No, I painted directly on the white scales. I have test painted the interferance over a black base on plaster and didn’t really like the look…not solid enough. This is just the metallics, applied blendingly together in what in the end I guess you could say 2-3 coats. The metallics I find work the all-time best, besides Golden Brand, Are DecoArt’s Metallics Elegant Finish colors. Some apply more solidly than others but overall these are the best. I don’t even have a gloss coat on the Gemstone KiRins scales yet!

Awesome. I have a green eye KiRin and an Orange Eye…havint a black mane, which eye color do you prefer? All the scales will be in rainbow.

Fantastic paint job! I have been asked to paint breyers but haven’t had the heart…now after reading about show classes and all, forget it, LOL. If you have any draft horses you can’t unload though, I might free it up for you and give painting one a try.

This one I just completed and posted to my forum…you’ll have to scroll past the text to see it. I posted it in the same thread as the Gemstone KiRin. I was really inspiried by Arlla’s brown horse KiRin pet portrait and had to try brown scales for myself…make a little shire pony like a hobbit might have. Unfortunately the scales don’t show in the photos the two shades of brown I used. I als added golden interfereance to the belly scales. I’ll try for better pics. again when I have daylight, and redo some of the areas where the gloss pooled on the back. I hate that. I think I’m going to have to spray on the gloss from now on.

You can’t go wrong with a Windstone! Especially since you’re so good at painting them anyway…if you didn’t like something 100% you could sell it and buy mre PYOs to try again.

I think it was you that mentioned you’d like a rainbow-scaled KiRin, and I’d love a koi KiRin painted just like this one by you…wanna trade?

Sometimes messy edged enchanse the realisim of a piece. I prefer to have some messy edged to speak to the hand-painted quality of who did it, rather than machine-perfection…though I do say I love good smooth blends. I don’t see issues with this dragon and although it may be faster and “sloppier” than your usual crackle lava styling, I still love it, better than the griffin version even which did take more time.

Yes, but not sure if I will put this one up next, or the brown one that will be finished later today. The pink one will probably have to wait until I get the pink dragon done too so I won’t show that one yet or sell it without the dragon posted at the same time. If I decide to sell the Gemstone first it will be on ebay later tonight or tomorrow.

Nothing too fancy here, but I just had to paint this:

*scroll down to the photos unless you want to read my long-winded journal entry.

Splendid coloration! I love it more so than the griffin. You have got to do another like this and throw it up on ebay! It’s so wonderfully done.

If you plan to attend I will have a room for sure, probably with one other person too but there’s room for one more to cut the costs down! If anyone is interested in coming I’ll either reserve a room as a con event or have a room party and bring my paints etc.

In the case of a PYO on ebay I will bid against forum members…but generally speaking on production stuff, unless i really MUST HAVE IT and do have the funds, I won’t bid.

As for selling PYOs, I start the item at the original price I paid for the PYO. I know I probably should start higher to cover for materials but I figure my item will sell for at least $50, so that covers my paints. Everything else will be profit and money I can use towards bills and more PYOs. This is why I kinda stopped selling commissions on Ebay…since people seem to want to bid more on something already created rather than a custom job.

IS anyone planning to attend Midwest FurFest in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency in Schaumburg this November? Or maybe just to attend the hotel? If so, I will set up a painting party where we can get together and paint Windstones all night.

Excellent airbrush work! What airbrush do you use?
