I think people just really fall in love with certain ones and want to feel like they did _everything_ to try for that special piece. So it is kind of understandable, but it’s just happening too much when people are getting uncomfortable to post photos of their babies.
If I posted a pic and said “I really would like to keep this one, so no PMs please”, and still got PMs, I’d just ignore/delete them if I didn’t want to deal with it. Sender feels like they did everything they could at least, recipient chooses if they want to read or not.

Perhaps eliminating the “group photo” would cut down on the angst. A notice that the new batch has crazy colors and sparkles would be enough to grab peoples’ interest. No photo means no chance for people to fall in love and be disappointed, since they wouldn’t be able to see all the possibilities in advance.
September 3, 2011 at 11:41 pm #855279I adore the whole grab bag idea and the beautiful baby unicorns I got, but I can understand why some people have been upset over the experience. I’m excited to see the photos of everyone’s new arrivals, and even if I see an awesome uni I would love to have, I’m thrilled for the new owner. I love seeing how excited people are over their new little ones and how much fun forum members are having trading for new unis. I also understand though why people get angry and sort of obsessive about these grab bags. It’s hard to see something you really want and know you can’t have it. It’s also hard to see these lovely unis and not get one time after time.
I know there are some greedy people out there, but these grab bag editions are made with so much love for us, that I can’t see these grab bags as a bad thing. I hope no one gets too sad about missing the unicorns or lets a few bad apples ruin their fun.
I guarantee Melody will create something just as awesome for all of us next week and the week after that (no pressure, Melody! 😉 ). I try to keep the bigger picture in mind and that there will be more grab bag editions and even more Windstone Editions in general, and that we all are on this website because we love Melody’s artwork. I can’t seem to stay too upset about anything once I think about all the new Windstones coming out in the future!

I agree with you, Chrisherself. I got a number of PMs already about the pictures of the baby unis I just put up last night. I don’t plan to sell or trade them, and I think I made that pretty clear when I posted the photos. I actually don’t mind the PMs though. I can understand someone liking the grab bag babies I got; I do too! lol 😀 I can also understand why someone might get upset over creepy or excessive PMs too though.
Personally, if I get a PM with a request for something I’ve posted, I just keep it in case I ever sell. If I know I will never sell (like with these two unis), I reply with that, and let it go. If the person keeps sending me requests, I just delete them after that. I don’t log-in here as much as I should anyway, so no one can really bug me too much! lol :p
I hope no one goes into hiding or does not even post their pictures though. Most of us would never bug someone via PM over and over. Anyone who is nervous about posting pictures, please post them. I would love to see your new little ones! If someone is really being overly aggressive or annoying, I bet Jennifer or someone at Windstones would step in if you request help too.
September 4, 2011 at 12:09 am #855283I’ll see what I can do in the trade forum re: many grab bag unicorn threads. I regret that I will unintentionally ‘bump’ many topics in doing so– everyone that has an active sales or trade thread that is NOT related to the grab bag unicorns may bump their thread one time, just this once, since I am doing this. I am trying to keep things happy and fun. 🙂

That’s an awesome idea Jenn!

I can’t believe no one has thought of this yet, but I think you hit the nail on the head. Not till the photos are posted do people start getting attached and competitive. What about, in the future, having something more like the store photo? With a sampling of the colors instead of showing every piece. I really really really love seeing all the new babies that I have a possibility of getting before purchasing, but these advance photos are TOO effective at hyping the pieces I guess….
September 4, 2011 at 12:41 am #855296If you guys think that the group photo elimination would help things out, please do suggest it to Melody. The power of the squeak and all!
They still need to put a photo of a few in the store when they list them, but you may be on to something re: the group photo. I don’t know that it will help to keep them from selling out so fast, but it might at least cut down on everyone scrambling to get the same individual piece. Also, I apologize again for bumping all of those threads in the flea market. I hope no one is upset that I locked the threads, but this way they will fall back while the active threads move up on the list. No one is in trouble and no one broke any rules by posting their grab-bag unicorn threads in the flea market! I’m just trying to help organize, especially since the ‘storm’ has only begun…

