Mike and I took two of our ponies to my kids’ school for a show and tell.
The first group of kids were Pre-K. The ponies did SOOOOO good! They stood still and let all the kids do their petting.
The next group of kids were the developmentally disabled kids. Wow! Kids who normally were in their own little worlds came alive when they saw the ponies. Their eyes brightened and they started talkin their own talk.
One little boy who the teachers have been trying to get through to went up to Silo and hugged her leg and started saying “horsie”. The teachers were flaberghasted he talked!
We had an absolutely great day and the ponies were angels! One little boy got away from his teacher and ran UNDER Silo 😯 I think I just about had a heart attack! But she didn’t move an inch. Thank God!
We’re going to be invited back next year!
Now I’m tired 😆I work in an ENT practice and we evaluate a lot of children for hearing when they are developmentally delayed. Most of these children actually hear well enough, and sadly we have to tell the parents that the child has normal hearing and the issues are being caused by something else.
These children usually are overstimulated by human contact, but put them with an animal and they come alive! The effect the animals have on these children is fantastic. I have done wildlife presentations and exotic animal presentations to these kids and they are so alert and engaged!
I think they are so innocent and special that they can gain so much from programs and presentations with animals! Keep doing this presentation, the kids will benefit tremendously!
I will say Happy Birthday JC! and for everyone who wished him well, I will let him know this is posted. JC has been very busy at work and he managed to score one of the Silver Jade SK’s for his birthday. I also sent him a Rainbow OW.
Thank you everyone for the Happy Birthday wishes on behalf of JC!

BRoS wrote:guess what!!! we had an earthquake today, the US measurements have labeled it a 6.7 richter scale, it yanked me from my work for like 20 secs and my collegue jumped up screaming (she is 61 yrs old) and she was talking to her elderly mother on the phone, but there was only one barn wall that collapsed near the origins of the quake (building regulations are very strict in Iceland), we aquired a new hot-spring and the citicents of two towns have to sleep outside in tents (now that’s new) no serious injuries on people, but my co worker had bits of worries (understandably) because she lives within 10 kilometres from the quake middle
I saw this on the news! I grew up in California, so I know how scary they can be! Glad no one was hurt!!!
Thanks for the kind words everyone! Though I do not even actually think about saying no to a case like this, I get the call and if I think I can help, then I just say yes.
Update:
Roxie has been coughing and choking, not all the time, but periodically, and I live in south Louisiana. So we have a vet appointment Saturday to see if it is heart worms, heart trouble or allergies. She is sleeping in the bed, snuggles on the sofa or in her personal basket. She really has been a jewel. Once she gets cleared by the vet, we can intoduce her to the pack and start her rehab. Usually dogs this old, live out their years with me, unless a special home pops up.
If you know anyone looking for an older dog that loves to snuggle, point them my way. I have three older red females that are older and all would love a home with someone who would snuggle with them.
This is Red and she is about 14 years oldDixie is to the left and she is 9 years old and pup Kahlua is center and Red is to the right.
I think Roxie will fit in well with the old red girls club 🙂
It is always a nice thing to get a new car, a new job or a new pet! Congrats! I hope the sale was smooth and you have a good dealer.
My husband sells cars, and he always tries to make the experience short and sweet. He knows how miserable it is to spend all day dickering about a car.
Congrats! Hope you get great gas mileage and have a trouble free car. Which Scion did you get? The car or the van?

