I heard back from John and he thinks it’s fine. 🙂
February 9, 2012 at 12:08 am #872972I’ve reported an Etsy garden artist sculptor who is claiming the ‘Mother Dragon’ mold/design is her own work to John. She has tons of other copyright infringement statues that she is claiming as her own work (David the Gnome for instance) but she definitely is copying Windstone.
If anyone was interested in looking at it, here it is. http://www.etsy.com/transaction/51677613

Same seller also has something that looks like a potential rip off of the young unicorn statue. It’s much smaller though.

Oh boy is that ever a rip off and she sold it .
February 9, 2012 at 1:08 am #872976…And another one, maybe? I am not familiar enough with the mermaid statues… http://www.etsy.com/listing/48609689/concrete-mermaid-garden-statues-mermaid
February 9, 2012 at 1:09 am #872979Thanks for pointing that out, I didn’t look at her other inventory because I already knew she infringes on other copyrights, but she has some nerve!
February 9, 2012 at 1:14 am #872982Yep, that’s a rip off of Melody’s mermaid. Thankfully I gave the store to John as well as the individual dragon link so he should be able to pick up on the other fakes.
February 9, 2012 at 1:23 am #872983There are some other things too that seemed way similar but not direct copies. The style of her abstract goddesses looks like Maya Hill’s statues, she has a meerkat baby statue…how many artists decide to make one of those, her winged wolf/shepherd dog is a similar pose to the wolf PYO, the mermaid is not the exact pose but similar, the pose of her iguana on a rock looks a lot like the small rock dragon. Perhaps it’s unintentional because she’s been influenced by Windstones, but I think the mother dragon was the start of the rip off escapades, and she’s changed things around a bit to keep from being called out as an utter thieving slag.
February 9, 2012 at 1:40 am #872987Are we suppose to report something like this? It’s listed as “most likely a windstones reproduction.”
February 9, 2012 at 2:35 am #872991This “Ossi” sculpt looks like a peacock curled/coiled dragon hybrid.

That really looks like a blatant rip-off to me. I think you should report it.
February 9, 2012 at 10:29 pm #873103Reported on ebay and sent John an e-mail.
February 22, 2012 at 4:30 pm #874241So my thing on this isn’t that it’s a knock off or anything, it looks legit enough, but should someone maybe inform this person that they’re overpricing this by a LOT and that it isn’t a retired piece? Given the shop currently has 5 of them in stock for $40, ‘n their buy it now price is $180.
I would hate for someone to just assume they’re right and pay that…I posted here ’cause it seemed the most appropriate place without starting a new thread (Which isn’t needed, I don’t think)
February 22, 2012 at 5:16 pm #874249I agree that this is certainly false advertising….this is NOT a retired piece that I can tell and it is misleading/misrepresenting to any buyer of this item.
As for the price they are asking….I am just putting in my 2cents in but ya can ask whatever you want for your own item and if you get it then great for U. Do I think that it is ethical ???? NOPE but it is buyer beware and do a little research on the item you are purchasing.
Not trying to ruffle any feathers with my opinion so to speak but we as a general public cannot control what someone values their own item at.
However misleading buyers that an item is retired and therfore implying it is much more valuable and rare is wrong in my opinion.
I’ll shut up now!! 🙂
Feel free to disagree with my opinion….I’ll take no offence at all.

My only qualm is that they’re greatly misleading people by saying it’s rare and then slapping a massive price tag on it while the shop directly has it for a much lower price… If people have a genuine rare piece, and are being honest about it and can fetch a high price, I feel more power to them… in that case it isn’t a place for my opinion..
I just feel this is a case that the seller should also do their homework about what they’re selling.. a quick look at the webpage here would quickly and accurately tell them how much the piece is valued and that it is in fact not retired..
