I voted for black/wolf cross, but as you mentioned about black and pearl cross…that is what I would take…..like the PYO in my mixed family…

Actually, Andalusians are decended from the predecessors that helped create the Lipizzaner.

The Lipizzaners found at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna come from the Piber farm almost exclusively. All are decended from 6 different Stallions:
Pluto: a gray Spanish stallion from the Royal Danish Stud, foaled in 1765
Conversano: a black Neopolitan stallion, foaled in 1767
Neapolitano: a bay Neopolitan stallion from Polesina, foaled in 1790
Favory: a dun stallion from the Kladrub stud, foaled in 1779
Siglavy: a gray Arabian stallion, foaled in 1810
Maestoso: a gray (or possibly white) Kladruber stallion, a crossbred of Neapolitan sire and a Spanish dam, foaled at the Hungarian stud of Mezőhegyes in 1819

All Piber Lipizzaners are decended from these 6 lines and will bear brands indicating which ones, as well as foal number and the Piber symbol. If you know what the different stallions physical traits are, you can actually pick out which lines a modern day Lipizzaner is decended from! There are two other lines recognized by the Lipizzan International Federation, but they won’t be in the bloodlines from the ones at Piber. Another big stud farm is in Lipica (formerly spelled Lipizza, hence the breed name) in Slovenia (Lipizzaners are a national treasure of Slovenia).

There are some Lipizzaners who stay dark and never develop a grey to white coat (Lipizzaners are actually considered genetically to be grey. A true white horse will have pink skin. If the horse has gray or black skin, even if the coat is snow white, the horse is actually a gray horse.). The Spanish Riding School makes sure they have at least 1 bay Lipizzan in residence as a nod to the old belief that to not have one is bad luck. Up until the 18th century, Lipizzaners also could be bay or dun. The grey gene is dominate, so the other colors have gone they way of genetics.

The more grey a Lipizzaner’s coat is (unless it’s a bay), the younger it is. The horses are very slow to mature. There also aren’t a lot of them (I think there are only around 3,000 registered world wide last I remember).

If you visit the school in Vienna, don’t visit in January (when I did). They are on vacation *d’oh!*. The museum across the street is open and you can watch them via camera in the stables, see all sorts of neat stuff, etc., but no performances. You can even buy Mare’s milk chocolate at the gift shop! If you are there during their performing season, check out a morning workout. I think it’s free, or cheaper than the shows and I believe much less crowded.

Guess where I spent a few hours one day ….

    Hehe… don’t mean to intrude Keschete 8)

No intrusion, Great Information…..I have only seen the group that travels around the states. I would love to visit the riding school. They are breathtaking! Absolutely the most fabulous horses I have ever see. Thanks for more detailed history 🙂

This could be many horses…Andalusian being a possibility, but it could be any number of horse breeds because color isn’t always an indicator of breed.

Here is a picture from an Andalusian / Lusitano website and the link is below for the website.

The Andalusian is an ancestor of the famous Lipizzaner stallions. They are the only horse in the world that is born dark and turns white as an adult. I believe they are the only totally white horse in the world.

I have attended the Lipizzaner show and actually the guy who owns the travelling show races Vipers. So hopefully I will get to meet him at one of our racing events. The Lipizzaner stallions are descended from the horses from famous Spanish riding school in Vienna, Austria. during World War II the horses were almost wiped out and General Patton saved them.

The show is fantastic if you have never seen it and they come to your area…these horses are trained to fight and actually can jump up in the air and kick out all four legs at the same time to fend off opponents.

They are the most beautiful horses I have ever seen!

Are you having a FESS? It is functional endoscopic sinus surgery? I work in an ENT office and I am a Nurse Practitioner. So if you need any questions answered or problems….that is my line of work…

Most people recover quickly and they feel much better once they are healed. They can actually breath better and have less sinus pressure, headaches, infection….hopefully this will make your life 100% better!

Really after surgery the only restrictios are no bending, lifting or straining.

Good luck…hope you are better soon!

Hopefully this story of mine will help you.

    I rescue Miniature Pinschers. I have 8 Min Pins a 1/2 Dachshund/1/2 Min Pin and a Dachshund.

