Oh that’s not fun. Did they remember it was their birthday? I know my dad is bad at remembering my birthday. He didn’t call or wish me a Happy Birthday this year but I don’t take it personally because I think he just didn’t remember. If he did I am sure he would call so I cut him slack as he’s getting older. If they did know though, they should have wished them Happy Birthday, I agree!

June 12, 2014 at 10:05 pm #914063ARRGH!! This is really more of a rant, but some kid pulled the fire alarm for our apartment building- AGAIN, but ran off this time. What an alarm clock for an late morning nap!!! I almost flipped out of my bed.
I am sick and flared up again, feel like crap, have pounding headache and just want to sleep…. and then I feel guilty cause I am really too sick to work on my art right now and feel like I should be up working a lot more..i feel lazy and non productive…what does it take to get some quiet? :(( And my poor kitties ears..scares the living daylights out of her..
I guess I kinda carved a crude mini stamp today to stamp the passports of the fuzzy laundry and I end up hosting but that is all I have done in the past week after hurting my back and….blah
I am sick and tired of being sick and tired…whine….

A neighbor I barely knew dumped his dog pooh by my door. (I think he was eventually evicted, but that was after I moved.) For what it’s worth, you have my support.

So glad the dog bounced back. (Though when I read this at first I thought you meant your sister had an eye removed…)
June 15, 2014 at 8:00 pm #914203Oh no no! I re-read it and fixed it. Yea… it did sound like that didn’t it? Oops

Anyway, I just ran into a bad situation and now I keep having nightmares. Long story short, my sister and I own a two family together we share. She is a function coordinator so she works really long hours on Friday/Saturday/Sundays since that’s when most people have their weddings/birthdays/showers/etc. So it’s pretty normal for me to, on those days, stop into her apartment and let her dog out to use the bathroom, especially the past few months since the dog had surgey and had an eye recently removed that was really bad from catarax (I probably spelled that wrong).
She’s an old Pomeranian named Poopie (yes Poopie), probably about 17 years old now I think. So I do my routine thing, I stop down there on Friday night (Friday the 13th at that) and try to find her. She was in a weird place, under the kitchen table. Just not a usual spot, but she seemed fine. You have to pick her up to bring her outside since now she’s almost blind we are afraid of her hurting herself jumping down the concrete landing to the grass for her to use the bathroom. So I do that, she was barking away for a few minutes as she usually does. After a few minutes I grab her and set her down back in the apartment.
I usually feed her too, so I was getting her food together and suddenly she fell over (not trying to be comical, but she looked like those youtube videos when goats fall over with all their legs sticking up in the air) she started shaking and gasping for air! I dropped everything and ran over and cradled her head to keep her from smashing it into the tile floor repeatedly. She peed and pooped herself gasped a few more times deeply and then just stopped breathing. I had no clue what the hell to do! I started slapping her chest and after the longest probably 45 seconds she started jerking around in my hands trying to breathe. Finally her chest started moving again and she was back to gasping for air. I started screaming for my boyfriend who was upstairs watching TV to call my sister. I was going to take her to the emergency vet. My sister of course was frantic over the phone hearing her gurgling breathing in the background while I am trying to explain what happened. In everything that was going on, my dog, comes down the stairs from my apartment and wants to see what’s going on. He put his nose to her ear and sniffed and then sneezed. The noise or sensation startled Poopie and she jerked up and was totally fine again! A little wobbly and short of breath for a few minutes, but up and walking and wanting to eat the food I had on the counter! 0.o In the mean time I was like “What the hell just happened?!” She seems fine now, it was just bizzare and very unnerving to say the least.
I’m assuming it was a seizure of some sort. She’s going for tests Monday, but the whole thing was a nightmare. Now I’ve been dreaming about all my animals dying the past two nights >_<