I can only keep her in my thoughts and prayers, and express my deepest regrets and condolences to her for this horrible loss….I can not even begin to imagine how painful this is for her and the whole family. Hugs and if we canhelp in any way, please let us know!
Kaya
Here she is…what a sweetie, housetrained, sleeping in the bed with us, crate trained….why would anyone throw away an animal this sweet?
This is Czar..he is available for adoption, neutered, microchiped, house and crate trained, up to date on shots and HW prev. Sweet fella, good with female dogs and older children, needs supervision with small kids and cats/small pets.
I think its great! I may not always post but I always check the forum. Kaya
Hugs and Chocolate!
Kyrin wrote:So, are you guys going to hate me for rehoming my two big dogs because they are a physical danger to my older dog Jewel? I love Sierra and Isabeau, but they literally try to kill Jewel if I let them out with her. And run over the kids in their eagerness to tear Jewel to bits. I am not completely sure why they hate her so much, but they do.
They get along fine with Ein our other little dog, the cats, the kids, (when Jewel isn’t in view), and the other two dogs we have. But Jewel has been in our family for 7 years, and the other two are young, only 2 years old. I think they will make great dogs for families in which they would be the only dog.
Kyrin
Absolutely not! You have a reason for rehoming your dogs and the operative word is that YOU rehomed them. You didn’t dump them at a kill shelter because you wanted a new puppy. The dog I picked up today didn’t do anything wrong. She is sweet, she gets along with my puppy, my cats and my other dogs.
Her owner basically “threw her out with the trash”. I rescue and I rehome adoptable dogs and I often keep the older dogs that no one wants. I often rehome more dominant dogs and I have a dog available right now for adoption. Czar is a 3 year old male who is trying to be boss and he needs a home with a strong owner. I screen the prospective owners and try to find forever homes.
I picked up Roxie today, the female 8 year old dog from the shelter. She has a skin allergy along her back and is missing some hair, otherwise she is just great.
She rode like a pro in the truck on the way home and she got really excited when I pulled into my neighborhood. I almost cried, I guess she thought she was going home.
She is adorable and I think she will fit in with the rest of the pack. I will post some pictures tomorrow.
The stupidity of people never cease to amaze me.
I went online today at Legalzoom.com and actually paid to incorporate a non profit 501 c 3 corp today. In 35 days I should have all the paperwork finished. The name I picked out was Tiny Terrors Min Pin and Dachshund Rescue. With that and a letter from my vet I can put dogs on petfinder and I can take donations (hopefully from myself) that are tax deductible. Who knows, I might actually be able to fundraise and get some volunteers.
I also went and got a book on developing a charity organization. At least it would be a good way to help fund taking in and caring for these older dogs 🙂
The shelter I went to today is brand new, in the next county (parish) and the girl is in her 20’s and seems like she cares. I offered to help with all small breeds and I told her that I would help in any way I could as long as the shelter stayed clean and they were willing to accept my ideas. The cages and animals were clean and I was very impressed. I tried to encourage her to call me if she needed help.
Anyways, I will post some pictures of Roxie tomorrow, she is a very pretty dark red min pin. She seems like she will be a great addition and if I get her skin cleared up, I can start looking for her a new home.

I could understand if the family was moving or they were ill or they couldn’t afford to care for her.
I frequently get dogs from people who are ill/dying or from families who have a loved one who died and they aren’t dog people, so they don’t want grandma’s grumpy old dog.
I just can’t see discarding an old pet to get a new one. People never cease to amaze me with their callousness. Does the owner even realize the dog is on a death sentence and the minutes are ticking down? The shelters down here still use gas chambers, and stuff them full of live animals. It is horrific!
It is a female named Roxy, thank goodness the shelter called me. The girl (at the shelter) is worried she won’t get a home due to her age. Thank goodness she seems like she has a good head on her shoulders. She said the owner even dropped of the shot records.
The shelter is a very rural one and has had some big problems, but they seem to be trying to improve.
The best thing is that my husband didn’t even hesitate when I told him we were going to take her.
I just had to rant! Why are people so cruel?
I actually got a call from a shelter today. A woman surrendered her 8 year old, spayed, female Min Pin, because her Catahoula had puppies and she was going to keep some pups and didn’t have room for the Min Pin any more. The shelter had sense to keep her seperate from the other unvaccinated, and ill dogs.
Sometimes, I have to turn away shelter dogs due to illness and disease. I can’t afford to bring sick dogs into a home with so many elderly dogs.
I am going to pick her up Saturday if she doesn’t get adopted. I usually take in older dogs (or dogs with diabetes/ medical problems) like this. It never ceases to amaze me how someone can just discard a pet they have had that long on a whim.
I actually find the older females fit right in to the pack and they usually cause less trouble than younger dogs.I just don’t understand how someone could own a pet for 8 years and then just throw it away. This dog doesn’t have any issues and is up to date on shots.
I currently have 10 dogs, but frequently have as many as 13 or 14. Because I take a lot of older dogs, I have the heartache of loosing dogs to disease or age, it breaks my heart every time I loose a dog, but at least I know they had a good life with me, or with their new adoptive home.
It makes me feel good that I don’t have to say no to dogs who have owners who think they are disposable, they are loved at my home and if they are healthy then I find them new forever homes. My husband is wonderful about taking them in also.
Jeeze,
What is a person to do? I was using Nutro Ultra, during the recall I switched to Blue Buffalo, then it got recalled, so then it was Royal Canin. When things calmed down, we went back to Ultra. Maybe we need to go back to Royal Canin.
At over a dollar a pound, you would think someone could make something that was healthy and safe for our pets.
