It sounds like you’re having a great time.
December 9, 2008 at 5:07 pm #744071Sounds like you are having a GREAT time. Did I miss the reason for the trip?? I have been gone a week!!
I remember you talking about coming out here and heading to Disneyland but was not sure if there was another medical/personal reason for heading out this way??December 10, 2008 at 6:50 am #744072😀 😀 😀 I’m so happy you get to do this! Be safe. There are a bunch of wacko drivers out there! 😈 Oh wait, you’re not in California yet! XD

Sun Dragon Koi #3December 11, 2008 at 6:38 pm #744074Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve posted but there was no internet access at a couple of places.
We had a blast at Graceland although I admit I thought it would be more impressive. Many of the rooms just seemed like ordinary rooms anyone could have in their house. He had purple poodle wallpaper in a bathroom! A couple of the rooms were crazy – one room was completely covered in fabric and a couple others had carpet on the walls and ceilings! The grounds were really nice and we saw the planes. The Lisa Marie was really nice.
Then we just drove the next couple of days to get to the Grand Canyon.
Which is so much more spectacular in real life than in pictures. I’d never seen it before – it defies description. We basically just drove along the South rim of the canyon – the altitude and the cold made it really hard for me to breath. I wanted to take the mule ride down but it is 7 and 1/2 hours so it was beyond me physically. But we still had a great time – it had snowed a couple of inches the night before. My friend Sue got a kick out of the snow – she grew up in NY but has been living in Hawaii for several years so it’s been awhile since she saw snow. And the canyon was really gorgeous with snow on the rim. If anyone has thought about going to the Grand Canyon I highly recommend it.
We are in Las Vegas right now. Neither of us likes to gamble which is good because neither of us can really go onto the floor of the casinos. Sue is allergic to cigarette smoke and the smoke really hurts my lungs. We are here to see a couple of Cirque du Soleil shows. We went to one last night – Mysterie – which was great. It’s amazing what those people can do! We are just going to explore Vegas today. It’s nice to have a day when we aren’t driving!
And then tomorrow we head to LA. A friend managed to get me two tickets to see the Tonight Show taped! I’ve always wanted to go to a taping! I’m so excited!
December 11, 2008 at 7:17 pm #744075Thanks for the update 🙂

December 11, 2008 at 8:01 pm #744077That is awesome! I too will visit the Grand Canyon one day. Although I’m trying to get to Portland next year to visit a friend of mine. I’ve never been there it should be interesting.

My mom and I are doing Yellowstone/Grand Tetons next year, but we do want to get to the Grand Canyon sometime. And moreso after reading your experience, thanks! 🙂
Have a wonderful rest of your stay in Vegas!

We did that once, when my parents were over for a visit. We went to Padre Island (South Texas) for a few days, then drove over to the Grand Canyon. It took us a day and a half of almost continual driving, taking it in turns.
The problem was that when I wasn’t driving, I wasn’t able to get much sleep, so when we finally arrived late evening of the second day I was pretty exhausted, irritable and stupid.
So in one of those moments I wish I could retract and do over, when Linda took me to the edge of the Canyon and with great pride waved at the expansive view and asked me what I thought of this national treasure of my newly adopted country, my insensitive reply was: “It’s just a big hole in the ground”.
The following day, with better vision and a much improved temperament, I was able to give the right answer and mean it. The Grand Canyon is pretty awesome. Particularly considering that it’s just a great big hole in the ground.
December 12, 2008 at 1:07 am #744080I’d love to see the Cirque du Soleil/Criss Angel show “Believe”. I bet “Mystère” was a lot of fun.
December 12, 2008 at 3:21 am #744081Oh wow! I’d love to see the Grand Canyon at some point. An emphatic YES to seeing the Vegas Cirque shows as well! I love Cirque! 🙂
Ooooh, I’ll have to keep my eyes open for the Tonight Show! You’ll have to tell us where you are sitting and who to look for (and waive to all us Windstoners)!!!! 😀
December 14, 2008 at 4:41 pm #744082The Tonight Show was great! I was in the second row by the band so I had a great view. Jay Leno is really mellow and personable – he seems like a regular guy. He didn’t seem to like being made up. And Betty White was on in the first segment – I love her! She got a standing ovation. The only bad thing was my friend, Sue, was back at the hotel with food poisoning. It’ll be awhile before she orders shrimp alfredo or goes to the Rainforest Cafe.
And for the best news – I MET WYLAND! We got to Santa Monica and went to the dinner. He walked into the room and came right over to me! I got to chat with him for a couple of minutes. And then he came back later to take a picture. Sue has the picture on her camera – and we lost the connector to the computer on the trip. But once she gets home she should be able to send me the picture so I can post it. I also met and got a picture with Jane Seymour.
It was one of the best nights of my life. Thanks again to everyone who helped make it possible! You guys are the best!
December 14, 2008 at 4:47 pm #744083Oh wow! Congrats on getting to meet the celebrities. Can’t wait to see pictures.
December 14, 2008 at 5:13 pm #744084I’m so happy for you DDVM that it worked out and you are welcome! It was a pleasure to help out. 😀
