The tip of the tail looks just like the Male’s tail.
November 10, 2008 at 3:15 am #708529I love the colors on that purple one 😛
November 10, 2008 at 8:04 pm #708530The scales appear to be done in the same fashion as what Melody does with hers, and what they do with the details on them (ie those little gold dots on the top of the dorsal scales).
But otherwise……. I don’t like it. The eyes scare me.
November 10, 2008 at 11:03 pm #708531pipsxlch, I would say this is definitely a problem piece. Not only the coloration, but the sculpture itself and they other details. It’d be great if you could contact John about this! john@windstoneeditions.com

Not sure about the sculpt (looks like a poorly interpreted cross between a mother dragon and an old warrior to me), but the 2 available paint jobs definitely are knockoffs. I picked up the peacock one, and the box shows the ruby one, which on the actual thing looks more ruby than in my bad pic. I thought maybe John would like to have the sculpt sent to him? The only possible company name on it is “Rainbow”, and it is a cheaply made hollow plastic thing (the eyes are plastic eyeball-beads)
Don’t know if it helps but “Rainbow” is a company based out of Dallas, TX & all the items come from China. I’ve seen these before in their main store in Dallas but they didn’t have them the next time I looked.
November 14, 2008 at 1:08 am #708533Okay, I’ve contacted John, and he was aware of the sculpt and had been trying to get one. Looks like this guy is going to Oregon (just though of something; wonder if I should try to get a ruby one for him also?).
Enchantments, looks like you’re a much better resource than me! The vendor didn’t want to discuss sources.November 17, 2008 at 4:05 am #708534pipsxlch wrote:I found something at a local flea market today. I don’t see it… other than so it’s a dragon? How does that look remotely like a windstone? People can make laying, sitting, purple, red, pink dragons, etc… I don’t see the resemblance

The scale patterning, design and placement on much of the dragon is a copy of Melody’s work. The placement of the gold details, the tail spade and placement, and airbrush work.. all of the elements combined make it where it might be legally ‘too close’ to a Windstone. Windstone owns what is called a Trade Dress, meaning (in very basic terms) that they not only can protect against exact duplicates being made, but they can also protect against others making pieces in the same style as Windstones are made in.
I hope that helps a bit! 🙂

My art: featherdust.comDecember 9, 2008 at 10:40 pm #708536What? WHAT!
I’m not sure what they are trying to say here. 😕 Sounds like it’s a reproduction but looks like Windstone.:shrug:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270315129062&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123
December 9, 2008 at 11:05 pm #708537Those are just whites. White Lap and white…. um… in the two seconds it took me to write this I forgot what the other one was. I don’t know why they say reproductions.
OH! The tags! The Windstone tags say that they are “Museum quality reproductions” of Melody’s work. Maybe that’s it?
December 9, 2008 at 11:06 pm #708538That could be it. I thought they looked real but the description is very confusing! 😉
December 9, 2008 at 11:07 pm #708539They look real…and they have the right coloured eyes…I’m confused… 😕
December 10, 2008 at 12:13 am #708540Well, technically, Melody’s work is the original sculpture. These are the reproduction casts made from her original sculpture. They are legitimate Windstone pieces. The seller is being very technical.
December 11, 2008 at 1:58 am #708541This one looks a little familar to me for some reason. Was there a cat gargoyle that looked like this 😕 ? It kinda is done in the same style as Melody’s critters.

That looks like a hideous knock off of the Winged Cat Gargoyle. Astral Castle has a picture since I can’t find it here.
