I’ve always found it interesting how different scents appeal to different people. Especially candle scents. What’s your favorite scent of candle?
mine are: pomegranate, lemon, cinnamon, melon
just a silly question, but I really am curious to know. π πI prefer the musky earthy spicy ones. we don’t use scented candles around here because John is very sensitive to chemicals and scents, but I stick one in the fireplace sometimes.
My favorite “life scents” are rain on cement, horses, and breast fed baby’s heads. The bottle fed ones don’t smell as nice.XD I may have to go around sniffing babies now…

I don’t know when I’ll get the momma griffin for the snow leopard family, or any other naked sculptures for that matter. But I do have a few more things to work on until then…Here’s hoping I can actually figure out how to paint scales! π―

I got these right before packing them up and sending them back to the factory in Hollywood, so hopefully they’ll be seeing ebay soon! π (sorry for any lighting inconsistancies – I’m definitely not a professional picture taker… and I don’t know where my tripod is at the moment, so some of them maybe a tad fuzzy too :/
Here are a couple closeups of the momma griffin:
Here’s the violet snow leopard griffin:
And a couple of shots trying to show the interference violet on his feathers and fur:

-J R R TolkienJune 22, 2008 at 7:48 pm in reply to: My debut! (Tiger Griffins going to ebay!!! more pg 18) #703812I just can’t say! It will depend, I think, on how well the first few sell. If it were up to me, I would like to do another family of snowleopards with light yellow eyes and gold interference instead of violet. We’ll see!

uh…maybe? ;D I don’t know. We’ll probably have to see how the first ones do on ebay!

Tropical, hmm…well of course there are always parrot griffins, with ocelot butts! π …now I want one…

-J R R TolkienThe little barn owl griffin chick is SOOOOO CUTE. That one was floating around the ebay table in the office when I was at the factory months ago, and I loved him. The little owl feathers are so pretty and delicate…
That graphite sun dragon looks like he has…I don’t know, lichen? Lichen I think…growing on his scales…like he’s an old statue out in a damp forest and that pretty gold lichen is growing all over him like a piece of granite. I like him! π

Well, I don’t think that “rival” is the right word! π Nam’s work is my standard of excellence – I aspire to be as good as she is! And you pay me the highest compliment by associating my work with hers, so THANK YOU! ^_^
dragonmedley wrote:travistie wrote:I’m not sure about the gold talons though. Maybe if they were a little darker to match the beak?
I agree with Travistie; the goldness of the talons bothered me too, but the fact that they stand out like that might be due only to the picture.
The beak is showing up weirdly dark…the antiqued gold I used on the talons is actually a darker color gold than the main color of the beak, but it doesn’t show up that way! I could always antique the claws again…thought ideally I wish I could lighten up the beak.

-J R R Tolkienyup, krakens…and beasties. I want to see the beasties too! XD They are floating around in my head, growing weirder…
I also really want to do a series of griffins, using different bird / cat species. I’ve been drawing puffin griffins forever…. mmm and vulture griffins. And raven griffins. And I have an idea for an anthro sculpture of Raven from the myths of the Pacific Northwest, with the sun in his beak. *sigh* someday soon I hope…
I also want to learn to draw comics, darn it!!! I’ve got two comics that are DYING to be drawn and it’s driving me crazy not having the skill to do it…

How about a snow leopard griffin family (the big sculpts)? Or several?
Yes please! π
This depends entirely on whether or not I can continue taking commissions after I’ve finished the ones I already have. If I can, then absolutely! If not…well, there’s always this guy π

(Tiger Griffins going to ebay!!! more pg 18) #703775Here’s the guy I just finished…I’m not sure when the rest of his family will get painted! I’ve got a pair of chicks, but the beak of the sitting chick got chipped on the way up to Oregon, so I either have to repair him or wait for another…and I have no momma griffs at the moment, so she’s on hold ’till I get one! But anyway, here he is…there is gold shimmer on his wings and interference purple on the inside of some of his spots and on some feathers. The purple only really shows up when the light hits him just right, and it sets the lavendar eyes off. π I just HAD to use the lavender eyes (hope you don’t think they make him too ugly, Jen!!) He did get stones since this pic was taken – they are amethyst colored.
Sorry for the crummy picture – I need to dig my nice photo stuff out of it’s box…soon…and then pack it up again for the NEXT move…
Thank you, fauxbird, for letting me practice this color scheme on your PYO π(I’ve got a few other things on the table, but no eyeballs for them so no pics yet! π )
