I have two cats, both rescues – Sasha the floofy tortoiseshell, and Sivani the super-floofy silver tabby. They have both enjoyed having me home this long weekend, especially Sasha the lap cat. Sivani would be happier if I let her outside again, but the new apartment complex isn’t a safe place for wandering cats – too near the roads. Sivani is my athletic climber and adventurer, Sasha the homebody who wants to hog all of the petting. Sivani was also the sneaky one – had me absolutely convinced that she was another snuggler at the shelter, until we got home and she discovered I had another cat. It’s been nearly 8 years and she’s still never forgiven me, or warmed to “cuddle buddy” status with Sasha.
Let’s see if I can get this picture thing figured out. This is one of the extremely rare times they not only tolerated each others’ presence, but did so in good lighting while I had a camera at hand – makes it one of my most precious photos!

November 9, 2017 at 7:35 pm in reply to: WINTER/HOLIDAY 2017 GIFT SWAP — SIGN-UPS OPEN until NOV. 12 #1531627I am planning to sign up. I just keep getting hung up on filling out the questionnaire – wobbling between “high school pop quiz” flat answers and chattery nonsense that gets a bit long. I’ll send it in before the deadline, though!
Do past swappers have advice on how to tune the gift plan to the giftee’s survey? I’m a little worried I’ll fall into the trap of “oh, *I* like that so they must too” without catching the actual nuances of their preferences.

Are we encouraged to send Christmas cards back, or is that too likely to drown Melody and Windstone under a mountain of Hallmark cards?

Are there sculpts that allow more flexibility in stone size, or are the sizing tolerances always relatively tight? Do the stones have to be a snug enough fit to stay secure, if the stone size runs small? Not that I would mind how wrong-size-to-fit marbles would give me an excuse to keep a bunch of pretty stones around (gem shows get me every time), but it seems a shame if you have to “waste” a portion of your stock. Which I’m assuming is better spent if it serves the budget purpose of making profit.
…And I have to admit, I’m daydreaming of a playing-cat sculpture, using those gorgeous stones, and wondering if the chaos-that-is-cats would make for a sculpt with flexibility to allow all sorts of stones shapes for the toy – small, large, marble, leaf-shape…

Thanks, Angelika_Zen. My wallet’s already steadily emptying. =) The real trial will be seeing if I can stick to any sort of survivable budget while I work on my collection – which given the number of currently available designs on my list, maybe means I shouldn’t be asking for squeaks too!

It’s a long post for a newcomer, but I was having fun. Hope it at least brings a few grins or giggles. =)
I’m a “complete the family” dreamer, especially since I don’t have much space, which means I’m more interested in new sculpts than new colors. (Well, clarification – I adore seeing new colors, and if Prismatic Spring had been available 15 years ago when my Grandma started gifting me a dragon family, that would have been THE absolute must-have – Yellowstone might be my favorite place on Earth!) I’m working on acquiring the rest of my family, but I can’t help daydreaming further expansions. My biggest “complaint”, if you can call it that, is that with the exception of the poor itchy scratcher, all the dragons look like they’re posing for a portrait. We all know what families are like. So my dragon squeaks would be more “character” sculpts to amuse their more dignified relatives. Ideas that particularly amuse me:
– Hatchling having troubles: Mom? Mom? Why can’t I see, and why’s my tail all cold?
– Derpy baby: more interested in chasing a ball or inspecting a bug or climbing on Mom for cuddles?
– Sleepy dragon: yes, yes, it’s portrait time, that’s nice, but I’m napping
– Young lovers dragon pair: Together, they gaze longingly at each other. Apart, they gaze longingly at the world.
– Grandma dragon: a mate for the old warrior dragon, who surely had a reason for returning from his fights and got scolded for those scrapes
– Secret Guardian dragon: companion to Secret Keeper, but the one that dares a thief to prowl too closeAside from more dragon designs, I have a few other dreams:
– Royal hatchlings returning in retired & current colors (empress, emperor, kinglet)
– Hearth dragon in a color scheme that blends with blue/green or rainbow
– stone-style candle lamps & sconces and gargoyles in white with blue eyes to match ivory dragon candlelamp (especially cat & dragon ones)
– long-haired bird-winged flap-cat style in white w/ pale green eyes, muddy-silver tabby w/ pale green eyes, and tortoiseshell with dark gold eyes (AKA my cats in flap-cats =D )
– cuddly cat wants bellyrubs / it’s-a-trap sprawling cat (winged or otherwise)(Grail = longhaired, tortoiseshell or silver tabby)
– a whole set of “leaf animal” wall candle sconces, to keep my leaf cat sconce company (with at least one production run in the green/copper scheme)
– rock-dragon flower pots (or rock dragons that cling to the rim of flower pots)
– rock-dragon bookends
– rock dragons in Prismatic Spring (Yellowstone seems like a natural place for rock dragons!)
– female wizard (why do only beards get to have the fun? Braids can be epic too!)
– -> female wizard scolding misbehaving familiars/assistants (okay, this one might be a bit much, but if you puts cats and dragons and mice in the same room while Mom is distracted with her cauldron, you know it’s going to end in chaos)(you can also imagine this chaos is why Dad & his dragon are stomping around out in the elements, because they needed a little peace)…Okay, that’s more than a “few”.
One last squeak that I have to add for my mother, who is the proud owner of an embroidery machine: digitized machine embroidery designs. Maybe you could team up with one of the major embroidery design sites – Urban Threads has a large fantasy selection – to offer a line of Windstone Editions embroidery designs? Embroidery wouldn’t have quite the fidelity of the product photos, but I still think they’d be amazing, either as patches or lacework or any of the various styles of designs.
Thank you for all the daydreams, Melody, and the magic your sculptures have already brought into my life. =)