Absolutely great idea, and it’s even going to make it easier for those wanting to buy/sell/trade those baby unis! So good for everyone!
September 4, 2011 at 2:22 am #855312Yes makes it easier to find what others and yourself wants . Much more simple . Wonderful .
September 4, 2011 at 2:28 am #855313Actually Jennifer, I think locking the threads and making one big one is A LOT easier to keep track of on top of there no longer being a ton of random threads clogging up other peoples sales. I couldn’t even keep track anymore. >_< I just saw "NEW GRAB BAG" everywhere I looked. That was most def a good call by cherished! I think it will work much better for everyone *nods* Also, just to clarify what I had said earlier. I don't hate the grab bags, I love them really... I just wish it wasn't becoming so cut throat, but I guess that's just what happens with a hot item sometimes but for some reason this particular "batch" left a sour taste in my mouth after hearing how ridiculous some people were getting with soliciting PMs and people creating additional accounts to get around the per customer policy. I find it just very distasteful and just plain disrespectful towards Windstone (particularly Melody and Susie) who worked so hard to paint them all and pack them all up for us... and I just get annoyed. ...and as much as the group photo is fun to look at to get yourself all psyched up about the new batches, eliminating it is probably a good idea in the future. It is really fun seeing them all together though when they all get ready to go into the store and I would like to think we are all mature enough to be able to see it and not loose our minds so I'm really 50/50 I guess on that one. ^_^

If it’s not, and people send you PMs through the forum about this very thing and you were clear that you didn’t want any, this is harassment and is against the rules.
You can warn them that it’s against the rules, or if you want you can let me know and I can warn them. I also understand if you just don’t want to deal with it and you just delete the message.
I’m here to help if you need it, though.

I feel the same way, I LOVE seeing the big batch photos together, because then I can see which ones I have a chance at, but it’s awkward watching the frenzy it seems to cause with people trying to get their dibs in. :/ 50-50 for sure.
September 4, 2011 at 5:09 am #855318Im actually very offended that people keep implying that someone’s spouse “doesnt actually like them and its just to get around the rule blah blah blah” BS. That might be the case with some. It isnt with me. And I keep feeling the sentiment is being directed at me. The rule is 2 per customer and if two roomates can order each for their separate collections, spouses can too.
My boyfriend made his account back in April(and not ‘recently just to buy grab bags’). He has been a minor lurker since then. He likes the idea of grab bags and he DOES collect Windstones . However, it was not until this batch with it’s more ‘fantasy’ colors was he interested in have a couple of his own(like a lot of people, he likes the blue-ish ones). And that’s it really. He’s not likely to get any more babies, though he may want to collect a couple youngs as well. He likes them but he’s not as nuts as me and 99% of you are.
If you doubt it at all, ask Griffinlover. She met me and him for the first time this weekend at the lovely Dragon*con.
I however will collect them every time they are released again(per ‘batch’). I dont see the problem with this. People bawing over 10 or 12 GB baby unis (i dont have that many) in someones collection… Why is this even an issue? LOTS of you have multiples of the same mold in different colors. I havent seen ‘scalping’ as a problem with them either. If I had missed them going in the store, I would have just posted a WTB thread. That’s all there is to be done. Or try to be around when the rest of them are released.
This is the last I will discuss this. It does nothing but make me angry as a collector. If I am buying Windstones, I am helping the business. Thats the point of a business. If I something sells out and I miss it, I wait for it to be restocked and try again. I waited a long time for amethyst OWs and similar things, why are these any different? If it causes this much grief, perhaps the special painted unicorns should go back to being Ebay pieces instead of grab bags. That’s about as ‘fair’ as you get.
September 4, 2011 at 6:38 am #855320I feel kind of bad about this … I bought two of the grab bag babies, but I’m not a huge unicorn collector. I liked a couple and would have kept them if I had gotten them, but since I didn’t, I’ve been working to trade mine for little dragons (or, maybe, a baby I like).
I didn’t realize that this was such a huge issue for folks that had been wanting and hadn’t gotten a grab bag baby. I would have probably just bought one if I had. 🙁
It was a lot of FUN (I love surprises!), but I don’t think I’d ever get more than one at this point.
I wasn’t trying to profit or horde though – I just thought it was fun and if I didn’t get something I liked, I could maybe trade for something I did like. 🙁
I guess at least mine are going back into the population? 🙁
September 4, 2011 at 6:51 am #855322I don’t think the big picture should be removed instead I propose an idea that came to me earlier…
perhaps Melody could make several of each color to make the chances a little more likely that people have a chance to get the one they want…I’m not saying put the batch out the with more in them, just giving us a few more of each color in a batch so people aren’t trying to get that “one” that they know they only have one chance at and it’s not a likely chance at all and or buying more to get that “one”…
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male Griffin -
