My coworker just had to put his dog down the other day. He’s such a great old man. I always get “wow Mandy, you get along with him? I think he’s a jerk!” which that he totally is, but I love his humor. We are like perfect co designers, which is funny because when I first met him I was like “Oh geeze, this Bob Ross looking old man looks very angry because my hair is pink” but he got over it quickly once he realized I was as cynical as him. That being said, he leaves work every night and would buy a roasted chicken from Sam’s Club nextdoor to bring home to his 16 year old Cocker Spaniel Rosie. He would shred the chicken and make her a fresh dinner every night. I feel so bad that he had to put her to sleep.
Speaking of animal issues, Ein isn’t doing too well these days. He’s about 12 now (my Pembroke Corgi) and has suddenly developed a rash of unexplainable nosebleeds. We’ve ruled out allergies and infection. The vet seems to think that he probably his tumors in his nose and a biopsy would require minor surgery, but even if they found out it was cancerous then the operation would be thousands and probably not be very effective in the long run. He is also having a very hard time going up and down the stairs so I’ve resorted to carrying him which he’s finally starting to get used to. The vet wanted to perscribe him asprin to relieve the pain and I was like “Uh…. Asprin… and sudden unexplainable bleeding is probably NOT a good mix.” I swear some people… idiots. For now he’s just living with it, seems to come and go. I guess it’s a common thing with my breed and with his advanced age. I’m bummed he probably won’t be around for too many more years, but I know eventually he has to go. I guess I’ve just been thinking about it alot. It doesn’t seem to phase him one bit though. Other then snoring a lot more then he used to and blowing bloody boogers all over the walls he’s still as playful as ever. Sometimes it’s hard to believe he’s as old as he is. I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be something that progresses quickly and forces me to have to make that horrible decision all pet owners dread.
Shady is still hanging on! I thought he was going to pass away about a year ago when he started to get that “mangy” look about him, but that cat is resiliant. To date he is the oldest cat I’ve ever had, he just turned 25 last week. He’s a bag of bones and has given up all hope as far as grooming goes so he has to have sink baths, but he’s still kicking and purring and drooling the worst stink of cat breath ever. My poor old babies.

December 20, 2014 at 7:17 pm #923316Thanks Ciarnet. It’s been a crappy season for this stuff… burying him lastnight I think was the worst part. The ground was so cold it just felt awful putting him in the cold ground…he went quickly at least while at the vet and I stayed with him until he was gone.

My mom used to take Synthroid for her under-active thyroid and switched to natural supplements and hasn’t had to take Synthyroid since. Her thyroid levels are normal now too but she needs to keep taking the natural supplements to keep them working and producing enough hormone on their own. I have adrenal fatigue myself which can be related to the thyroid and I have all kinds of weird symptoms. I got that from being under constant stress the last few years with foreclosures and moving all the time and having bad luck with stressful jobs, bad neighbors and friends and getting out of a bad relationship. I am always cold and tired too, and never feel very good or energetic but that can be related to my depression as well I think. I take AdrenaSmart which is also a natural supplement like the thyroid ones and it seems to help boost the adrenals. If anyone hasn’t heard of Adrenal fatigue, I would recommend looking it up because most people aren’t aware they have it.
Dragonfeathers, sorry to hear about your kitty! My cat Ashley is also really old and super skinny and doesn’t lick her fur anymore either so she gets matty and then she yells at us when we try to groom her. She doesn’t want to give up on life though so I will leave that up to her I think as she still eats well and everything. It is just weird petting her because you feel her bones so I feel sorry for her but the vet told us before she probably had a kidney or liver problem from old age and there was nothing we could do, so for now she is as good as she can be I guess.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
December 21, 2014 at 4:46 pm #923343Yea… you couldn’t pet much on Shady without getting a little skeeved out. His hip bones, shoulder blades, and brest bone (sternum i guess) were particularly… unsettling to pet, but he loved being touched nonetheless so I still gave him pets though many visitors would tend to want him to stay away. He was scary looking compared to how gorgeous he was when he was younger, but he was still the same cat. I’d like to see other 25 year old cats and see how they fair in a beauty contest. They wastewaste away just like an elderly person does.