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsJune 15, 2014 at 9:05 pm #914209Oh gosh, Drag0n, that is a recent nightmare I understand all too well. *huge hugs* The day before we let Sissy go I was alone with the dogs, and she had a seizure. It was already pretty nightmarish before that, as she had been uncomfortable, circling and meandering, and just not herself for the past few days. Her seizure seemed to go on for so long, and I felt so incredibly helpless, I just held on to her, and made sure she knew I was there. She ended up having another seizure during the night, while my brother sat up with her.
June 15, 2014 at 10:30 pm #914213Her tounge is hanging weird now when she pants and her head has been cocked on a constant basis as well, but there’s nothing wrong with her ears. (since usualy when animals do that they have an ear infection or something) At least that’s what my sister told me. We’re almost wondering if she had a stroke? She’s not acting uncomfortable or anything and seems happy and has a good appetite. The whole thing is really strange. I do think that it’s probably the beginging of the end though. She probably has another few months tops. As far as we know she’s never had seizures before and among her laundry list of ailments (including being blind and deaf) her quality of life is in question at this point. I know my sister won’t have the heart to put her down until she’s visible uncomfortable, but I just hope she doesn’t wait so long that she dies horribly. It sounds awful to say, but her last dog and cat as well, she waited too long in my opinion and I don’t want to watch an animal go through that again.
I do understand where she’s coming from though. I am constantly haunted by the last cat I put to sleep. I always wonder if I did it too early and if she maybe would have gotten better and lasted a few more months or even years. I just didn’t want her to suffer anymore and she was already about 16-17 years old so it seemed the right thing to do at the time. She couldn’t even walk and seemed very at peace during the whole thing, but they had to give her a doule dose of euthenazia for her to actually pass on and it has bothered me so much. Like, maybe she wasn’t ready or maybe if I had given her more time she could have been strong enough to get better for a while longer (augh, can’t even keep talking about it, I’m gonna start to cry)
What bothers me is we also had a cat Bubbas who was in equally poor condition around the same age several years prior and spent $5000 to save him but he lived until he was 22 so you just never know. I’m sure he was a 1 out of a 100 case, but I hate thinking I gave up on her.
When you’re a pet owner, you just see a change in their eyes. It’s that glazed over look when you know their mind if ready when their body is not. It still haunts me though. I’m sure the guilt of waiting too long is equally heart breaking. Ugh, I have to stop typing now.

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsJune 16, 2014 at 12:17 am #914218Sorry to hear about the dog! If she exhibits some symptoms after with her tongue or head then maybe it could have been a stroke but it’s hard to know. I didn’t start thinking about this til our rescue kitty had her kittens a couple days ago but suddenly I had flash backs to when I was a child and we had a fluffy black and white kitty that had kittens. All I remember is that she was in a cupboard with them and as I watched them after they had been born they all started shaking in a strange way and looked like they were dying. I watched helplessly as the poor things stopped breathing and moving I picked one up and took it out to my mom in the kitchen and the poor thing was already gone. All the kittens died right after they were born and I still don’t know why. It almost looked like they had a virus or something in the air attack them but I have no idea and now when I look at our new kitty with her kittens I keep thinking back to that and it’s upsetting.

June 16, 2014 at 6:56 pm #914233I had something similar to that happen as well when I was like 10 years old. We had an all black cat named Spooky who delivered 5 mixed color kittens. Black and white mostly. She had litters before so we were surprised when she didn’t want anything to do with the kittens. We tried to bottle feed them but one by one they died. One right in my hands as I was feeding it. That was one of those traumatizing moments in my life I remember clearly from my childhood. There must have been something wrong with hem from the start and the mother sensed it. We tried to save them, but the whole litter passed. Shortly after she ran away and I never saw her again 🙁

She had another seizure and it was even worse then before. My sister rushed her to the vet and they put her out of her misery. The seizure had passed, but she hadn’t eaten since a little after she had the first seizure. Being deaf and blind, food was about her only joy left in life. She was even beginging to get afraid of being touched because it would trigger small tremors fro her being so scared. So, she is gone now. Our household is very quiet today without her. My sister is devestated.

June 17, 2014 at 7:42 pm #914267It’s so hard to let them go. Even when they are hurting it is so easy to just want to keep trying. It shows a lot of strength to be able to let them go when they need to. It’s the last act of respect and kindness you can show them.
I am truly sorry for your family’s loss.
I wish you all peace and the ability to be able to remember all the happiness and joy that Poopie brought to your lives.Looking for:
