Pretty pearl dragon and your griff looks great. Nice colors. Did you antique that one? Antiquing looks really well on the griffins.

Yes, I did a very messy antiquing job. Parts of it didn’t get antiqued, parts got way too much…it was a large scale experiment, but I still love him. 🙂
March 16, 2008 at 4:15 pm #679537You have a bald eagle look on that griffin! And yes, it takes a while to get a hand at antiquing. I went with dry-brushing at first.
You did a grand job!

April 13, 2008 at 3:17 pm #679539Well, my husband finally got tired of me asking him when he was going to paint his dragon, and he said I could paint it as long as I got him a replacement. So I spent all day yesterday – about 10 hours – working on this little guy. I put down a black base coat, and because I’m terrible at antiquing, I tried to paint every scale individually.
For the wings I used a piece of wire that I dipped in paint and dotted. I also used the wire for many of the other fine details, like the smaller swirls.
I chose colors that I loved, and ones that stood out to me against a black background. I went through after and drew in lines between scales so there would be that black contrast, but painting on the sealer made the black streak. I like the effect, but next time I think I’ll use a spray sealer. 😀
The sun washed out his colors a little bit – the white you see is actually metallic silver, and the dots on his arms and hands are a light blue.
So here he is! I’m not quite sure what to call him, so any suggestions would be welcome!
April 13, 2008 at 3:59 pm #679540I may be wrong, but I think this is the first time I see a dragon with asymetrical colors on the belly and chest scales!
He’s very original. The first word that came to mind when I saw him: Bigarré!
I really like the horns 😀

Thanks! 😀 That’s what my husband said, actually.
I decided to call him Medicine Dragon, for that reason.