During the days leading up to Christmas Week and in-between Christmas and New Year’e Eve Holidays, I try to catch up on stuff; clean out files, and get stuff ready for the New Year. Most of our Association clients are on holiday and we don’t receive many jobs in. However, it looks like clients are still submitting jobs – doing ‘Drop & Runs’ and still expecting the projects to be completed in a few days even though OUR department’s staff is also light (WE have off too you know!). To top that off, I’ve been terribly busy – more than usual at work – since they’ve reorganized our department, and basically completely rewritten and shuffled around most all of our department’s staff roles and responsibilites.
I’m still finishing up on older items while starting new responsibilities and transitioning to other ones, which were previously done by other staff members; now to be MY primary role where before I had not been responsible at all for it, or it had been a secondary role for me. You’ve heard of how long it takes to turn a Luxury Liner? Well, it doesn’t turn on a dime and that’s almost what our department’s Directors are trying to have us do. We started moving roles, responsibilities and processes, etc., in early November, with the expectation that everything would be in place the beginning of December or definitely by the start of January 2015 (even w/Holidays and vacation schedules).
It’s been Awful for some of us ,since some of our new responsibilities, and the new processes, are as Clear as Mud because of all the additional layers of processes (almost micro-managing in my opinion) being put on top of everything! Some people are now expected to do Totally different work that they need training for – and I’m not the only person who feels this way. And it hasn’t gotten any better… And we have only three more working days before January 2015 (in-between Holidays where most all of our staff is out) when everyone’s new roles and responsibilities are supposed to begin as they were rewritten!
Oh gee… I’m So Sorry for the rant so close to Christmas and the Holidays. I will be fine and will work with whatever I’m given to do; I figure things out rather quickly and adapt, and I don’t complain normally… I just had a little quite time before I get started on my last day at work before the Holidays and I know I have a sympathetic ear with you guys… every one of you is really great! I love the people on this Forum! 🙂

Yea… thank you prezaurian. I’ve actually been trying to avoid facebook and the forum just cause I’ve been a totally miserable hum bug at this point. I hate this time of year as it is and this just added to the reasons why.

It hurts every time, even though you know it will come. It’s one of life’s worst things that their lives are so short compared to ours.
My family lost 2 dogs this year, and Snotface the ranchu from a couple years ago is weighing on me today, so yeah. Happy holidays (sarcasm).
Hoping and praying we all have better new year, and that you’re able to move Drag0n.Today is one of the bad ones, it’s good we’re at my BIL’s since I don’t know where he has the sharp stuff, a we wouldn’t even BE in this situation if I wasn’t such a loser day. I could just use a hug, at least my a lot of my plants are being cheery right now.
December 27, 2014 at 6:46 pm #923519Sorry to hear that Pipsxlch about your dogs and everything else. I hope things get better for you and that you are able to find work. I know the holidays can be a hard time for a lot of people. I need to find a job too if I can as my coverage is going to be cut off this month since I have been unable to work as well. At least I have managed to sell some things for the holidays to have money for other things but it’s always tight. I hope things get better in the new year for everyone!

December 29, 2014 at 6:14 pm #923539just want to whine..blah..
so my laptop is dying a lot. I get half an hour before it blue screens me. wont save stuff, mouse wont work, i could go on i have a list of problems on top of the scary blue screen of death…blahi learned that my 82 year old grandmother has more energy than i do with lupus.
I learned that apperently my faimly gave my skiis away when they moved even though my mom swore up and down that they still had them. Yet another mysterious pair of ancient skiis whom i have no idea to whom they belong appeared and mom thinks they are are mine. they are way to freakin long for me to ski on. which means that laundry wasted 60 dollars to send a pair of special oversize ski boxes so i could mail them back to her for Christmas. There goes my christmas present to her. Where? I have no idea.
And then, I was trying to use my moms mac since my computer isn’t working (great timing, not)
and appernetly I cannot use my portable hard drive with the mac cause my hard drive is windows format, not a mac. so my completely filled camera card cannot be cleard and backed up. ugh/ my day today.. I am exhausted.Recently married to the ever lovable BiPolarBear (little John)
