Now we just need Lance to get home from Iraq, he’s my best friend’s oldest, and then we can all do a Snoopy dance.

August 4, 2008 at 2:20 pm #571627Sure thing Star (and anyone else who would like to visit). I’ll be going to visit with my MIL this weekend and then early next week getting up with a realtor so I can see some of the houses that are for sale in the area. We have to get a move on moviing.
It will be interesting to say the least. My husband found out at one of his ACAP (Army Career and Alumni Program) appointments that if he were retiring (he’s not) they would move us anywhere in the US. Since he’s just ETS-ing (getting out at the end of his contract) they move your stuff back to your home of record. That’s his mom’s house so at least it’s in the right state and not too far from where we hope to live. I’m hoping we can talk to the movers and just cover the difference in costs to move us into the new house (presuming we have one at this point). If we don’t have a house just yet, his mom said we could move in with her. That would be very crowded though as my husband’s brother and pregnant fiancee live there as well and the baby is due at the end of September/beginning of October. 😯 Seven people squished in a three bedroom house would not be fun for long.
August 4, 2008 at 11:01 pm #571628Peg, when my husband got out of the navy he was able to get the amount they would have paid to send him to his home of record in cash. Which we then used to move where he would be going to school. See if they will do that for you.
August 5, 2008 at 12:58 pm #571629Doing a DITY (do-it-yourself) move is always a possibility, but not something we really want to do. We already did one of those when we got married and moved to Fort Stewart because we had to get my husband’s stuff from Pensacola, FL, and my stuff from Auburn, AL. We had at least 2 U-Hauls that I remember (and they were fairly large ones). Part of why that won’t be totally feasable is we also have two cars to move as well. We will at least keep it in mind if push comes to shove. We’re just hoping we have a place to live to move the stuff into so we don’t have to store it until we find a place.
The website for the housing says “The Marne Terrace neighborhood is comprised of 490 two and four-bedroom apartment style homes ranging from 948 – 1,533 square feet for E1-E6 residents.” We’ve done actual measurments and we’re in a place with less than 850 sq. ft. and it’s packed to the gills. Some of the furniture we know we don’t have to keep, but most of it will be going with us. It will nice to be able to have room to spread out. Most of the houses we are looking at have between 1,600 and 1,800 sq. ft. We even have one we are looking at that is over 2,000! That would be really nice.
