Thanks guys for the stuff regardign the relationship issues… so far things are “almost” back to normal I guess… I dunno. We’re doing that whole “ignoring the problem and hoping it just ges away on it’s own thing” which I know isn’t the right thing to do, but I just am sick of fighting. I’ve lost the energy to even argue any more abut it and I’m planning on saving up a nest egg after I get some people paid off (commissions and what not) just incase things go sour and I have to boot him out of the house… if things work out then that’s great, but if not I don’t want to end up struggling.
Speaking of… my whine for today. I went to grab a fe groceries with the money I had left over after getting my new tires (like 40 bucks) and had enough to get cat food, dogfood, and cat litter… and a pizza for me and shaun. (damn animals eat more then we do, LOL) and my neighrbor who is on welfare, has a new lexus and also a brand new I phone since she was gabbing on it about going to the casino while checking out bought $400 worth of groceries and paid for it all with food stamps…..*annoyed* Now don’t get me wrong, I’m for government assistance….FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T ABUSE IT! In the mean time people who are working their butts off have to strugle while people who don’t work and leech off the system live like fat cats. I’m so tired of this crap!
Thanksgiving is going to be a real hoot this year. My step brother and hsi wife just both got on permanenet disability apparently. (they were talking about it on facebook)Okay, so I kow these people… no relation, but they are family… there is NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM! They are overweight… and that’s about it. PERFECTLY capable of working! *rant*

People like that tick me off. I was in the situation of needs help (PTSD and a week from eviction) and had doctors notes saying I couldn’t work because of the PTSD and had to fight and argue with the workers to get anything. The thing that really ticked me off was the day I was waiting for an appointment at 8:30am and had to listen to a woman waiting with me who was very drunk, whom you see almost literally see the alcohol fumes radiating off of, with a ‘water’ bottle that had a suspicious smell, go on about how she got over a grand a month and low income housing so she still had almost 500 after everything and didn’t have to work and could drink all day and the government paid for it.
Sounds like the system is just as broken there as it is here.
I wonder if there isn’t a way to turn them in for fraud. I’d say ownership of a new Lexus and iPhone are evidence of fraud.
Yea I had to cut that short because I was at work, but to continue with that rant… so now yea… they can both sit on their fat butts and do NOTHING and get paid for it. In the meantime they JUST bought a 72″ flat screen TV so when the husband plays Call of Duty online he can sit on the couch and not have to be too close to the TV… you know… cause their old 40″ plasma just wasn’t good enough for them. *bangs head into wall* Meanwhile, my sister and I both work 2 jobs, get taxed like 33%-40% depending on what stupid new tax MA decides to throw on us and they get their food and housing all paid for with government assistance. Oh by the way, they JUST posted that they got a new Land Rover…. seriously!?!?!? I am not going to be able to shut my big mouth during the holidays man… if they start with anything about “oh poor me” like they always do… I’m not going to be able to control myself. They are both big into politics and are always going on and on about how the rich don’t pay enough taxes blah blah blah….DUDE!!! No matter your view on politics (I don’t want to open a can of worms there, but regardless of how you feel) They should not even be ALLOWED to HAVE an OPINION when they’re ENTIRE life is a free hand out! *end of rant* I’m sorry, it’s just infuriating! Some people who really NEED assistance are crying in a gutter while most people just work the system and bend the middle class over more while the economy is too poor to give us any raises, but the price of living just keep rising. It’s not even fair anymore, a girl my sister works with also just quit cause she got disability cause she’s “afraid to drive” 0.o yea… you heard right… afraid to drive. TAKE A BUS! CALL A CAB! AHHHHHHHHH! I could go on all day with this crap! >_< The only good thing, is since I am in such a bad mood today, one of my coworkers brought me in a "ghost pepper" during his lunch. He grows them at home and supposedly they are one of the hottest peppers on earth. He's going to dehydrate it for me so I can grind it up and put it in the buffalo sauce of the buffalo wings I am bringing to thanksgiving *evil grin* The ones the couple I was talking about ALWAYS hogs and leaves none for anyone else. MWA HAHAHA!

Please, this system is so broken nothing would ever even happen. On the news there was a firefighter who just got caught for fraud from collecting disability for an old back injury for like 8 years or something like that because he entered an iron man competition! If it wasn’t brought to media attention, (or if it wasn’t SO BLANTENT that it was fraud… I mean, come on. Entering an iron man competition? How stupid can you be?) nothing would have ever have been done, and even now since he’s union they legally can’t take the diability away from him until after a court finds him guilty which is just going to be dragged out another 2 or 3 years while he STILL is getting paid. This system is effed!!! >_<

I saw a rant from my SIL on Facebook about how the poor don’t get enough assistance on food stamps.
On a lark, I went and “pretended” to make minimum wage on the online “aid calculator” for our state. If I (and my husband) made minimum wage, we could get over $700/month in food stamps. Plus we would qualify for free health care through the state, a housing subsidy, and reduced day care costs through different programs.
If one of us wasn’t working at all, the benefits got even better!
It’s just crazy – I’ve worked really, really hard to get an education and a good job – and it turns out if I worked at McDonald’s I’d be better off…

