Yay! 😀 😀 😀 I’m so happy to hear the white SK, will come out on direct sales! Assuming they are still around the $1000 mark, I can afford shipping on a solid core too. I agree, in for a $1000, in for 32 pounds!

      We love you, Melody!

      Hopefully, maybe,perhaps…not for certain!

Someday she will be done in Rainbow, not as an ooak but regular production, I hope, since that is a production color.

So does this mean that the SK will be done in the regular production colours and put on the direct sales or preorder? 😀

I’ve been trying to get a white SK but the bids on ebay are starting to get too high for me. I’m really hoping these will eventually end up on the direct sales. Trying to comfort myself. 😥The White Secret Keeper is intendeed to be a regular color.
We decided that we would auction the first ten of a regular color on ebay, signed, so that is why we are auctioning these. We do plan to sell them as regular producton someday (unsigned and hopefuly hollow). No idea when that will be though.Sigh.

and several other people kind of liked the idea…

so I thought I’d see what you think about it…

          So…Melody…what do you think

White Violet Peacock would be totally cool to me…

hehe This sounds like an example of an idea you can imagine, but I could never match in reality! The problem is that the peacock colors just don’t look that great against white. They need to be on black. I will try one and see how it looks, though, when I get a chance.

I don’t think I like it…especially with the different sized eyes…and it isn’t very cute IMHO…perhaps it will be in the finished form, but not quite yet.

            Sorry.

I noticed that the only dragons with freckle scales are the brown and green. I love the freckle scales and wondered why the newer colors don’t have them? I like how they draw your attention to different areas on the dragon. Sorry if it’s a kinda odd question…. I was just curious. 😀 😀

We only put them on when they looked nice. The freckles didn’t go with all the colors, like white, black gold and ruby, but the Peacocks had them. Hmmm…I guess the emeralds didn’t have them either…and it seemed excessive to put them on the on the rainbows, since they were colorful enough…the golds don’t have them… Yep, I guess just the old green, brown and peacocks had ’em.

I just put a pic of the Secret Keeper in rainbow in my gallery.

If I have time, I will try to take a full side photo of her tomorrow.

Sorry, Melody, if this got asked before. I did do a search and didn’t find an answer, so I’m asking what the story is behind the Spectrals? They’re so different from your other dragons. What inspired them?

I was so taken by those crystal globes we use, I wanted to use them for eyes in a dragon design. I love how well they reflect light in a dark room.
(The one I have at home even has glow-in-the-dark paint in the eyesockets behind the globe eyes, so it looks really spooky in the dark.)
I wanted to try a dragon design with the wings unfurled as well, so the Spectrals ended up with both open wings and weird eyes.

so why not a black and white one….I would certainly love to have one…(mostly black)..

                          and it’s not really re-doing one you’ve already done…

I know I’m not the only one that would by one… 😀

don’t make me beg….although that hasn’t worked for me yet…I’m still waiting for that sitting white spectral…. 😕 I know I say this a lot, about everything, but I was planning to do the unicorns in a new color of some kind, haven’t decided what yet.
OH right… the sitting Spectral…forgot about that one. I don’t think we have any castings right now, though. I’ll have to check. If we do, I will get some painted.

Mel, did you say original CLAY sculpture? I thought you made them out of clay, and then plaster? Are you meaning to tell me that the original family was all made entirely from soft clay?? If that be so, then you ARE a glutton for punishment! Yep.They were all in clay.I was just learning how to sculpt these! At first, I did all the details in soft clay (Water clay, no less). I started cleaning up the castings when we had to remove the seam lines, and figured out that it would be much better (though not faster, by any means)to put the detail into the gypsum casting instead. The details come out cleaner, and the sculpture can be sanded and buffed to a fine polish in gypsum. But it does take FOREVER to do. That is why I get out so few things.

On the clay ones, did you have to fire them? Water clay shrinks too (or expands, depending on H2O amount)–it would be really hard to get eyes to fit in them because the eye-sockets would always be changed size! How did you get around that problem?

No, I didn’t fire them. I used a clay called WED. It is designed to be used for making molds on, while it is still wet or leather hard. Since it doesn’t need to dry out, the shrinkage is less. I had to carve out the eye sockets in the plaster castings to fit our eyes better. The sockets needed to be much larger than I expected to accommodate the variations in the glass eye thicknesses.

Which of the original sculpts were first done in clay? I can’t imagine making the emp out of water-based clay!

The original line of animals, and the hatching, the female and the male dragon were finish detailed in clay. All of the original sculptures are still done in clay now; just not detailed in the clay.

.-So the original sculpts that were done in clay were all refined later by carving into the gypsum?

The animals were never detailed in gypsum, they are as they came out of the mold directly from the clay master, however the male and female dragons were later sanded down, given more detail and polished, to match the later dragons.

-Do you still have any of the original clays? Or maybe a casting done off of an original clay?

We do. Some got pitched, but I still have several. I think we kept most of the original castings, or molds..I don’t think we have the original clay dragons anymore, but I really don’t know for sure. Too many boxes.
