I wanted to give Melody a special thank you for putting out the PYO line. Not only has it given me a new outlet for painting but also personal business as well. Thanks to Melody I’ve been able to pay off some really major bills.
I’m very happy to have and continue to be painting Windstones. I am wondering how it feels to see all of your creations come to life with all these painters, and how it feels to help support other artists out there like me. Not only does your company and products give a lot of joy to others but you’re helping fellow artists out there too…and on top of that make additional profit for your company and get to create a line of figures you can be more free to design with. It seems to me to be a great win/win/win combination and I just had to give you a lot of thanks because I’ve faced a lot of major house and medical bills and painting the PYOs has helped me keep my head above water.
Thanks Melody!I gotta tell you, my jaw never left the floor when I saw the first Pyos done by you, and everyone… I am simply amazed at the superb quality of these paintings. (I honestly expected the worst! Mostly, because I have such trouble painting them!)
I am just delighted beyond words that they are selling for good money painted, this is just wonderful. You guys have fun, make money, and we don’t gotta paint the things!
The only big problem we are facing with these pyo’s is trying to figure out how to handle the problem of folks painting and reselling pieces that are too similar to the production Windstone paint jobs… It is a sticky problem. We don’t want to be going around saying “HEY you can’t do that!” But, what should we do? Any suggestions?Ssthisto wrote:Melody wrote:Greater Basilisk wrote:Violet is too pale. A nice, deep purple like on a peacock Spectral… 😀
Yeah, dark purple.
Awww, I want a silver dragon with GREEN eyes. There haven’t been any production green-eyed dragons.Good green eyes are another goal of mine. We have green glass paint, but it is olive green, or sea foam green.
WindstoneCollector wrote:LOL Free Internet. 😆
I’d be happy to pay for it if I could figure out where is comes from!
SPark wrote:The problem is that eyes for Windstones aren’t acrylic paint, they’re more like a ceramic glaze. (What is the actual method, are they fired on? Or are they just painted, and it’s the limitations of the kind of paint you have to use?)
They are fired-on glass paint. That is powdered glass mixed with sticky stuff that gets painted on, then fired in a kiln. The glass paint fusess right onto the eye, so it is NEVER gonna come off. Any regular paint we have tried will come off of the glass eyes if it is abused enough. ( soaked in water, frozen and baked repeatedly, we really test stuff! )
The problem with fired-on paint is that is is limited in color.Greater Basilisk wrote:Violet is too pale. A nice, deep purple like on a peacock Spectral… 😀
Yeah, dark purple.
Greater Basilisk wrote:Cool, Melody and Chessie are finally back!
No, we aren’t back yet! For some reason the wireless internet connection for the laptops are working this morning, so I am trying to catch up a little, while I got the chance..It cuts out suddenly. (I think we are stealing it from a neighbor)

I’ve got the the Keeper dragon, the Unicorn and the Muse coming up. All the other designs are still in my head.
Silverdragon wrote:Question, are you going to one day do silver on some of the dragons to be available in stores? I really liked the silver Old Warrior. *stares at sig* And i was wondering if that was only a limited color or…it could possibly be in stores one day. 🙂
I’ve been putting off doing silver dragons because I want them to have better eyes.I want to wait till we come up with a nice purple eye color.

I own a store, but I was born an artist,
so were all not just store keepers. What’s the deal? 🙄I don’t know.. but I remember that we had talked in the office about how off-putting it sounded to have a retailer section.. like, so what do they talk about that other people can’t see? Seemed creepy to me, so I was one voice that was for getting rid of it. Nobody really used it anyway, because nobody is just a retailer! As SPark said above, we are still feeling around for what works in the way of a good forum, and what we should get rid of.This is a new deal for us! Any suggestions?
Thank you, I probably overstated my dismay, /
( stress). No I didn’t want a secret society, or closed group really, it just struck me strange that it was closed and seemed to have only two members.
What I really want is a better feel for who the Windstone collectors are, what they want and how to attract them. I know that the product deserves a better showing in the market place and I want to be part of making that happen;…. besides, I get paid for my efforts.Ask ’em!Art Slinger wrote:Hello again, I’m wondering why the, ” Retailer’s group is closed, with only like two members, it looks like. drag0nfeathers wrote:Hiya Mel, Are there any plans to do the New Gold color or the Emerald Peacock color in any of the other dragons. Like the Rainbow only came out in the Male, Mother, Hatching, & Young. I’ve been patiently waiting for a Gold/Em Pea/Rainbow Scratcher or Lap Dragon. Also there are the ones that are now gone entirely, like the Coiled, both the Spectrals, and the Hatching Empress. Oh! and Black and Gold Spectrals would be SO COOL! Though I’ve already whined in the past about that one =)
I need to sit down and figure out which dragon designs are getting ignored in the new colors. We should do different dragons in new different colors, so none are getting forgotten!I haven’t gotten to it yet. When I get back home.
Pam Thompson wrote:I mean for blue eyes only. Like the peacocks. If in the browns, the lighter blue eyes are rarer than the darker blues, is the same true for peacocks? All my peacocks have the lighter version blue, like with that brown male pictured, and I’ve never seen a peacock any other way.
The peacocks all had light blue eyes.
Pam Thompson wrote:What about non-brown dragons? What colors are their eyes supposed to be? By peacock male and OW both have the light blue eyes.
Peacocks have the light blue eyes, I think…
The old greens have orange eyes( except for a few that accidentally got blue eyes, I am waiting to see one of those on Ebay!)
Whites have straw eyes,
Rainbows have those creepy deep blue eyes,
Rubys have ruby eyes,
Peacock black and hybrid dragons have blue eyes,
Black Golds have blue eyes,
Golds have ruby eyes…
Emeralds have ruby or orange eyes,
and Jades have red eyes.whippetluv wrote:So my favorite dragon *don’t tell that white secret keeper* is the scratcher. I love everything about him…but my favorite is his long spiraled horns. It is the only one of two *right?* with metal horns…and I love them. May I ask why you didn’t do more dragons with seperate long horns vs the short snubby molded horns? Are there thoughts in the future of more long horned dragons?
I kinda think of him as a different species. Like the Family set is one kind… and the Emperor set is another…and the scratcher is waiting for more family members besides the lap.
Or am I thinking too hard about this? There are three with gold horns, Scratcher, Lap, and Warrior. I like them with real horns too, but is an extra thing to glue in and cast.. so we have only done it on the three.I don’t have too many more dragons in the works , but I’ll consider putting the horns on them. I consider the horned dragons as a seperate family too.
nina789 wrote:Hi Melody I Know that you did some gold leaf dragons awhile back.. I was wondering have you ever thought about doing white gold, Silver or copper leafing?
I know it would be tricky to do but I would love to see what the outcome would look like. Specailly the White gold or the copper.
🙂 I have been thinking about everything… the unique thing about real gold leaf though, is that it is a color that is impossible to replicate exactly with paint. Other colors, such as copper and silver, have pretty exact matches that can be painted on, so I wouldn’t bother with leafing them. Leafing is a very difficult, time consuming pain in da butt.
