, I’m ordering myself one. Gods I can’t wait for the W-2s. I should be getting a sizeable return this year 😈

    Wishes are for:
computer keyboard so my hand doesn’t hurt
    windstones
free time to finish painting my PYO griffins
a job would be nice too… means more windstones πŸ˜€

I’m in upstate NY (near Saratoga Springs). There are actually a lot of quirky nifty art things in this area which is really kewl. The Catskills are great for stuff too, as well as the Ithaca area. In Massachusetts, there are places in the Berkshires that do take kindly and appreciate art (Great Barrington and Lee have some pretty neat places). I don’t see many places out near my brother in Shrewsbury, MA though. Good thing to know NOT to move to Rhode Island! Move this way!

Oooooh, someday I’ll get to Dragon Con. I’m missing Arisia this year (in Boston) and I don’t know if I can make it to I-Con (Long Island) in the Spring. I generally make it the various Ren Faires though.

I’ll post a link either in my profile or something when I’ve got something up. There will probably be a mention of Windstones somewhere, as well as a link to the Windstone editions site too. Gotta help promote and bring others to the dark side, I mean… into the fold. πŸ˜‰

    in reply to: Curlies!! #525574

Awww… that’s what I get for taking a day off from the internet to do computer tutorials (not to mention having a wrapped up hand because the typing has aggravated it – I need a proper desk darn it!). Oh well. There will be more curlies. I still want a russet one… and an emerald peacock one… and a black gold one…

You see where this is going. πŸ˜‰

At least I’ll have part of my webpage up in a week or two and have some proof I can actually create and maintain one to show possible employers πŸ˜€
