December 28, 2013 at 5:19 pm #907022Just need to whine. The dry air combined with a need to frequently wash my hands is causing me excessively dry skin on the backs of my hands. It’s so bad, that it’s either cracking and bleeding in places (my knuckles look like I went 12 rounds with a wall), or looks like I kept burning my hand against a hot iron in others. It hurts so bad all the time! Moisturizing and Vitamin E soaps have only provided minimal relief. The nurses at my work highly recommended two skin care products, however, they both contain petroleum or other refined oil based ingredients. Which I’m trying to avoid, so I’m using them sparingly. And night is the only time I can use these products as they get washed off in the frequent hand washing. I think I’m going to buy coconut oil tomorrow and maybe soak gloves in it and wear them every night lol Maybe this will become a Heck Yeah soon enough =)
My aunt’s a florist and her hands are also very dry. She said that when it gets really bad, she slathers on regular hand cream and puts on small cotton socks on her hands just before going to bed. Dunno if that would be any help…
I worked as a florist as well and the stuff I used all the time had been developed for deep sea commercial fishing (lots of cold salt water…) It’s Eucerin Hand Cream. Comes in a jar, not a tube, is very thick, sorta like lard or Crisco (that just sounds gross…) but it works a charm. Put it on (lots) rub in til the skin won’t absorb any more then put on cotton gloves. Works a treat. I also use it on the heels of my feet durinng the winter when they crack and bleed, only I put on wool socks ‘stead of gloves… *snerk!*

happened to me a couple of months ago, it will hurt less tomorrow, I remember thinking the next day “why don’t you hurt anymore?” moving on, I was told to soak it a bit in hot water, I think 15-20 mins, I only managed one day of that and I also tried Epsom salts but that hurt like the dickens and I wouldn’t recommend it, tried that at another person’s suggestion….anyhoo, our foot doctor family friend said it can be covered with a bandaid and a little neosporin under it for a bit….the left over toenail will probably fall out later or you may have to lightly tug it out in a few weeks if it seems loose…and you should have a toenail back in about a year…..mine has grown back about half way and is kinda yellowy but perhaps the doctor meant a year for a normal looking nail….
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinDecember 28, 2013 at 10:43 pm #907032Thankies! I’ll give it a shot (just not the epsom salts 🙂 ) Am in the middle of piecing a quilt so it’ll prolly waittil this evening. Luckily it’s not my sewing machine foot…

Surgeon’s Skin Secret is great too. I even use it to keep my lips from getting chapped.

I had something very similar happen to me when I was a kid. I was at a friend’s house, and afterwards had to make the slow walk home over a field of crusty snow. Absolutely excruciating. As fatalbeauty mentioned, the toenail will grow back after the old one falls off the rest of the way (if yours hasn’t already). Mine grew back with a weird bulb of extra nail at the tip, which I was able to cut off once it got long enough.
December 29, 2013 at 7:33 pm #907046I’ve continued to have itchy bumps show up on my skin, which sometimes drive me crazy, and they don’t go away. They just stay. Been 2 months of this now although for a while it was only 1 bump.
Grr.

December 31, 2013 at 3:05 am #907103I know I already did a “me too!”, but I am also having some kind of skin issue. I plan on seeing the doctor after the new year, because it is getting ridiculous. It started out as what I thought was just a bit of dry skin (not unusual), and then it just exploded into nasty, burning, itchy patches all over the backs of my hands and around my wrists. Not sure if it is an allergic reaction, some sort of infection, or what. It is getting so bad that other people are starting to notice and comment on it at work. “Did you burn yourself?” “What happened, are you sick?” “What did you get into?” 🙁 🙁 🙁
January 5, 2014 at 3:48 am #907436Well, after 10 years of driving, I’m no longer accident-free. This evening I was on my way home from the gym- and I wouldn’t have gone if it had been a far drive, because it’s quite snowy out there, but it’s only a few blocks away. I’m always very careful in the snow, too, never had any issues but nothing can be done about the driving of other people.
Well, on my way home I got into the turn lane in the middle of the street and sat there with my turn signal on waiting to turn left onto the residential street leading into my neighborhood. I was waiting for an SUV that was coming up the street. Well, suddenly I saw the SUV start to go all swervy on the snow; according to him another car pulled out in front of him but I hadn’t noticed that. I could tell he was trying to brake but the snow complicated things and he kept coming and swerving and plowed into the front of my car (actually my husband’s car). I saw him coming and wanted to move but just didn’t have time.
I was wearing my seatbelt and he must’ve been too. Nobody got hurt so that is good. He came out of his SUV yelling in anger though- not yelling at me but just yelling and cussing in anger. The other car that apparently got in his way never stopped, just kept going and left. So we exchanged our info & everything, and I used his cell phone to call my husband who was at home very close by so he drove to me in my Honda. He was able to drive his Firebird home carefully but the front is super messed up and smashed in and I smelled smoke. The tire was rubbing on the fender, and all the lights inside and out stopped working. It’s actually probably totalled because the radiator core support seems to be bent and that’s part of the body. The claims adjustor has to come examine it though and decide if it’s totalled. Which also means we have to keep our paws off it and leave it just how it is which is difficult for us.The situation is complicated by the fact that even if it’s declared totalled, my husband wants to keep it for some of the stuff on it so that means we won’t get much if any money from the insurance company! I don’t know what’s gonna happen.
This will also suck if my insurance rates get raised. I’m hoping it won’t since it was 100% NOT my fault. In the meantime we’re kinda screwed for transportation since we both work. We have a few vehicles but that Firebird and Honda are the only ones which are currently running. I talked to my insurance company already to report the accident and they said we could get a rental car by paying for it out of pocket and then get reimbursed for it later, but that means we’d have to have the money for that now in the first place which we don’t! Ugh.

January 5, 2014 at 3:54 am #907437This happened tonight? Well, I’m really glad you’re not hurt, but you may be in pain tomorrow from the impact – muscles, most likely. Do be on the lookout for it, especially in the neck. You’re stressed now, so when the adrenaline wears off, you might feel it. If you do, make sure to get it checked out, just in case.
Hugs!
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

If it’s totally his fault, you can call and make his insurance cover the rental so you don’t have any out of pocket expenses. I’ve done this in the last two accidents we were in (somehow, I manage to get hit at stop signs and in parking lots a lot…) They’ll just call and confirm with him that he hit you, then they should call and arrange the rental.

Yep, it happened tonight. Thanks for the advice- it didn’t seem so bad, he was slowed down a good bit before hitting me but it did end up being more of a jolt than I thought it’d be. My head feels weird, a little shaken up but nothing significant (my head didn’t hit anything).

Oh really? Interesting, I’ll have to try that! Thanks, I appreciate it! That’s weird though. My insurance company said they were willing to cover a rental, but only as reimbursement, not right away I guess. If insurance companies can arrange and pay for it up front, why won’t mine? 😐 I’ll try tomorrow to see if the other dude’s insurance will.

January 5, 2014 at 6:39 am #907447Well that sucks when it’s someone else’s fault and messes up your car. Hope you can get the insurance to replace it and cover expenses.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
January 5, 2014 at 3:17 pm #907458Scary! I’m glad you are all right.

Mine was the same way! I called my agent first and he said they could cover it eventually, but only after I returned it. He was the one who said I could call the other insurance agency though and generally they would cover it upfront. It was strange, but he was right and it’s worked a couple of times for us.
