We are trying. Please give us a little time. The only person that can really do this working very hard to fix everything for us. The bugs that are preventing users from using the forum at all are being addressed first…

Poor Clay, we should send him some chocolate or alcohol when this is all fixed. Just name your poison, Clay.

This has to be such a tough time and figuring all of those things out can be a headache and a heartache. *hugs*

As we move farther and farther away from the divorce time-wise, my eyes are being opened wider to what sort of person my ex-husband really is.

If it weren’t for our son, I would not have any contact with him at all as he isn’t worth it.

I’m sorry Peg, it’s hard when we find out that the people we thought we knew best turn out to be complete strangers. Been there, done that. Hugs!!

Yeah for real! There’s this awesome drink…I make it at home sometimes, and I make it as a drink. MOST bars tell me its a shot-Ive had one or two places make it as a drink and darn it if I cant remember which ones!

But its called a “Jellyfish”. If you make it correctly, it looks like there are creamy Jellyfish swimming in your drink.

It tastes like a chocolate covered cherry.

Its Bailey’s, Creme de Cacao, a few drops of Grenedine, Amaretto…I forget what else, but you get the drift. All very yummy stuff!

Wolfen, can you take it to another mechanic to get a second written estimate. :O :davie: Sort of like a second opinion then figure out what is the worse thing and concentrate on getting one thing done at a time…..AC definitely first

Okay if yall dont mind, I need to complain a little today.

So this awesome Trans Am I just bought on March 4th….the AC doesn’t work in it. I knew that when I bought it. The previous owner said “The AC has a leak” Me, being automobilically dumb, I think “Okay, a leak. Sounds small. No prob.”

I knew that for around $10,000, any Trans Am I’d find would have issues. (I say $10,000 becuase I wasn’t going to pay more than that for one-and I got mine for $6800+$512 for tax and title, so all said, $7300) The really nice clean ones go for $15k-$30k (the higher end for an Anniversary Edition or something) and I want a car I’m not going to feel GUILTY about driving because its so nice it belongs in a garage to drive once a week on nice days.

                      *exhale*

So I KNEW…I was EXPECTING *some* problems.

Its March and its in the 80’s here. -_- It hasn’t gotten warm until May the last..OH I DONT KNOW, FIVE YEARS!!! And if you’ve never been to Houston, or don’t live in the South, its not JUST hot, its STICKY. No body likes to be STICKY.

So I call around, and find a place that sounds honest and good (Ha-they’re called Christian Brothers Auto Repair)

They run a diagnostic test, and as a courtesy, basically give your car a free “physical” to see if there’s anything else wrong.

Well, instead of $100 or $200 that I was expecting to fix a leaky AC hose…no. The compressor is leaking, and lots of the hoses and belts need to be replaced, so they say.

OH and the power steering is “dry” or leaking-its slowly dying.

AND the engine (or maybe the transmission?) is leaking oil.

                      *HEAD….DESK*

Oh, but they’re not “gushing leaks” so the auto guy says Ive “got time to get them fixed”

I asked him to write me up an estimate to fix EVERYTHING.

                      AUGH!!!!!

One side of me is angry and upset.

Another side of me says, “Yeah, but you should have gotten the car looked at before you bought it…stupid”

But it was one of the nicer LOOKING cars I looked at, and I was in love with it. So really and truly, I wouldn’t have done anything really different. I would have gotten the car looked at, found out there was $3,000 worth of work to make it perfect, and bought it anyway.

And, like the auto guy said, “Well think of it this way. Its like paying $11,000 or $10,000 for a car that works just fine”

And thats true. This one runs strong, has a good sound-the cosmetics are good, and I dont *think* its ever been dogged and raced-which is hard to find among Trans Ams. Its all stock, which I wanted too. *sigh*

But the good news is that everything is working and just fine-so its not like I can’t still use it and drive it.

Of that $3,000, $1600 was just parts, and a friend of my SO’s said he knows a place where you can get good and inexpensive parts, and a friend of his is a mechanic and could do the labor for less than $96/hr (which is what Christian Broters charges) so I’ll check them/him out. $1600 is better than $3000 anyway. 😛

I feel like I adopted a sweet hearted, cute dog from the SPCA, only to find out he’s got diabetes or heart problems. By the time you’ve gotten the dog home, you love him, you can’t just back out on him…but you cringe at the thought of spending so much money…but on the other hand, you love him, so it will be worth it.

                        Ah, spring.
                        10 more inches of snow.

I’ll probably see something green starting come May.

This robin is a little flustered.

Wolfen – I totally agree with dragoncastle here!! I’m not sure if you brought the car in or not, but unfortunately auto places will be much more likely to attempt to take advantage of a woman. I’m not saying that’s what they did, but I do know it’s happened to me so I know it could happen to anyone!

When I first moved back to New Hampshire from Missouri, the first thing I did was get my car inspected. Well, the local garage (which, by the way, the manager was even my father’s friend) inspected my car, and called me up giving me a laundry list of things that had to be done to make the car drivable – I even specifically asked if these were all totally necessary things to be done to make the car legal to drive in this state, and they said yes.

The total cost at that time was around $1200. The car cost me $4000, so I’m sure you can imagine that I wasn’t very happy with that quote.

Long story short, I got very upset, my dad told me to calm down and bring it to another mechanic – one who we had never been to before but we always heard good things about. Well he inspected it, and guess what he said was wrong with the car?

                          Nothing.

He charged me for the inspection and that was it. My bill reduced by over $1000 because I got a second opinion. I guess it probably goes without saying that I NEVER go to the first car place anymore, but I’m happy to give all of my business to the second mechanic, and he’s never done me wrong.

So yeah, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a second opinion. It’s totally possible that all of the things they listed wrong are actually things that need to get fixed, but it never hurts to see what another mechanic says!

HA! YOU ARE SO RIGHT! And I am *NOT* a woman who LOOKS like she knows what shes talking about when it comes to cars.
I always ask my BF to come with me and pretend its his car, but he writes me off and says that “Any mechanic will tell everybody the same thing” UH no!

Now, in this case, I KNOW there is an oil leak, because the previous owner mentioned it, but as far as *WHAT* is leaking-I have no clue, personally.

I called my mom, all flustered that it would be $1,000 to fix JUST the AC, and apparantly she told my dad-who then called me yesterday saying he googled the cost of AC compressor repair (HA! My dad googling) and he said the average is about $500. Which is still a lot, but its do-able at least.

SO I did call one other shop (and I plan to call more) Galston Auto told me labor is only 1.5 hours, so $145 (already cheaper than Christian Brothers who charg $96/hour for labor.) and then the part. He told me it should be $200 or $300. But then he punched my year, make and model into his computer and even HE was surprised. He said a compressor could run anywhere from $350-$700. SEVEN HUNDRED!?!??! I think I need to find one myself and bring it in to them and let them put it in. Holy cow!

My mom always joked to me…”Your hobbies/collections are getting more expensive. First My Little Ponies, then Grand Champion horses, then Breyer Horses, now Windstones…what next? Cars?!” Dang it Mom! (for being right)

Another note: Why is it so easy to shell out a few hundred for a Windstone, but anything else that costs that much is a killer? 😉

Out my window! He is in my lilac bush tree. The robins all started showing up last week when the snow was temporarily melted, and now that we have so much again they can be seen standing in low-traffic roads… presumably because the blacktop keeps them warmer and they have a slightly better chance of finding bugs there.
