Congrats, Riversgrace!! She’s gorgeous!! “Beauty” is the perfect name for that kitty. I love seeing pictures of what eBay pieces look like in their forever homes, too! 🙂
August 4, 2011 at 11:10 pm #852855Look who’s here!!!
and here he is with his new family
Now… as much as I love him (and I don’t mean to sound like I’m not happy I won him) I’m a little annoyed I dropped almost a grand on this guy and his finish work came like this…
I’m debating on whether or not I want to redo it >_< The gold is all flaky and streaky… the claws are just the most noticeable area, but all the gold is like this. *sigh*

If he ever needs a home…. 😉

I know you probably don’t want to return him, but even if you don’t want to please at least let Susie and Melody know about this so that they are aware of the problem.

I will Jen. Thank you. You’re right, I don’t want to return him. It seems like the quality control has gone down since Windstone moved from CA, but maybe that’s just me.

August 5, 2011 at 5:53 am #852897If it was something small maybe, but I’d hate to ship around an Old Warrior. I ended up redoing the gold myself. He looks a hundred times better now!!! It just irks me a little, when you pay so much for something, you would think they might inspect them better you know? I guess standards may have dropped, or maybe I’m just too anal. ^_^

From Windstone 2011 From Windstone 2011 From Windstone 2011 From Windstone 2011 From Windstone 2011 From Windstone 2011 From Windstone 2011 August 5, 2011 at 5:54 pm #852916August 7, 2011 at 7:10 pm #853010EEEEE!! I finally managed to snag a Baby Triceratops for my sister!
I’ve been trying to get her into Windstones (or at least make her understand why I love them), but the only ones she really loves are the dinosaurs.
So over the years I’ve been building up her dino collection for her, one birthday or Christmas at a time.
The only one left to find for her now is a T-Rex. Hurrah!
August 8, 2011 at 7:09 pm #853044Now that everyone’s bringing it up, I went and checked my gothic unicorn too. He has white specks and areas along his back, under his tail, and along the underside of his hind legs that look like the were over-sprayed with black instead of being painted black (the white shows through making the areas look brownish). I’m kind of torn about what to do. Black is a fairly easy color to fix and I have the ability to fix it, but I’ll be re-painting sections of him black, and I’m kind of afraid that will significantly ruin its value…
I guess I’m rather spoiled though. I have many excellently painted pieces that this just kind of glares at me. I just need to think about it some more.
Send him back! I’ll fix or replace him. I do intentionally shade the black in some areas because I don’t like stark black against stark white.
However that doesn’t excuse white specks. I think I know what may of caused the white spots, but I won’t be sure until we get one of these returned.
I have been noticing small clumps of loose gypsum that is somehow getting onto these pieces and is invisible against the white casting. We rinse everything off before painting, but that doesn’t always remove the clumps. When the piece is painted, it looks fine, but rubbing in the bag during shipping might dislodge these tiny clumps revealing white specs.August 8, 2011 at 7:12 pm #853045One line of gold was the standard way we painted these, though the style varied over the years. We thought it looked cleaner than when we tried to paint the whole horn.
August 8, 2011 at 7:15 pm #853046Other than streaky gold finishes the one pet peeve I have is that my BG Fledgie’s belly wasn’t painted entirely. The lower third of his belly was left black. I’ve seen one in a store here that has his whole belly painted but I ordered mine from the Windstone store when they were in short supply so I never saw him before I received him.
Yes, that was one batch that went out with half the belly painted! I forget when that happened , but it might of been right after the move when we were training a new painting crew. If you would like to send him back, I can fix him. ( I’ll sign him too, as a repaired “blackbelly” )
August 8, 2011 at 7:19 pm #853047ANYBODY who has an issue, just let me know. I’ll do something to make you happy, or at least happier.

Yes, the majority of these problems are because I am a slob. I have never denied it! -