My mom was complaining when me and my sister were babies she stayed at home and my dad worked full time and they made less than their neighbour who got $1000/ month on welfare with one child.
Although my mom did mention that she gets a huge tax return (I forget what the specific thing is called) because technically she would make more money on welfare than she does by income, so the government added money to her tax return as like, a thank you incentive for actually working.
My sister has downsyndrome and is only 22 and really wants to either work or volunteer full time. Right now ODSP is giving her $1000/ month on disability which is fine I guess, but she wants to work. So her and my mom have been calling in trying to get her a placement. She needs a lot more training than someone else would for whatever job she would be placed in, so ODSP would have to help her. She couldn’t just drop off a resume and get a job normally. But ODSP is being totally unhelpful, because they simply aren’t used to people on disability actually wanting to work. They technically have payment systems set up for people who have issues and want to work, for example paying for a voice command computer for someone who is blind. But I guess most people would rather sit at home and get the same amount of money, right?
Anyway the ODSP people, after my mom complaining about their total lack of help with my sister, basically accused my mom of trying to “force” my sister to work against her will.
Personally, on one hand it irritates me reading stuff on facebook about how people on welfare should have to take drug tests, and people who get free meals from salvation army should have to prove their income, but at the same time welfare should not be more money than a minimum wage job (I don’t think it is anymore though), and disability should be for people who actually can’t work. I’m not sure how the laws differ between canada and the states here though, I’ve heard canada is way more lenient on giving out money than the states, but after reading all your comments I don’t know.
Oh man, it feels like we THROW money at people in MA. When Shaun lost his job last year I was REALLY considering asking for food stamps. I felt “low” even thinking about it, but when we called (in hindsight I wish we had this on tape! I would have a FIELD DAY with the media)
My boyfriend explained he had lost his job suddenly and we needed assistance. Before she would even hear any of what he had to say, she asked his race to which he responded “well, I’m white” and then she asked if I was pregnant to which he responded. “Umm… no” and then she said Sorry, we can’t help you and hung up on his face! So yea… I guess it all depends on who you are in MA. *shrug*
Now I’m not saying people shouldn’t get assistance if they need it… but in MA, you can be on Welfare an entire fiscal year… and get a TAX RETURN?! On what income???? They didn’t have a job for not a day of that year! THAT drives me crazy! >_< Sounds like Canada has it together a lot more then the US these days. They should give monetary incentive for WORKING!

But I agree, it’s beyond my understanding that it could be more financially profitable to be on welfare than to hold a regular job!
I think it varies by which state you live in. I’m not sure it’s the case everywhere.
Having kids makes a difference too – it might be harder if you don’t have a family.
But still – kind of ridiculous.
Yea, the responsible are punished because they realize “hey, I can barely support myself, maybe I should not have a child. I’m going to protect myself so I don’t run into a bad situation and I’ll wait until I am at my job long enough where if I do get pregnant I can take paid leave after I get that big promotion” …. as opposed to being “Oh boy, I love kids! I should totally have one! Oh wait, that’s right, kids need food right? Maybe I should get a job? Oh what? I’m already pregnant… what do you mean I get free money because I have no job and a child? SWEET DEAL!? You mean if I keep having kids I get MORE MONEY? Oh, and an additional $3000 per kid at tax time!? SWEETER DEAL!! Oh cool, I’m in MA so I also get free child care (that I don’t need cause I don’t work) but now I have time to drive in my free car and talk on my free cell phone! Well… hot damn! I guess are like cats right, once you have one you may as well have 10 right? KA-CHING!!! Maybe if I have 10 kids I can get 10 free cars?” (yes, in MA, you can get a free car from the government to help you “find a job” if you don’t have one and you need the free cell phone for “possible interview callbacks”) *rolls eyes* They wonder way MA is one of the worst states for taxes.
My friend/coworker Peter has a 4 year old. Sweet kid and no complaints, but because he has a son(has the same job and makes the same money as I do) he gets a $5000 tax return each year and I get about $800 because I was smart and didn’t have one because I wasn’t (and probably will never be) financially ready. I don’t know if it’s just MA, but the percentage increase is CRAZY for having kids!!!! If the government wants to do that because someone has kids, fine, great… how about putting it into scholarships or educational funding for those children (per household, for each child)instead so they can have their school paid for when they are older. Then they get a proper education instead of mom and dad buying a new car or flat screen, and then the newly educated masses are able to go get JOBS with their new skills!!! >_< Then we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place! LOL! I'm not even smart and I can figure that out!

When my mom was asking the lady at ODSP about why they haven’t done anything in months to help my sister, her response was just as rude. They got my sister a placement at this recycling plant, and expected her to stay on her feet for 8 hours and mop floors, which she refused to do, so they deemed her “unemployable” and left it at that. So then my mom calls and the lady first asks why she doesn’t just go apply at mcdonalds, then says it sounds like my mom is forcing her to get a job, and then says “All I hear from you is “I, I , I”, what about what SHE wants?” umm yeah, the only reason my mom had to call and get so angry was because they’d left it for months. That’s months of my sister sitting around watching tv all day, depressed because she thinks she’s a bum for not working.
As far as the child thing goes, my brother’s friend got his girlfriend pregant when they were both 15. So she has a baby at 16, her parents are both crackheads who’ve long kicked her out and she’s living with the boyfriend’s mom. She goes through this phase of “well I’m pregnant buy me stuff!” with everyone, but after she has the baby things actually get better. She was on welfare while she was pregnant and for some time after, but since she’s so young CPA was really on her to make sure the baby was cared for. So they gave her a lot of money to get a place, and then found her a place to work and cut her off. Now she’s working full time, supporting her boyfriend who doesn’t work, and the baby, with no help from any parents or anyone. And for a while I’m sure everyone’s opinion was that she was lazy, stupid for getting pregnant, and mooching off the system. But it actually really kicked her life in the right direction. From everything I’ve heard she’s been doing great for the baby, not doing drugs or drinking or anything, which is impressive considering the childhood she had.
I guess the point of my ramblings is sometimes people DO use the system to actually improve their life.
