August 12, 2011 at 7:11 pm #853383Some loose dogs caused my chickens to panic yesterday and one of the hens broke her beak in her blind panic. I keep money in a savings account solely for pet emergencies but the vet was so expensive that it just about cleaned me out. Simply because someone was irresponsible with their dogs! I hope my poor hen recovers. She is in the house with me (in my lap now).

August 16, 2011 at 4:28 pm #853607At the moment I have to search at different online image agencys for pictures of jails for a book cover I have to do at work. Never imagined how depressing it can be to look at all these… 🙁
I will never ever complain when I have to look for some happy woman pictures!August 19, 2011 at 5:34 pm #853883Melody wrote:My air conditioner in my upstairs office broke!*whine* It’s over 90 degrees in here, so this is it for doing anything on my computer today!I am outa here!
I’m so sorry. 🙁 That must have been heinous.

Do you have air conditioning at home? 😮
Guess what happened to me today? —> The ceiling in my room starting leaking just as Regina (our veterinarian’s assistant) was arriving to clean the turtle tank.
ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! :shout:
Earlier in the week I had a terrible stomach flu. :puke:
Then my cat was ill again! (He’s on a new laxative though and he should be okay) No more dry food for my cats. :nea:Lokie wrote:I have no air conditioning and I haven’t been able to paint for a week because I’m drenched in sweat.
Oh you poor thing!

I was waiting for someone to say that. 😆
Here you go —>Update: The problem with my ceiling has been fixed…for now.
Melody, if the AC upstairs is broke and no computer time here is the cheese to go with it, more painting time for you on dragons and other wonderful things for the rest of us right!

I hear ya, Mum. It’s been 40 degrees at night and 80 degrees during the day here. Just enough to give us all the sniffles.
August 23, 2011 at 12:50 pm #854137So, back in July, I got a job offer to take a position with NYS. It was 30% more than what I was making (I was severely underpaid as a Unix Systems Administrator, working nights, and the safety of the location was becoming more and more questionable). Well, I’ve been working at the new job for almost 4 weeks and it is NOTHING like what they told me the job would entail. It was very misrepresented to me. I was told I’d need to learn Oracle and Javascript (Oracle would be nice to work with in conjunction with Unix, and I already know some SQL databasing). I was even given code to do in my interview. Get to the job. Will I ever need it? Nope. No point in knowing it. Literally, I could just know how to operate a computer and be able to do this job. Scripts? They aren’t programming scripts, they are ‘case scenarios’ or step by step written things to test an application for defects. Seriously? So, I’m being paid a lot more, but I’m literally sitting on my butt doing next to nothing. Can’t move to another position for at least 6 months to a year either. I’ve also got 5-8 years tech experience above everyone else on the team (fairly recent college grads and it’s a new group, and all recent hires). :
So, I am applying to other jobs. I applied to one and they made me a verbal offer. It’s pretty low though (pretty much the same as I’m making now), because they are taking advantage of the amount I made just before going to the State, however, I personally know several others who just got hired to that same position and were hired for a lot more. Now I have to haggle to offered something appropriate (I’m not a haggler and have no experience with it). *feels like pounding head against wall*

August 31, 2011 at 11:28 pm #854841Pet peeve . Sellers who will only take paypal . Not fair to everyone . People who will only trade for impossible things . Ok just me just feeling low and just whining . Yeah I do just hate it . Postage from something to or from Canada ! Is that the way every where ? I use to be able to send books and things to England at about the same price here . What has happened ! ugh .
September 1, 2011 at 3:01 am #854859OH GAWD… when will the smell go away?! That marsh fire has been burning for how many days now?? Blech!! I’m in Baton Rouge and can smell it. I feel for the people who live closer to New Orleans. It’s not a lovely campfire smell. It’s an acrid/putrid burning decay smell. I can only imagine how nauseating it must be closer to the source. *gags*
September 1, 2011 at 8:04 pm #854941I hope Irene stays away from your area too . Huricanes are not fun . This country has been thru enough .

Huh, I’ve had a Seagate back up drive for years now, and it works great. It was also a lifesaver when my 4 year old HP laptop crashed.
To be honest, I would recommend looking into backing everything up onto an external hard drive, then look into getting your computer a larger hard drive. I don’t think I can come close to filling up the one I have now.