I have one Min Pin Female who is about 8 years old who was set to be euthanized at the local shelter when she was 2, because she was attacking the family cats and she hates and will bite women. She loves men. But, initially she bit me quite severely when we took her in. She weighed about 8 pounds. The owners were the second owners, and her original owner was a single man who moved out of the country. She reacted violently when placed in a hope with other animals and women…

I have a Min Pin Dachsie mix that was given to us because she jumped on tables and drank from peoples glasses and she also was a bitter when she didn’t get her way.

I have a female Min Pin who is 13. We took her in at about age 8, when her elderly owner was placed in a nursing home, she went to other family members, who obviously abused her. It took her 4 years before she would let my husband pick her up. She would initially fear bite, especially men. Probably there was abuse by a male family member.

I have a 4 year old Dachshund whose owner was placed in a nursing home. The dog was fed table food its whole life and had it’s own rules. She occaisionally tries to bite me when she doesn’t want to follow my rules.

Last, but not least, 9 of my dogs attacked a female cat that fell over my fence. Fortunately, I was home and was able to save the cat. None of my dogs weighs over 20 pounds, but I have pad locks and a 6 foot vinyl privacy fence with a cement chain wall.

I do this because I have some very abused dogs, that have all improved under my care, but I would never risk a child getting in my yard. Min Pins and Dachshunds have a very high prey drive and will kill other creatures unless you have them completely under control.

So in truth, my Min Pins can be just as aggressive as a Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Cane Corso….if you ban one breed you alm ost would have to ban them all.

My Min Pins could hurt a small child in a pack. They could potentially kill a small child. I work with them and take safety precautions, but I believe it is the humans who are ultimately responsible, not the BREED!

I am looking for one of those. Dont suppose its for sale?

Nah…sorry, I did get it for $25. I talked a guy out of it by saying he didn’t need it since he didn’t have any castles. It has some of the crenellations broken and some chips, so it’s not perfect. It gives me three of the four logostones. I was thrilled to get it. Now maybe I need some castles to go with it.

I am going to send these pics to Dave at Astral Castle so he can add to the encyclopedia. Thought it was a neat piece to have.

Yeah, it’s UPS for me anymore if I have a choice. 🙄
What with shipping packages often being cheaper with them now, no “OMG a side is 16 1/2″ that means it has to go as 30 lbs even though it weighs 3”, free or at least cheaper (and more accessible) services than USPS offers, and discovering that insurance is almost a scam to put money in the postmaster’s pocket, not to mention the surly attitudes at my closest P.O. …

Ohh I so agree, my postal carrier at work didn’t want to take my package today. I had a paypal shipping label, that says you can give it to the mailman. After a few words, he came back and picked it up…next time, it’s UPS for me…our UPS guy is fantastic!!!

My vote is for a fledgie! I don’t have a white fledgie, but that is what I think it is….obviously the kinglet, fledgie and the emperess and emperor hatchers are a possiblilty, but the eye is too big for a curly, coiled, regular hatcher or young….

in reply to: Does anyone know how to track an insured only package? #588220

YAH! After 3 weeks he finally showed up….really almost 4 weeks and the package looks like it was used as a football. But the Triceratops was okay!!!!! he was packed really well.

in reply to: People who sell Windstones #590564

I can personally attest that Dave does do great shipping and he buys retired pieces, so sometimes he has what no one else has. And his encyclopedia is fantastic.

Now I am gonna plug Magicalomaha.com Cindy is the owner and she is really great, I have been very pleased with her store. If I want a piece UPS then that is how it is sent.

Obviously, we also have Enchantment, Wolf and Emerald and they all pack and ship the way things are supposed to be. Great prices with them and layaways available with some.

So you have a great number of places and all of them, nice, honest people! I would buy and have bought from all but a few of those I have listed.

All my items have been perfect and sent with care!

What about Dave from Astral Castle?

Thank you. Yes. Admittedly I don’t get to spend as much time on the forum as I’d like, because running a store is a full-time job. (Well, duh!)

Having been a professional packer of fragile items for the past 11 years, and at other times before that, I know about package crumple zones and to ALWAYS double box. I also know that boxes can fall off the top shelf on UPS trucks, and that some postal employees like to play basketball with smaller packages, so I pack with the assumption that your box is likely to get dropped or otherwise not treated with any respect. And of course for the unforeseen problem everything is sent insured.

Sorry. Packaging is one of my high horses. Obsessions. Whatever.
