She is beautiful! I am just amazed at the quality of a lot of these PYO pieces… But the details on Dapples are amazing! I can only hope I can do half as well.

Thanks, I’ve seen tons of gorgeous PYOs people have done here that I would buy if I had more money to toss around on these things. Lol.

For me, I think the trick is to have a light hand with the paint (dont gunk it on really thick), and I tend to use really thinned down paints for the wolves and unicorns (haven’t a clue why), but not for the dragons and kirins. I use lots of thin layers of paint to build colors on them, think more like a watercolor painting as compared to an oil painting.

Good luck, they’re a blast to paint!

Gah, I’m such an Anne Mccaffrey fan, but I just don’t care for the sculpt of Ramoth. 😮

I guess I’ve always pictured her dragons more along the line of Michael Whelan’s artwork for so long that the “real” pictures look wrong. *sigh*

ah well, I still have my little shoulder dragon. *is happy* 😀

I’ll try to remember to keep both of you in mind. 🙂

I’m having a lttle trouble on the head- if I weren’t so picky about how I want it to turn out it might not be so hard, but I seem absolutely incapable of doing some things the easy way. 🙄

Is it bad that I’ve already got about a hundred bucks worth of fabric so once the pattern is set I can start making examples? 😮

in reply to: Peacock Male Repair Picture Tutorial (IMAGE HEAVY) #757144

Wow, thats incredibly helpful. I might try this myself if i get screwed over by Fed Ex (fighting to have my Scratcher replaced that they shattered). I figure the dragon is broken beyond what i considered repair, and If i’m going to be stuck with the thing, I may as well at least use him as a practice piece for this. And if he turns out well, super! I’ll repaint him a fun new color. 🙂

Thank you for taking the time to share this with us!

Oh- as far as paint color, I think Grumbacher (but that may not be the right company) makes some paint in tubes called “Interference paint.” it goes on beautiful over black and is iridescent too. I’ve used it on a latex dragon I painted black and it turns out really close (IMO) to the windstone color. A lot of the PYO artists use it too. Just a thought.

Whaddaya mean, non-dragonny dragon? He’s quite dragonish, and nicely made.

Heh, I meant that he’s not green and scaley, he’s tiger striped and not “traditional”. Thanks. I’m working on a storm-themed black and dark gray one now, and he’s going to have silver metallic thread, and glow in the dark yellow thread embroidered across his wings like lightning. Trying to make him have a forked tail too, but I’m still working to see if I can get that to turn out.

I have a Nessie pattern (or Chessie, if you’re from Virginia) that I drawn up but haven’t had the time to make it to be sure the pattern works right yet. It should- it’s loosly based off my little dragon pattern I made which works fine. And I’m slowly working on making a barn owl pattern now. I love the little guys!

    Did you make that? 😮
    Wow I like it! 🙂

Thanks. They’re not from my pattern (you can find the original pattern online) but yes. I’ve done about four large ones this size now, and three smaller ones of my own pattern. The smaller ones I designed are meant to sit on your shoulder (I’m a fan of Anne McCaffrey’s books), and my gold one looks almost shy. 🙂

That would be Kitchener Waterloo, it’s about 1 1/2 southeast of Toronto. Very nice area. Have fun. 🙂

Thanks. There now. Found a great pet store here about a block from our hotel. I held a gorgeous pink and red albino cornsnake baby (aww!), and a nearly-full grown california kingsnake, who was very sweet. Sadly I can’t take any of them home. *cries*

But, i have a yearling size King at home already, i can’t wait till he gets bigger. And I have a ball python, but she’s still tiny.

It’s beautiful up here, and we saw a deer in a field big enough I thought it was a pony at first. 😮

in reply to: Help!!! Anyone want boxes, packing peanuts? #765137

If you happen to have a scratcher dragon box (even, if i’m so lucky, a peacock scratcher?) I’d take the box full o’ peanuts.

    let me know please. 🙂

Lovely work! I like your choice of gold for the detailing as well, it compliments the piece :).

Thank you. She ended up going to a woman in Greece who just LOVES her! I was so happy she found a good home. I really hadn’t wanted to sell her. Maybe eventually I’ll get another pyo and make one for myself. 🙂

in reply to: I finally found photos of my tiger dragon! #765546

Gasp! I’ve been looking for these for about two or three years now! 🙄 Just stumbled across them the other night. Gah, I need to clean up my harddrive. 😛

This is one of my “soft sculpture” (stuffed) dragons, I’ve always just called him “Tiger.” I don’t know if the man he eventually went to ever named him. He was so fun to make- he has orange spines on the orange areas of his body along his backbone and tail, and where the black stripes meet his spine, he has black spines. I hand-antiqued the horns and large sail down his back, and applied the stripes, made him some nifty eyes that change in the lighting..

I love the complex dragons, the unusual ones. They’re so much more fun to make (or paint, in the case of PYO stuff). I want some more dragons to paint.. 🙁 Anyways, thought someone might get a kick out of seeing a non-dragonny dragon. 🙂

in reply to: EEE! A Peacock Scratcher! #765540

I’m so excited, there’s a peacock scratcher on ebay again, I’m goin for him!

I had won one about two months ago, had it arrive broken, and I’m STILL fighting with Fed Ex and the shipper to get reimbursed for the thing. I’m sick of waiting.

I want a peacock scratcher now! :shout:

Good luck with your sales and trip. I’m actually going up to Canada this weekend- meeting my boyfriend’s extended family in… um.. Kitchner? (I probably spelled that wrong).

Not sure exactly where it’s at.

in reply to: Airbrush Help- brands to purchase? #758467

Koshii- any idea of what they run new (or used?) is that the brand name you would search for when looking for one, say, on ebay?

And that does both the fine paint as well as the wide sprays?

I should just PM you. lol

in reply to: Need to comission an airbrush artist.. #758473

hello again. 🙂 not sure if this should go under the flea market/ trade & swap post, but it’s not about Windstones, so.. not sure. 🙁

This kind of ties in with my other post about which airbrushes are best to use. As of yet, I’ve never touched an airbrush, but would like someone who can paint to paint me a ball python using an airbrush.

Is anyone willing to paint a “normal” looking python in exchange for a blank one of their own to keep?

    Thanks

in reply to: Airbrush Help- brands to purchase? #758465

    hello all.

I’ve been wanting to get into the airbrushing aspect of painting for years. I have (somewhere in storage) one of those cheap little cans of air you use like a airbrush, but I’ve never used it.

I’m hoping some of the airbrush artists hear can offer some recommendations on what brand of “real” airbrush is best. I’d like to be able to vary the amount of paint- thin lines for details up to broad sprays to cover more area- and I’m not sure if they all do that.

Also, are certain brands better than others? Which brands do you use? How expensive are the “preffered” brands? Any helpful tips for using them or painting with them?

Would love to hear from you all. Thanks!
