way to go…..show him off, you deserve it, I’m really glad he went to such a proud mama-enjoy him for many, many years
Don’t be sad-we always knew that day would come, if you deal in retired pieces, you can only go so long. But on the bright side we currently have the hugest inventory on the planet, and will kepp things going as long as we can. At the astounding rate that everyone buys I guestimate a year or so
The new dragons are basically loss leaders-I don’t really make much if anything on them, so we use them to keep the store with a large selection- and keep that kid in a candy store effect going. I actually sell the non retired pieces at reptile expos since their price isn’t as bad as most of the retired ones. I’ll probably phase the non retired dragons out by years end, as its just too costly. Actually since I can’t get a legit account, and theres only so many retired pieces available, I would say the Lost World will be done in about a year—boo hoo but thats the reality of it all…
Bob breeds reptiles and does trade shows and expos to sell them. We decided to try and sell some Windstones last year at one of the shows. They sold really well, so we asked Windstone if we could be dealers but they sadly turned us down because we need a store front. Since then, we have become known at these shows for selling Windstones, they have become great advertising for selling the repitles as well. We get them from a local dealer and we have to pay full retail but its worth it, besides, I love seeing first hand all of the new colors.
Agreed——-they say the only place that has worse traffic is Los Angeles, boy that must be really awful
No unfortunately we are not official Dealers. We tried like heck to get the account, but were denied because we do not have a brick and mortar facility. I would love to be a dealer but I can’t buy or rent a facility to sell windstones, and frankly I have no interest in selling anything else, I don’t even collect anything else and never have. So for now we’ll just be what we are two enthusiasts with a dream
We are Located on Long Island. if anyone on the forum visits L.I. drop us a line we’re always welcoming. Its very nice most of the year, just too damn cold in the winter–I hate the coldLokie’s pix say it all—–I used to have a dog named Loki, my ex wife took him when we split–I really miss that dog-not the wife
Its funny I had so many for so long but din’t want to sell them because I thought they were painting mistakes and were ugly-I never thought anyone would want them- I would put them in the store when all the other “pretty” ones were gone. Probably the rarest one is the hatching empres jade. I had one of them and I THINK DDVM bought it. I remember being worried whether the purchaser was going to complain because it was so weird looking– but it actually turned out to be quite a steal—-any way thats my story on the Jades—
The confusion comes in to play when you talk about oriental dragons. The green ones are named Jade- but theres clearly two differnt models- one is the dark blue green jade- and the other has been flashed with emerald and is that kind of neon green–but technically both were called Jade. Apparently according to Melody- the traditional dragons that appear in the jade form are sort of mistakes, and perhaps only a few batches were made–thus very rare.
I believe the jades were made very early in the history of the emerald dragon. I’ve had probably 12-15 pieces of true jade and all were obtained from very old collections– they never have tags usually very dusty and have been sitting there for ages, and I usually find browns and old greens when I find them, again very old stuff….. continued
the whole topic is a bit confusing so I’ll try to explain as simple as possible
One of Melodys lines was called emerald-they were a relatively early production color so they were fairly variable in color- but the true color being a bright emrald color with some gold flashing. Apparently the emerald start out with a base coat thats in essence a blue green-very dark-then they are flashed over with the lighter emerald color, and then flashed in spots with gold. The jade pieces never get hit with that lighter flash of emerald, they remain a dark blue green- in esence missing the final coat–so you get a very dark blue-green dragon……continued
I remember that picture, that wasn’t a jade—the true full jades stick out like a sore thumb, theres no mistaking them
oops -thats in reference to the kinglet
I would say with almost perfect certainty, that there were no actual jade old warriors. I’ve had all the emeralds in jade. The only pieces I have not seen in jade-were Emperor, old warrior, lap, hatching, kinglet, and hatching emperor, mother coiled. I would say none of those models were produced in jade—–but you never know…….
It’s true, we just got him, he is really nice. He actually looks better in person, the flash wipes out some of the gold highlishts.
hey that dork is kaleeking me now-grand unicorn, although it happens to us probably twice a month. I,m just sick of fighting with these knuckleheads.
to anyone who saw the ad for the young oriental peacock with the nose problem-you now know why my wife does the listings, I am an idiot-just thought you’d like to know
